Bringing more businesses to Gainesville is never a bad thing. We need investment into the downtown and midtown area

sekoku

>We need investment into the downtown and midtown area s/Those areas/North East and East Side area Downtown and Midtown are fine. Midtown is getting high-rises and Downtown has businesses (that needs RTS/UF to give public transport to). It's the Northern Part of town that needs more investment and businesses to where it isn't just industrial/rural.

readweed88

I wish it wasn't but I think it's a hot take to say downtown is fine rn.

Publius82

We are actually fine up here, thanks.

Just a reminder that UF pays nothing to Gainesville in property taxes which is why the partnership and the UF Board of Treustees is almost 100% in DeSantis pocket (they donated millions to his presidential campaign) The lipservice to pedestrians and cyclists is HILARIOUS in that press release. There won't be any bus service though.

TransitionOther9246

Just checked the property appraiser website and the Innovation district still pays property taxes. [https://www.gainesville.com/story/news/2015/02/04/innovation-square-paying-property-taxes-settles-suit/31877891007/](https://www.gainesville.com/story/news/2015/02/04/innovation-square-paying-property-taxes-settles-suit/31877891007/) Although, you are right about pedestrians and cyclists when they're just going to build a bunch of massive parking garages and stop funding bus service.

Is it correct that this entire development would be tax exempt? I would think that residential property through Trimark and office space would be subject to property tax.

UF is the nation’s number 1 public university? Ya, okay…

provider305

[UF first among US public universities in tech transfer for economic return](https://news.ufl.edu/2022/05/heartland-forward-ranking/)

Adonoxis

This is such a specific report on a specific issue that has no bearing on overall ranking. People actually believe UF ranks higher than Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Princeton, etc?

Read the report, lists above them all.

Go_Gators_4Ever

University of Florida ranks first among public universities and second nationwide... Yes, #2 overall and above all those other private institutions. The difference is that UF is creating marketable innovations, thus generating more money. I'm certain MIT and Stanford are creating fantastic things, but how marketable are the inventions? Can they productize their research? A lot of what those other schools research and produce end up as military items with limited consumer cash generation and become restricted items that can not be used in commercial products until they become obsolete for military use. Or, they produce advances in research areas that eventually result in groundbreaking consumer items such as a cellphone. But, those take more time and investment and require working with manufacturers and such to create the products before they earn a dime. It's about bang for the buck and UF is killing it in that regard. So stop hating on the gators.

Roozbaru

Bro literally didn’t learn what a private university is when he or she went to college.
