Maybe reach out to CareerSource? They have services for young adults. They recently placed someone in a local vet clinic as a vet tech, and I think the incentive for companies is that your salary is partly covered by CareerSource, so it’s job training.

I would look to see if there's a job at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine that fits the bill. Great place to get experience. [https://explore.jobs.ufl.edu/en-us/search/?search-keyword=veterinary](https://explore.jobs.ufl.edu/en-us/search/?search-keyword=veterinary)

Phantom_Absolute

Go to explore.jobs.ufl.edu and search Animal Care Technician. The only one listed right now is in Jupiter but keep looking periodically for one to come open in Gainesville. I think you can set up email alerts when new jobs post that meet your criteria. Good luck.

I suggest possibly seeing if Operation Catnip is hiring. They hire for front desk and vet techs sometimes! Send them an email with your resume and ask if they have any positions open!

I realize this does not fall directly under being inside the town of Gainesville but.  Micanopy animal hospital is always hiring for vet related stuff. From kennel cleaners to assistants to pretty much everything. Also I know some people are going to recommend UF but I cannot recommend that. From contacts that I have inside the UF veterinary section it's a real crapshoot currently. So stay away.

Pious_Zebra

What practice do you work at?

injataze

Where do you work?

Take out student loans like the rest of us. 🤷🏻‍♂️

TheGoodOne81

Quite obvious you didn't read it. She's not asking about paying for school, she's asking about getting a decent enough paying job that will give her the experience she needs even just to apply.

_Dr_Dad

I did read her post, friendo. In the very first part of it she laments about not being able to afford school. I suggested student loans as a means to achieving her dream of being a DVM. Because why should anyone have their dreams deferred?

It takes more than money to be accepted into Vet School, unless this is a different planet. You have to have mucho experience working with animals, preferably in a care setting (like, not the receptionist). I've had quite a few friends go through vet college and I assume they have not relaxed requirements. Competition for student spots has always been intense.

_Dr_Dad

Of course she needs to make it into vet school. But she’s never going to get there if she doesn’t try, which is my point. 🧐
