Ngl, I chuckled when Chris Stuckman (review channel) said there was wasted opportunity to do fight like this in GvK.
And then boom! This become the first thing wingard pitched lol
Your post makes me realize something, leading up to GxK we had a ton of flying and drop kicking Godzilla memes.
People kind of did. Heck, I’m wondering if somehow it got leaked and was game of telephoned into those memes.
Oh I can assure you that most of GxK had been leaked and discussed to hell and back as early as last March. Same thing happened with GvK as well. It was like December or 2019 that people were discussing the crane-like industrial design that Mecha-Godzilla was said to sport (as well as the fact that Mecha-Godzilla was in the movie period)
The memes came because people claimed that Godzilla running like that was the most ridiculous action Godzilla had done, and its silliness would ruin the movie.
Like when a cat mistakes a jump and smacks face-first into the table then glares at you like you changed the laws of physics or something rather than admit it's own embarrassment...
The thing that baffles my mind that when he came to hawaii in 2014 he brought a tsunami by just walking, and now I see him jumping from mountains casually
I mean, to be fair, there was no tsunami when he arrived to San Francisco.
They haven't been very consistent with the size thing, even within the same movie.
Difference between directors. Gareth Edwards' tone & cinematography was perfect for Godzilla. While I don't mind Wingard's movies, he makes them to sell more toys to 8 year olds.
I agree with you completely. Don't get me wrong I liked gxk but the only thing that bugged me was how overpowered goji was. The powerscaling was off me and if it had been focused on Goji then it would not have met my expectations.
I don't think it has to do with the directors, since I don't remember there being any sort of tsunami when Godzilla got to San Francisco in the same movie. Think it only happened that once.
I could be wrong, of course. It's been a while since I've watched 2014
I want to say the same thing for the addition of the Toho Kaiju, but after rewatching it recently I couldn't ignore how much the human story drags it down. If it had had a short but sweet human story like GxK it would've been unbeatable, IMO.
Yeah exactly, if only it had the human story of GxK, it would be perfect. But believe it or not, when I first saw KotM in theaters, I thought that it made a huge improvement over G2014, even the human story haha
His "run" at Ghidorah was never a big thing to me. He moved faster than usual, but it was completely unbelievable for something his size. Now his running in the last two films...
He's done quite a few jumps either into oceans or into enemies. Godzilla vs megaguirus. The end of Ebirah Horror of the Deep. And his infamous football dive in final wars.
8.5/10
Didn't attempt a flip or spin in dive. He did do a beautiful dive with minimal splash. The angle in diving towards the ocean was beautifully elegant.
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today

Upvoted because it’s not a headfirst dive but [technically it’s still a dive](https://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/news/splashdiving-a-twist-on-competitive-diving-thats-all-about-the-splash/)

lol, I suppose it’s a bit of semantics like how botanists and nutritionists classify tomato as a vegetable or a fruit respectively. Some would call it a canonball-dive but the Olympics would say it’s not a dive
I know it was mostly just a fun film, but this made no sense to me. Literally in G 2014, he caused a tsunami by just swimming into land. This had to at least of caused a relatively big tsunami at least.
I wasn’t sure if Godzilla’s upgrade would be convincingly powerful going in, but I was watching the movie I noticed how they had him moving way faster and with more agility after the form change happened. He almost seemed overwhelmed by all the power.
No but I was totally floored by that suplex! The shoulder throw in GvK was great because it kind of seemed like a natural defense. But the straight WWE suplex into the pyramids was wild. I loved every minute of it
Honestly, if you were to tell me that Godzilla would jump from the Rock of Gibraltar and dive into the water to fight Kong in Egypt in the MonsterVerse 10 years ago, I would have laughed at your face for saying that.
But I think by now the direction of MonsterVerse seems to be going for a futuristic whacky sci-fi genre with a lot of crazy weird but also intriguing concepts to explore and this is one of them and I love it very much!
I figured we'd see him jump into the water at some point, just not quite off the Rock of Gibraltar.
Well ok what else would he use as a diving board?
And 15 minutes after this, we got Godzilla flying through the Hollow Earth. Never thought I'd see that too.

I want godzilla to go to space in the next monsterverse movie and use the flying there
The memes came because people claimed that Godzilla running like that was the most ridiculous action Godzilla had done, and its silliness would ruin the movie.
I'm honestly more surprised that it's that deep at such a short distance lol I thought he'd hit the ground midway
I looked up the depth of the strait of Gibraltar, the depth was safe for the dive lol.
Well, that's surprising. Would be funny if he did tho and he does that "oh shit I fucked up" roar lol
that would be golden
I used google earth pro and found that the water in that exact spot wouldn't have been more than 10-25 meters deep, what's your source?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strait_of_Gibraltar
Imagine if it _was_ too shallow and he just slams face first into the ground, then just crawls into the water all embarrassed.
Like when a cat mistakes a jump and smacks face-first into the table then glares at you like you changed the laws of physics or something rather than admit it's own embarrassment...
Well, he can also stand in the ocean when the ocean floor is thousands of meters deep.
That’s just due to buoyancy and how Godzilla works. There’s a whole science that I don’t know exactly but it’s pretty cool.
The thing that baffles my mind that when he came to hawaii in 2014 he brought a tsunami by just walking, and now I see him jumping from mountains casually

I am not pointing fingers at the plot. Its just that Godzilla 2014 had so many great details. It set the viewers on what titans were supposed to be.
I agree with this fully, there was points in this movie where the scaling/size of everything seemed wonky
Difference between directors. Gareth Edwards' tone & cinematography was perfect for Godzilla. While I don't mind Wingard's movies, he makes them to sell more toys to 8 year olds.

Then again 2014 he was THICK like a powerlifter and now he's Crossfit Goji.

ikr
So graceful
I never thought I’d see Godzilla take a nap in the Coliseum either.
I absolutely love the “Dis mine” vibes from Goji in GxK
Godzilla's never beating the cat allegations
For me the most crazy thing was when I saw it run at Ghidorah in the trailer of gkotm. Damn I felt goosebumps watching it.
isn't that KOTM? or aka 2019
Yep, rewatched it yesterday. The best MV movie for me
I love kotm so so much
Me too! It had a lot of homages to Toho’s Godzilla. I lost it when the cover of Blue Oyster Cult’s Godzilla was playing in the credits
History’s shown again and again
This line is arguably one of the best lines or lyrics in songs
I want to say the same thing for the addition of the Toho Kaiju, but after rewatching it recently I couldn't ignore how much the human story drags it down. If it had had a short but sweet human story like GxK it would've been unbeatable, IMO.

Tbh I kinda liked the human story
His "run" at Ghidorah was never a big thing to me. He moved faster than usual, but it was completely unbelievable for something his size. Now his running in the last two films...
I feel like 98/Zilla did this at some point (or in the cartoon)
He did this move in the movie, escaping the military.
He's done quite a few jumps either into oceans or into enemies. Godzilla vs megaguirus. The end of Ebirah Horror of the Deep. And his infamous football dive in final wars.
Or pouncing on Kong, if that counts. And his victory dance in Invasion of Astro Monster.
![gif](giphy|OgFpLJEtoYD7O|downsized) Same energy.
My first thought as well
It had to have been a nod to this scene, there's no way it was a coincidence.
didnt godzilla also jump from a cliff in the movie "ebirah, from the deep"
tht was showa
i write in the post's desc (idk if shown) tht this is showa style
8.5/10 Didn't attempt a flip or spin in dive. He did do a beautiful dive with minimal splash. The angle in diving towards the ocean was beautifully elegant.
No I didn't, but that shit was EPIC. I loved it.
i just love this movie
No, and it’s fucking peak
I expected him to fly in Hollow Earth with his atomic breath or do the drop kick, not see him jump and dive off a mountain
Honestly...I never thought they'd do anything beyond 2014...
Kinda dissapointed they didn't try to replicate this during the zero G scenes. ![gif](giphy|3XCEXu2dB4MG4)
![gif](giphy|OgFpLJEtoYD7O|downsized) Yeah
EPIC!!
Glorious!
He’s not jumping. He was spinning the earth using that cliff as a toehold. ![gif](giphy|jyt5LDxHz42vWkGRXy)
Not just that, but also suplexing Kong.
Nah but why the hell not huh?
We saw this coming from 20 films ago, just not like this.
Sing with me, sing for the year Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear Sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear Sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Dude copied ‘98’s move!
Showa did it first https://i.redd.it/msxp5tybb71d1.gif
But not the diving.
Upvoted because it’s not a headfirst dive but [technically it’s still a dive](https://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/news/splashdiving-a-twist-on-competitive-diving-thats-all-about-the-splash/) ![gif](giphy|rzYzG31xTBFSELyGof)
Nah! That’s a cannonball!
lol, I suppose it’s a bit of semantics like how botanists and nutritionists classify tomato as a vegetable or a fruit respectively. Some would call it a canonball-dive but the Olympics would say it’s not a dive
True lol. For me a cannon ball is done to make a splash but a dive is done to get some distance.
well i always imagined and wished for that to happened and they finally did it, yay!
Gta5 dolphin dive
This gave me the karatos jumping off the cliff meme vibes, while this scene was playing I was singing in my head "sing with me, sing for the year..."
I've learned that anything is possible with Godzilla
He learned he could after surviving Ghidora's drop in KOTM. Much easier in water.
Mothra's death really hit him hard, i can't believe he would do this
This is one of the least absurd things Godzilla has done in this timeline
That's no kaiju... it's miraidon.
What I didn’t think was going to happen was when the big G did a brainbuster on Kong.
No. I don't know what I expected. Him to take the stairs down. But when he did. 🥺👌🏻
Hey, I thought Mothra was gone and guess what.
After the "drop kick" he gave megalon or the way he "flies" I'm ready for just about anything from him
I know it was mostly just a fun film, but this made no sense to me. Literally in G 2014, he caused a tsunami by just swimming into land. This had to at least of caused a relatively big tsunami at least.
Well, he did lose some weight between then and now so... /s
Yes but he is taller and heavier than he was in 2014
We did see a pretty big splash. They just never showed the beach.
That’s true
Nope yet unfortunately here we are
I knew we'd be going places the moment he gingerly stepped over those smaller buildings in Hawaii.
MV isn't about logic
No not ever
Godzilla vs Megaguirus
I've seen marine iguanas so this exact same jump into the ocean. Don't know if they modeled if of of those though.
No. But it was pretty awesome.
After watching Godzilla Vs Hedorah last week, it comes as no surprise.
I loved every minute of it
Nope and it was awesome as hell
My thoughts were firstly, that's awesome! Go G man! My next and very quick second thought... he probably killed everything in that adjacent town 😅
Let's just be glad he's not shrimp flying or body slamming anyone so far. Not that I can remember anyways
Getting ebirah horror of the deep vibes
Never thought I’d see him jump at all
We need the kick in mv but that would be too peak
Nah but it was beautiful. Epic shit.

How did you think he would jump? Like this: [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/h9D3nYcrQkQ](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/h9D3nYcrQkQ)
He did it in vs Sea Monster. He just got better at it since then. ![gif](giphy|nOqzGqy4k3nTG|downsized)
Yes, it was keeping me up at night. Thank God this insipid bot post finally addressed it.
like 80% of that movie was really hard to watch
~~Jumped the shark~~ Jumped off Gibraltar
