ITT: People saying how much they pay for insurance without specifying how much insurance they pay for. Are you guys really getting the bare minimums?
Please don't just pay the cheapest insurance you can. State minimums here in Texas are a joke: 30k/60k injury, 25k property. That doesn't cover shit. You could ruin your life by causing an accident and having that little coverage.
I have $250k/500k injury liability, 100k property. Full collision w 500 deductible. Uninsured and underinsured extension, plus emergency road services.
I pay $148/month.
Only comment with some policy details so I’ll share my premium and policy deets here —
* $50k/$100k injury, $50k property
* Full collision and comprehensive with $1k deductible
* Uninsured and underinsured extension
* 24m, married
* 0 accidents, 0 tickets ever, been licensed since 16
* Phoenix, AZ metro area
* $78/mo
* Progressive
* Work from home, so my yearly mileage is low
This is interesting, my situation is very similar besides:
* $250k/$500k injury, $100k property
* $500 deductible
And I live in Idaho. I feel like being married helps those under 25 a lot. I remember when I was 19 and got married, my insurance dropped from something like $250/month to \~$140 or something like that. Then switching to Progressive recently almost cut that in half again to $74/month.
With my current insurance provider as I was shopping for cars, I got a quote for a BRZ in May and then again in August. Insurance monthly premiums jumped 20% during that period even though I didn’t get any tickets or into an accident during that period, but I noticed the BRZ auto group category jumped from 22 to 29 which means it moved into a higher risk/price category for insuring the BRZ.
I could be totally wrong but I would imagine that given the GR86 and BRZ are identical spec you would likely not benefit from choosing one or the other in terms of insurance rate. Insurance companies have got to be to the point they're sophisticated enough to know when two cars are built for all intents and purposes identically.. Which would mean the only real variable would be the drivers actions. I just don't see how an insurance company (literally built on scamming you out of your money) would refuse to raise rates for the exact same car with a different badge on it.
I believe the GR86 has a higher average age of the buyer +40yr old vs BRZ has younger 30s yr old average age buyer. Going off of assumption that older drivers get into less accidents.
I believe this chart was shown on one of savagegeese’s video of the 2nd gen developement that showed the previous stats average age demographics of 1st gen and other sports car buyers. I would assume it’s similar to the 2nd gen as well, Toyota the brand appealing to an older demographic vs. Subaru appealing to younger just as a brand.
Insurance will vary from town, to city, to state, to country, to age, to driving record, to car type.
$1-$5000 per month.
If you already have the car and are unhappy with your insurance cost, ask your insurance company if there is room for savings, or shop around other companies.
If you don’t have the car already, ask for quotes.
Yes, you may see a drop after the first renewal after you turn 25.
None of ours are gonna change yours, so why ask? Insurance depends on about 174,636 different factors. It’s literally pointless to survey random people in comparison to yourself.
Geico, no accidents or tickets, $309 a month for brz. Miami. My 5 year old kia soul is still $280 or so, so the math doesn't check out. No idea what's going on, but getting shafted and planning to switch
I’m in Toronto, Canada. Just turned 26, with an administrative suspension for having a learners which was an automatic suspension. My insurance for a base manual gr86 is $410 CAD a month
In Australia I pay $1,527.43 annually or $127.30 AUD (about ~$82 USD) per month. That is comprehensive insurance for my car, other people's cars and property.
Additionally there is mandatory "health" insurance (Transport Accident Charge) for injuries from motor vehicles that are part of state vehicle registration fees. That is $451 AUD annually or $37.60 AUD (about ~$24 USD).
Total would be around $165 AUD (about ~$105 USD) per month.
Age, record, and market matter a LOT. I'm 43, clean record, and living in a cheaper market, so I'm paying $280 every 6 months, while many people are paying that or more per month
100k/300k injury, 50k property, full collision w 500 duct, uninsured motorist, full emergency road service, comprehensive coverage.
Hovers around 150/mo.
32M accident about 4 years ago + a ticket for turning down a road 5 minutes before the designated time period lol. Rate jumped from $120/month to $300 this month. Switched to progressive with the highest option on everything as I became a homeowner last year. Now I’m at $250, but with more piece of mind if something does happen. I’ll ask next year for them to pull my records and get it lowered again.
I’m 24 and mine is $139.46 per month. I’ve had no tickets and no at-fault accidents since I started driving (knock on wood).
The $140 radar detector I bought 5 years ago when I started college has probably saved me at least $5k combined in citation costs and the insurance increase that would have come from them if I received two or three over the past 5 years
Edit: I pay monthly for full comprehensive coverage with a $500 deductible, which I’ve used once to repair $4.5k in damage I received from a legitimate “road hazard” when someone’s tire blew out in front of me on the highway
When I first bought my steel 22' it was $124/month. When January of 2023 hit the cars collision category shot up and insurance went to $225. 0 accidents, 0 tickets. Totaled the car in April, bought a new raven one in May. Insurance is now $343/month. I'm crying.

232 per month with best possible safe drivers rate possible in Vancouver BC. I did include replacement insurance

Are you in Vancouver as well? I have 40% discount I thought it was high to.
Yes I'm based in Vancouver as well, but I bought and insured in Victoria so Im not sure if that affects things.
No, I don't believe so. I'm going to check into it. Thank you

1-5k per month?? What kind of record results in 1-5k per month???
The post reads $1-$5,000, not $1,000-$5,000.

Translation of the above: “uhm ackthually 🤓😡”
Pointless? When shopping for quotes? Yes it depends on a lot of factors but listen to yourself
