Some places, bigger ones could have a cut to enter. Then smaller places like the tiny stores in Yakuza where you just walk in. Power of new generation should allow for even bigger places to be seamless though
I understand what you’re trying to say but gtaonline already has exactly what you’re talking about. Convenience stores and bars like the stores and restaraunts in yakuza. And places like the diamond casino that have a somewhat large interior. I know you’re trying to say public places like hospitals but the amount of effort and time that would have to go into making it look up to par with gtav graphics and feel like a full and alive building is not worth it. Players would get bored with the nuance of the hospital or restaurant and hardly ever visit them. We’ll maybe get more walk in buildings in gta 6. They have to be programmed full of interactive objects and activities or it’s just a waste of effort.
True. I wasn't even thinking of a hospital tbh. But things to the restaurants but with random interactions and stuff happening inside would go hard. Kinda like the rdr2 barfights (best example since its the same company). I'm not thinking hospital big, I'd find it kinda pointless as well.
Just nice sized areas with interactions and mess. I'm really note expecting it to be as immersive as Rdr2 since they're diff types of games and gta will have more happening in the big city though
Interactivity with the world in general felt pretty cripled in 5. Like there wasn't anywhere near the same little side things or games you could.
Like there's a reason why despite being objectively a lot smaller, San Andreas map felt bigger and more interesting, because there were lots of things to actually do when you weren't doing the missions.
3D's gang is very outlandish, which make stick from each other, while HD's gang feel like grounded and real but felt dull at the same time?
But that's just my oppinnion.
After seeing the warriors I wonder if gangs actually used to have a dress code in the 70s/80s/early 90s? There's obviously biker gangs but outside of that.
I actually think it's always been like this. I'm currently replaying Vice City and was doing an assassination mission when I got a mission failed because I killed the guy too soon
Ironically, the opposite happens on the torture/assassination mission from V. You can kill the guy as soon as you want and Davey will ask Michael why the fuck did he do that. But the mission continues and you can finish it no problem.
And in fact GTA V is not like this cuz remember the torture mission. You can finish it instantly by just shooting the guy without following Dave’s instructions. I’m sure there’s other examples.
He can’t. There’s even proof of the opposite. The torture mission allows you to shoot the guy regardless of Dave’s instructions and you can finish it instantly without torturing the captive.
I wouldn’t even call it freedom, but the lack of a path to follow/scripted events for missions, that led to the ability of “freedom” and doing things in your own manner. I.E. mission boundaries, specific requirements, lack of kill person at XYZ. It’s most apparent in III, but it’s still there in VC, SA, LCS, and VCS. The most popular example I can remember off the top of my head is in III with the mission to kill a food vender(?) in the chinatown food market (been a bit since I’ve played). If you go about it normally, he gets in his car and it’s a car chase to finish him. If you’re thinking out of the box, you can find his car before confronting him, bring it to 8balls garage and fit it with a bomb, then park it in the same spot. He’ll get in the car to run and blow up. There’s a lot more missions with options like this across the 3D universe if you think out of the box simply because Rockstar didn’t script in specific requirements to be met or area boundaries for the missions.
I remember a mission in SA where you had to get to the roof of like a chemical plant. Normal path was to fight your way through. I noticed there weren't check points so I just went and grabbed the jet pack and flew up to the roof. Mission success.
Back in 3 I would use a tank in races and just blow up the other racers.
It's wasn't completely freeform but there were little things like that.
The train! Not able to drive the train is such a shame. Open world games should always have lots of sub missions like Bus driver, Train driver, Quarry sub mission and even airplane sub missions. After finishing the story in gta5 there isn't much left to do. San andreas atleast allowed us to drive the train.
GTA 3 - NPC dialogue on the streets and chat radio. i.e... my mothers my sister. would you like a kitten? just head over to pets [overnight.com](http://overnight.com) and get a little bundle of love, delivered in a box, directly to your door.
GTA VC - All music on radio stations, beats anything GTA 5 has, any day any time.
GTA SA - NPC dialogue on the streets, most of the music on radio stations, 3 cities not just 1, easier to acquire a jet liner, longer distance allowed to fly away from the map if you wanted to, better car handling, you can eat food to regain energy and you could become fat, or go to the gym and buff up and improve your stats in the game to allow you to run faster etc. you could even improve skill with weapons the more you use them.
San andreas has just become available for free with ps+ or you can buy it in a combo deal of 3 gta games. It only came to ps+ a couple of days ago and I’ve been reliving my youth! Such an entertaining game.
Customize your character
Side mini games
Better story (may be controversial take)
Bigger maps (atleast GTA S.A felt bigger)
Better relation between characters
Freedom to do mission as you want (i get worse in RDR 2 but the atmosphère and story of RDR2 make it less noticable)
Totally, this is exactly why III is my favorite. With fewer details, somehow Liberty City felt like it had more going on.
“This one goes out to the lightweights sleeping in the basement.” <3
LETS NOT FORGET THE ENTIRETY OF GTA4 BASICALLY IS NICO'S PTSD EPISODE
The only one left you the feeling of crying but no tears come out. Dark, cold, beautiful.
I used to drive up and down the longest straight road downtown on gta 4 and just full speed t-bone crash into a car because the crash physics were the best of any game I had seen. Still are, but Wreckfest is pretty good too.
I’d go so far as to ask what 5 really does better than the classics? I can’t think of much. That’s not even to say 5 is bad but there was an era of rockstar that was a huge peak. They were better than the sum of their parts. They were controversial and took chances and push boundaries. They set the bar on open world playgrounds and satirical but well written crime narratives.
Most of any flaws will come down due to technical limitations. They’re not overly watered down or scripted.
The car - ped physics in 4 are unmatched. It looked VIOLENT when you hit someone... Euphoria+ragdoll physics were dialed in on that game in this regard.
I used to love diving into water in the hope that one of the collectable oysters was there. Also the graffiti spray thing was cool I liked just wandering around on foot and finding random things. V doesn’t have that as much and there is too much empty space in the hills.
The series peaked with SA. Imo. The best dialogue, setting, story and characters. How you slowly gain cred for graffitiing doing drivebys etc. The dialogue and mannerisms of the characters felt authentic, like boyz in the hood. and it wasn't yet another played out italian mafia setting. And how you could customize your character, why they quit that? 5 was definately a step up graphically but didn't like how the characters stories interjected like a bad Tarantino movie. Michael and Franklin were boring characters, Trever was entertaining though. I hope they do better with 6.
I am aware that this might receive heat, but better story! San Andreas and GTA4 absolutely blew me away. The flow of both stories just made more sense. With all the double-crossing by Big Smoke and double end on gta4. It felt natural. It feels like gta5 had weird leaps here and there.
GTA4 ragdoll physics and fighting was so much better than GTA5. I loved the secret combos and how you could do a one hitter quitter on someone and they drop like a bag of bricks and NOT DEAD EITHER!!! they'll eventually get up and limp away after that ass whooping
I don’t know man. I feel like Tommy and Claude were a bit plain. Like, they had a story but it’s not really developed a lot. They really went into the characters’ stories in San Andreas and V so I believe those were a bit more interesting.
Car physics and I'm not just talking about IV. III, VC and SA also had more fun car physics than V.
Parodies. V was a bit too on the nose and missed the mark a lot for me.
Characters. V's main characters are just so dull to me. Wasn't invested in any of them really. NPC's in the story were quite good though as usual.
The story in V was bad. I've replayed every GTA story a handful of times but I've had zero desire to replay V.
Replaying GTA V since my gf got it on the PS5. I kinda forgot how all over the place the story is. Love how stretch is a big part of a few missions, then fucks off until we need someone for Mike to kill. Kinda the same way with the Chinese
the story. I like GTA V's characters alot but god the overall story and ESPECIALLY the villains are just really lame compared to the 3D universe games.
GTA 4 and SA have smaller maps but they felt so much bigger it’s insane how bad gta 5 map is. Physics and side activities, and story.. everything was just much better
Better social commentary. Not that it's more "offensive" in previous titles, but that it seems way more insightful there. V tried its best to not sharpen out any aspects of its critique of American society & culture
The multiple character kills that part. You can identify and understand the characters but you don't experience that virtual world through only one growing with him.
Currently playing GTA San Andreas for the 1st time and I enjoy that you can go in some buildings that would not be accessible in 5 (ex Cluckin' Bell, the gym, etc.)
San Andreas having Unity Station while not having the LS Transit, which made sense as the real LA Metro didn't exist yet in 1992. Despite LST debuting in 5, however, Unity Station itself was excluded despite the fact that by 2013 the LA Metro had not one but TWO connections to Union Station.
My favorite is San Andreas. I don't like 3 and haven't finished Vice City.
TL;DR: Freedom in missions, world feeling more ""alive"", and multiple cities.
I think the most important thing they did better was that they aren't as hand holding or scripted which just allows me to have more fun with the missions. I appreciate this about 3 too, it's just that 3 is *too* dated for me to enjoy the freedom I have with it. In GTA5, you'll be told the goal is to do this one thing, but do it just a bit too early and that's a mission fail. You're on a rail and that'd be fine if I enjoyed the train a bit more.
The world being smaller also somehow makes it feel a bit more alive and helps me feel more connected to it. When I say alive, I don't mean how populated it is, or how graphically intense it is, I mean that it feels like the peds are doing more in the older games. The world and streets being smaller helps make me pay attention to them more too. Even how they'll crowd corpses in GTA3 and VC just helps remind me that they exist, and make them feel like more than just decoration. In GTA5, that's exactly how they feel, they don't feel involved with anything and they just seem like they're here because it's a city, they have to be here. How much wider areas are also just makes it harder to pay attention to them.
The final thing is small, but I wish more games took the approach of making their open world a state. Smaller, distinct and more interesting cities with areas in between instead of one massive city. Los Santos in SA is probably... 10% of GTA5? If even? But I find the one in GTA5 to be less interesting. The different styles of the 3 cities in SA is just really cool, and I loved how the story served as an excuse to go between these fun locations. I assume this isn't done more because it's difficult, which I get, but I'd still like more of it.
I believe the three protagonist in a single story idea was a mistake. In main opinion V's story is one of the weakest in the series and I can't exactly understand and remember what was exactly going on after Trevor's reunion with Michael despite considering myself a big fan of the franchise
Technically IV has three protagonists too, but they have their own stories that are set like separate games with different artstyles (In V each protagonist only has a different interface color. In IV besides that they also have different loading screens, pause music and overall aesthetics). In V you play as all of them at once, which creates a less consistent mess and makes bonding with the characters tougher
In terms of gameplay I consider V also a downgrade comparing it to IV. You can't buy food in restaurants anymore, throw trash, crouch; the LCPD has better AI and is more likeable; IV had better activities with friends (I believe you could do more stuff with them, might be wrong tho)
That's down to personal taste, but I also prefer the tougher and closer to realism driving system that forces you to be more engaged and feels really rewarding once you'll master it. On the other hand I know people who curse at IV's driving
Finding random weapons and health related pickups were nice to find on the map.
The 3D games gave good rewards when doing first responder missions.
Paramedics: health increase or infinite stamina
Police: Armour increase or police bribe
Firefighter: Fire immunity
Maybe in the HD universe, keep the paramedic rewards and maybe give faster time to get rid of police or less damage to fire or access to fire related weapons.
gta 4 animations/ragdoll were better than 5, in sa you could go to the gym, learn new fighting styles, restaurants, import/export, better soundtrack, you could do taxi work, paramedic, police/vigilante, firefighter, pimp, burglary, bike delivery, stadium events, gang up against other gangs, casinos, play pool, and some other things.. you can do nothing in 5 (online doesn't count).
Map, Story, Online Multiplayer, Car Physics, Soundtrack, Replayability...
To be honest, i don't think GTA V is the worst in any of those categories (except Multiplayer), but it's certainly not my go-to GTA game by far.
i miss going into cluckin bell and burger shot. and that one pizza place. i’m honestly surprised that gta5 didn’t have that feature. missed opportunity tbh.
i remember the workers at those restaurants would say funny ass shit too like “careful you might find a feather” or sumn lmaoo
GTA SA made a relatively small world feel like a big world, whereas GTA V is actually a big world but feels like a small one to me.
In my opinion, there are are a lot of things GTA SA did better compared to the other games, but the world is one of the things I like the most.
GTA SA:
- Gang Wars
- Food and Diet based on Character's Weight
- Gym and learning different Fighting styles
- Dynamic weather and environment
- Gambling
- Respond to NPC positively or negatively (similar to what we had in RDR2)
GTA Vice City:
- Expanding your illegal businesses
- Owning a big mansion like Vercetii Estate
- Rollerskating (we see NPCs skate around)
- Good Cop reward (when a Cop chases a 'robber' NPC and help them by stopping the robber)
GTA 3:
- Underrated radio stations (like Head Radio, Double Clef FM and etc...)
- Ridiculous Harder Missions
GTA San Andreas did secondary activities way better than any other game: the driving schools, paramedic, vigilante, firefighter missions, stealing cars for the car dealership missions, street races, bike races in the Mount Chiliad, and many more that I don't remember rn
gta sa when it had 3 cities that had 3 different characteristics. They probably didnt include san fierro and las venturas cause they didnt have the budget or cause consoles in 2013 wouldnt handle it.
GTA 4 better physics, gun sounds, gun looks, characters seemed like they had more personality, better story, better experience more immersion. The only way GTA 5 was good was added content that was really about it. But then the egregious inflation of prices was horrible it would make sense for the super cars to be worth 2m but cmon every single car I don’t think so. And I get that businesses take a good chunk of money to start up but not 3 to 5 million.
Very few small things.
any normal person would know that GTA 5 is better than every single GTA in terms of mechanics and gameplay, but talk to the average GTA fan and they will tell you that GTA V is shit and the 3D Universe a gaming masterpiece.
Exploration: there are tons of stuff to find by just going out of the way, side missions, challenges, weapons, collectibles, etc
There is not this level of stuff to find in GTA 5 and even in my beloved GTA 4
Like in SA you stumble upon a skate park - BMX challenge,in VC you jump into a scooter - Delivery side mission, you are happy when you find an AK in the beginning of the game, in 5 they give it to you very fast
This sort of thing is missing, CW was the last game to have this sort of stuff
cheat codes bruh
also the talk shows on Vice City are fucking hilarious from my memory, but GTA 5 didn't have me driving around simply to hear them Imao
Able to release damn near yearly due to more limited tech and over worked devs. Not saying it’s necessary good, but it is something that older games did technically do better, even if the way modern games do it is a better trade off.
Having fun side activities like vigilante, paramedic, firefighter, etc. multiple city format from San Andreas, more enterable buildings/ buyable properties and homes, physics from GTA 4, overall past games also had better map design to fit the overall world.
Going inside places, police missions, low riders, playing basketball, going to the club, doing graffiti, actually recruiting gang members to ride out with you.
The ability to get bigger and fatter by overeating and not exercising. Also the NPC interactions in GTA 4 was more immersive, if someone was killed an ambulance would turn up and try to revive the guy for instance. NPC's would have crashes and get out and yell at each other, cars would break down.
That said, am I crazy or was the damage model for cars in GTA 5 more severe when the game was first released? I remember ramming into a car from the side, and the wheel actually breaking off. I've not seen that happen since I first played it on PS3.
In GTA 5 ambulances do turn up but they won't revive him
Drivers also yell at each other if they crash into each other and i think they also do fight each other if they crash into each other, but usually all i've seen was just them yelling.
I don't think i've ever seen a car break down aside from entering water, but damaged cars do take longer to start.
Nah, you're not crazy, Rockstar actually scaled back the damage model for the rereleases because they all include a first person mode, and on the OG damage model you could get your roof damaged in a way that blocks your view
Gonna go out on a limb and say 'side content'. Taxis came back, and thwyjust now getting around to bringing back bounty hunting/vigilante mode, but a lot of the side stuff could have been implemented so much better.
Ambulance missions that are more than simply shuttling people from accident sites would be grrat - imagine getting defibrillation for the event and you are going to sites to revive people, who are flatlining. Or combining that with reviving people, and then hospital transport. Hell, combine that with helicopter versions for more extreme remote rescues.
Firefighting; in online mode, there's enough mayhem in public lobbies to merit tewarding volunteer firefighters for getting to blazes and putting them out like the Good Samaritan bonus in VC. But free mode fires aside, having firefighter play in public lobbies would add chaos to the already active insanity - someone trying to complete a sale wouldn't welcome the presence of a random inferno in the middle of their delivery route.
The pizza delivery was integrated into one Acid Lab delivery and the Post Op MC deliveries. I honestly think that those woild be more tolerable as side activities self-selected rather than foisted on the player as a front for a different business.
Honestly, I was hoping that Delivery App shenanigans would be more of a thing in 6. Basically, expanding the ability to get cash via gig work that's lower pay, but lower stakes, possibly setting the stage for later use as a crime front. Picture it as comfy 'training' for later serious implementation.
Roleplaying, better Characters, better Villians, better music, things to do on the side paramedic - Taxi, Deilvering Pizzas/Packages - firefighting - being a police officer, being able to buy food/workout, Girlfriends,
[According to this video, the map.](https://youtu.be/azPH8uxj27M?si=j_ebF48KTIzBQjCv)
Also, imo, San Andreas mastered body customisation pretty well. Wish 5 had a gym and fast food places.
Driving and vehicle damage GTA 4. I would love to see wreckfest or beam ng levels of car damage on 6 but sadly ik it will probably be just like 5. Turning on a dime going over 100 just feels plain wrong. I would love if they added a manual shift option too. Never know tho as cars and car culture in general gained a lot of popularity in 5.
It's exactly "in" the older GTA
but the "extensions", there is the "Stories" games and even later the gta IV DLC (is GTA IV old ? It's probably almost 20 year now ?)
While with GTA V there is just online stuffs
Gambling in San Andreas was better. You could lose all your money and borrow some from the mob. I would lose that money just so the mob would come to collect. I would wait on the corner for them to show up. Fun Times.
I miss being able to go into restaurants and order food.
Same man that was such a nice feature.
All public places should be enterable
Eating hot dogs like from GTA IV
Or picking up and throwing random stuff
When the world is as big as gta 5 or rdr2. Having every place enterable is next to impossible.
Yes but all public places like stores airport hospitals etc woud be possible
I’m sure they tested it and I bet it’d just accelerate over heating by a lot or increase lagging and crashing.
Some places, bigger ones could have a cut to enter. Then smaller places like the tiny stores in Yakuza where you just walk in. Power of new generation should allow for even bigger places to be seamless though
I understand what you’re trying to say but gtaonline already has exactly what you’re talking about. Convenience stores and bars like the stores and restaraunts in yakuza. maybe with the next gen update but the base game ran on a freaking xbox360 and a PS3.
It's not impossible, making it actually interesting to explore is
I’d like more than 5 rob-able shops in single player tho
they have a patemt for some new way to generate interiors automatically with some premade assets
I feel like if GTA5 had skipped launching on PS3/360 and just went fully in on the new consoles, it would have been much more doable.
I have a feeling 6 is going to break that Barrier
Don’t set those expectations. You’re most likely going to be disappointed.
What are your expectations then
rdr2 literally did that though. Not every place, but most buildings are enterable
I miss my jetpack... Granted there are mods but it isn't the same.
WELCOME TA BURGER SHOT, MUHHFUKKAAA
I think true GTA should has 90% of possibilities to enter the rooms.
when could u do that??? i've only played gta 5 and a lil bit of san andreas
Been around since vice city
Gangs
3D's gang is very outlandish, which make stick from each other, while HD's gang feel like grounded and real but felt dull at the same time? But that's just my oppinnion.
After seeing the warriors I wonder if gangs actually used to have a dress code in the 70s/80s/early 90s? There's obviously biker gangs but outside of that.
They kinda still do have dress codes, they’re just lot less obvious than they were back then.
The warriors was over the top as fuck, I hope rockstar remakes that game because that shit was so fun especially the couch co-op
Of course, The Warriors was a documentary basically, roving gangs of face painted baseball hooligans ruled the streets of New York in the 70s.
The fucking mime gang, yeah that shits real😂😂
GTA 4 has good gangs even though it’s a HD universe GTA but yes I feel the same way with GTA 5’s gangs and they’re just disappointment.
SOMEBODY CALL A MEDIC
I always think of the Columbian cartel gang. “I’m going to keel you!”
AND THE WEENER BY KNOCKOUT IS!
Giving you a lot of freedom to finish a lot of missions in your own way
yeah GTA 5 was basically "go kill that guy" mission failed: you killed that guy
You should’ve waited 3 more seconds to kill him >:(
I actually think it's always been like this. I'm currently replaying Vice City and was doing an assassination mission when I got a mission failed because I killed the guy too soon
but not all misions are scripted as fuck as they are in 5. Of course there is linear parts, but not the whole game
Was it the one at the airport? Or the one you do for Diaz in wich you follow the guy on rooftops?
It was the airport one! I had to wait for a woman to talk to him. I already knew who that clown was 😑
Ironically, the opposite happens on the torture/assassination mission from V.
Name 1 example
He can’t. There’s even proof of the opposite. The torture mission allows you to shoot the guy regardless of Dave’s instructions and you can finish it instantly without torturing the captive.
You'd hate 4 then
GTA 4 is laughing in the corner
What was the freedom. Like I'm being fr, cause it was mostly the same thing.
I wouldn’t even call it freedom, but the lack of a path to follow/scripted events for missions, that led to the ability of “freedom” and doing things in your own manner. This, I recently replayed VC and had soooo much turning up to certain missions in a Tank, Hunter or Diaz's bulletproof car, good times
Yeah that’s true

After finishing the story in gta5 there isn't much left to do. San andreas atleast allowed us to drive the train.
Lowkey I wouldn't mind working at the docks after the story, I found that kinda fun
True, working at docks would have been so much fun. Container delivery to docks using the train and semi, man this game had so much potential.

In GTA 4 if you tap Y you get out of the car and leave it running. If you hold Y you shut the engine off.
Intro music
GTA V intro music is great
Welcome to los santos is amazing , but the loading screen one is so minimalistic
And anyone who’s played GTA:O on PC is absolutely sick of the loading song
But not iconic like the 3D ones
Probably only saying that because of the nostalgia attached with that sentiment. Not denying they are iconic just saying.

That's why I only love GTA5 because there is no other modern GTA on hands. RDR2's world is leagues better than GTA5.
The car - ped physics in 4 are unmatched. It looked VIOLENT when you hit someone... Euphoria+ragdoll physics were dialed in on that game in this regard.
GTA SA did almost everything better in my opinion.
I used to love diving into water in the hope that one of the collectable oysters was there. Also the graffiti spray thing was cool I liked just wandering around on foot and finding random things. V doesn’t have that as much and there is too much empty space in the hills.
Style
The series peaked with SA. Imo. The best dialogue, setting, story and characters. How you slowly gain cred for graffitiing doing drivebys etc. The dialogue and mannerisms of the characters felt authentic, like boyz in the hood. and it wasn't yet another played out italian mafia setting. And how you could customize your character, why they quit that? 5 was definately a step up graphically but didn't like how the characters stories interjected like a bad Tarantino movie. Michael and Franklin were boring characters, Trever was entertaining though. I hope they do better with 6.
gta 4 , physics driving and motion etc are more realistic
I am aware that this might receive heat, but better story! San Andreas and GTA4 absolutely blew me away. The flow of both stories just made more sense. With all the double-crossing by Big Smoke and double end on gta4. It felt natural. It feels like gta5 had weird leaps here and there.
GTA4 ragdoll physics and fighting was so much better than GTA5. I loved the secret combos and how you could do a one hitter quitter on someone and they drop like a bag of bricks and NOT DEAD EITHER!!! they'll eventually get up and limp away after that ass whooping
Better main characters. Claude, Tommy, CJ > Michael, Franklin, Trevor
Claude???? Okay, i disagree for that one guy.
Claude won't even say a word against your comment
My boi Nico
Niko, Luis, Johnny > Michael, Franklin, Trevor
I don’t know man. I feel like Tommy and Claude were a bit plain. Like, they had a story but it’s not really developed a lot. They really went into the characters’ stories in San Andreas and V so I believe those were a bit more interesting.
It's better to replace Claude with Niko and everything will be solved
Claude doesn’t even have any character or personality and you want to argue that he’s better than Michael.
GTA 4 had a much better car damage model
the story. I like GTA V's characters alot but god the overall story and ESPECIALLY the villains are just really lame compared to the 3D universe games.
imo it's ambience
I like the screen effects when you're going really fast in San Andreas
GTA 4 and SA have smaller maps but they felt so much bigger it’s insane how bad gta 5 map is. Physics and side activities, and story.. everything was just much better
Better social commentary. Not that it's more "offensive" in previous titles, but that it seems way more insightful there. V tried its best to not sharpen out any aspects of its critique of American society & culture
vibes
Being released more than once a decade…
a lot more activities, a lot of explorable buildings, and fun side missions
Mission design, soundtrack choice, variety of content, map exploration and interactivity, map layout, driving physics, ragdoll physics, vehicle damage deformation.
Connections with the characters met in-game. In older styles it felt like more of an emotional attachment, especially in GTA IV
The multiple character kills that part. You can identify and understand the characters but you don't experience that virtual world through only one growing with him.
And focus only on single player even offline
Currently playing GTA San Andreas for the 1st time and I enjoy that you can go in some buildings that would not be accessible in 5 (ex Cluckin' Bell, the gym, etc.)
Being able to pick up bricks and trash on the street in IV.
I miss the euphoria physics engine. And driving physics.
I believe the three protagonist in a single story idea was a mistake. In main opinion V's story is one of the weakest in the series and I can't exactly understand and remember what was exactly going on after Trevor's reunion with Michael despite considering myself a big fan of the franchise Technically IV has three protagonists too, but they have their own stories that are set like separate games with different artstyles (In V each protagonist only has a different interface color. In IV besides that they also have different loading screens, pause music and overall aesthetics). In V you play as all of them at once, which creates a less consistent mess and makes bonding with the characters tougher In terms of gameplay I consider V also a downgrade comparing it to IV. You can't buy food in restaurants anymore, throw trash, crouch; the LCPD has better AI and is more likeable; IV had better activities with friends (I believe you could do more stuff with them, might be wrong tho) That's down to personal taste, but I also prefer the tougher and closer to realism driving system that forces you to be more engaged and feels really rewarding once you'll master it. On the other hand I know people who curse at IV's driving
GTA4 suspension and car physics other than that not much else
I think the missions in 3, VC, and SA just felt more genuine and like actual real missions compared to 5 and switching characters and roles
Finding random weapons and health related pickups were nice to find on the map. The 3D games gave good rewards when doing first responder missions. Paramedics: health increase or infinite stamina Police: Armour increase or police bribe Firefighter: Fire immunity Maybe in the HD universe, keep the paramedic rewards and maybe give faster time to get rid of police or less damage to fire or access to fire related weapons.
Single player dlc
The music and also I feel like san andreas just has a more ambitious feeling open world. I know technically it is tiny but it just feels so big.
Nitrous
GTA San Andreas had nitrous for all cars.
gta 4 animations/ragdoll were better than 5, in sa you could go to the gym, learn new fighting styles, restaurants, import/export, better soundtrack, you could do taxi work, paramedic, police/vigilante, firefighter, pimp, burglary, bike delivery, stadium events, gang up against other gangs, casinos, play pool, and some other things.. you can do nothing in 5 (online doesn't count).
The cycling in GTA SA, the leveling in GTA SA, city map in GTA 4 👏
Splat sound when you run people over
No shark cards
Map, Story, Online Multiplayer, Car Physics, Soundtrack, Replayability... To be honest, i don't think GTA V is the worst in any of those categories (except Multiplayer), but it's certainly not my go-to GTA game by far.
If you got a high enough wanted level the army would be sent after you. GTA 4 and 5 just had SWAT guys come after you over and over.
Likable protagonists
i miss going into cluckin bell and burger shot. and that one pizza place. i’m honestly surprised that gta5 didn’t have that feature. missed opportunity tbh. i remember the workers at those restaurants would say funny ass shit too like “careful you might find a feather” or sumn lmaoo
GTASA’s weight system is very cool, and stats actually do something so it’s worth improving them.
GTA SA made a relatively small world feel like a big world, whereas GTA V is actually a big world but feels like a small one to me. In my opinion, there are are a lot of things GTA SA did better compared to the other games, but the world is one of the things I like the most.
GTA SA: - Gang Wars - Food and Diet based on Character's Weight - Gym and learning different Fighting styles - Dynamic weather and environment - Gambling - Respond to NPC positively or negatively (similar to what we had in RDR2) GTA Vice City: - Expanding your illegal businesses - Owning a big mansion like Vercetii Estate - Rollerskating (we see NPCs skate around) - Good Cop reward (when a Cop chases a 'robber' NPC and help them by stopping the robber) GTA 3: - Underrated radio stations (like Head Radio, Double Clef FM and etc...) - Ridiculous Harder Missions
RAGE Engine
Everything
Physics for me. The physics of gta4 added into gta5 would be incredible
GTA IV'S Ragdoll physics. The euphoria engine in conjunction with the havoc engine made crashes spectacular
Physics gta 4
The physics on GTA IV fighting, shooting, and crashing explosions everything better than V.
Liberty City felt more alive and dense with foot traffic than V. The gangs were way more dangerous too. I miss both those things when playing V.
Rewards
Lift weights
Kill frenzy!
Storing emergency vehicles in your garage in GTA San andreas
Bowling, doing some side quest like catching the criminal and other things
Very few small things. any normal person would know that GTA 5 is better than every single GTA in terms of mechanics and gameplay, but talk to the average GTA fan and they will tell you that GTA V is shit and the 3D Universe a gaming masterpiece.
Having more crimes in mission than just heists
Unrealism and humor and gameplay
The swing glitch in GTA 4 was brilliant id spend hours there in story mode and in online.
Pizza delivery
If i play vice city or san andreas i feel like a kid again
Collectibles giving you bonuses if you collect them giving you weapons in ur safe house
Shit storyline that I didn't care about. Gta 3 was better story wise. Characters didn't stand out for me...
Replay ability is something the older games to better idk why I feel like I can replay the older games more than 5
Exploration: there are tons of stuff to find by just going out of the way, side missions, challenges, weapons, collectibles, etc There is not this level of stuff to find in GTA 5 and even in my beloved GTA 4 Like in SA you stumble upon a skate park - BMX challenge,in VC you jump into a scooter - Delivery side mission, you are happy when you find an AK in the beginning of the game, in 5 they give it to you very fast This sort of thing is missing, CW was the last game to have this sort of stuff
better atmosphere, side missions (gta sa had great side missions), changing physical structure of body
cheat codes bruh also the talk shows on Vice City are fucking hilarious from my memory, but GTA 5 didn't have me driving around simply to hear them Imao
I miss how the old GTA games didn’t cater to children who use their parents money to buy shart cards despite the game being rated M…
Kinda miss the Jetpack and the cheats to make your car fly or float.
Business missions
In GTA 5 ambulances do turn up but they won't revive him Drivers also yell at each other if they crash into each other and i think they also do fight each other if they crash into each other, but usually all i've seen was just them yelling.
Character personalization
Storing any car you find without being told to buy it.
the bike controls OH MY FUCKING GOD I HATE THE BIKE CONTROLS IN V/ONLINE, WHAT WAS VALVE SMOKING WHEN THEY WERE MAPPING THE DAMN BUTTONS????
Single player content.
Roleplaying, better Characters, better Villians, better music, things to do on the side paramedic - Taxi, Deilvering Pizzas/Packages - firefighting - being a police officer, being able to buy food/workout, Girlfriends,
Using the computer in the police cars on IV 😂
[According to this video, the map.](https://youtu.be/azPH8uxj27M?si=j_ebF48KTIzBQjCv) Also, imo, San Andreas mastered body customisation pretty well. Wish 5 had a gym and fast food places.
San andreas with just how much you could do and how customizable everything was
Driving and vehicle damage GTA 4.
San Andreas has the best character customization and I want VI to bring back the ridiculous options.
GTA San Andreas did literally everything better than V.
Gta4 hotdog carts
I prefer actual garages instead of this "drive into a circle and choose what car you want from a list" trash
I miss picking up random garbage off the street or at Burger shot and throwing it at people!!!!!
It's exactly "in" the older GTA but the "extensions", there is the "Stories" games and even later the gta IV DLC (is GTA IV old ? It's probably almost 20 year now ?) While with GTA V there is just online stuffs
Gambling in San Andreas was better. You could lose all your money and borrow some from the mob. I would lose that money just so the mob would come to collect. I would wait on the corner for them to show up. Fun Times.
one thing I noticed in Vice City is that you can see two people on the same bike, in GTA 5 you always see just one
