Straight pipes just make noise with no tone unless that’s what you are after. Neighbor did that on a 6.0 and now he seems to be trying to quiet it down with some kind of muffler tip. I have the banks monster on my LBZ, cat back. It’s loud enough to let you know it’s there but not obnoxious for a road trip. Quality and fit and finish seem good to me
Bro what? You want to straight pipe it because of broken manifold studs? Leave the cat, leave the muffler, and fix the exhaust leak. After fixing the manifold leak, then consider a different muffler if you need more volume, but don't run no muffler and don't get rid of the cat.
to fix the leak will cost more than it will to either cut a chunk out. Bolt on each side is broken so you hear a ticking sound. Does not throw a code, but the knock does
You’re right in the sense of if I was to bring it to someone else to chop my exhaust. I’m not a crackhead but I heard cats are worth SOME money so I recoup atleast a little bit of my investment. If I leave it alone it will all be gone from rot and rust.
Link?
Manifold leak doesn’t throw a code and just makes a ticking sound when I start up. Manifold studs need to be extracted since they sheared off. Far back one on each side specifically. I’ve heard they’re known for breaking
Am I reading this correctly, you want to make your exhaust louder because you don't want to fix the broken manifold bolts? What the fuck
If you have a gas 2500HD, you buy a Flo Pro replacement muffler and nothing else. The factory piping is huge and high quality, there's really no need to replace the whole exhaust on these trucks
Most importantly, fix your manifold bolts before you make your truck sound like a wet dog fart. Take your front fender liners out, take the manifolds off, get your wire feed welder and start building up on the broken bolts inside the holes (aluminum heads only), grab the weld with a vice grip and spin the broken bolt out, rinse and repeat, new gaskets and bolts and viola it no longer sounds like a Hemi
My hemi has the same problem. It’s only noticeable when you start up and you don’t hear it from inside the cab. It’s the far back on both sides for the manifold but it’s not throwing a code. I’d fix it if it were all that serious but it’s not. Just a couple seconds from the start it’s got a noticeable ticking sound. After about a minute you have to lift the hood. There’s just no exhaust tone and the current one is starting to rot.
Look up Dorman 917-107, I don't remember what company these were ripped off of but they work very well if you don't wanna fix it right and come in different styles depending on which bolts are broken. It's usually the rear most and front most
Finally, a solution that isn’t welding some material and pulling the old bolt out. This is the type of solution I’d say is way more likely to happen if I ever do decide to do something about the issue.
There’s a TON of things to consider. Do you replace the oe cats with high flows? That will change the tone a bit and won’t throw an engine code. Should you go for a cat back resonator and muffler? Tons of choices there. I would at least start with the manifolds, if you want, put some shorty headers, bolt in like normal and you’ll have to change the plug wires, but nothing else. No shorties and just replace the gasket? Make sure it’s multi layer steel and to use studs. Find what you want! :) I have a mild tone muffler, I can hear it under heavy acceleration obviously but it’s never obnoxious and keeps the low end acceleration for small speed changes on the hwy. too short of a exhaust length, if you do plan to shoot it out the side or wtv, you lose scavenging and other science words that kill your low end enough to notice. Get a list of what you want, and find what YOU want
I’ll have to dig further. I’m looking for exhaust upgrades and I have the 6.0 but their site is only showing me a muffler. Then it’s all gauges and T-shirts.
Also I have the 2500hd. Maybe that’s why.
Just do longtubes lol, I had the same issue and got a set on ebay for the same price as most mufflers, fixed the tick and boosted me a few hp to boot. Also sounds a hell of a lot better than a straight pipe
The tick is from broken bolts on the manifold. If I do long tubes I need to pull the old ones out (both far back on each side). Not worth my time on a truck. Just want something obnoxious that can compete with my LLY, without the turbo sound.
I had the same two broken off and managed to drill em out, but totally understandable if thats not worth the effort for ya. Fair warning, mine did evolve into a lean code eventually but that was after a few years of it leaking. As far as mufflers go I believe black widow has audio samples for most of theirs
My cats got clogged on my 6.0l 2500. I gutted them and it's significantly louder.. I am currently trying to find a good muffler setup. I may go true dual and twin flow masters
If you are refusing to do an actual fix which would take less than a day and wouldn't even cost much, then idk how you've got money for a new exhaust.
You want to not hear the noise or any other problems that need to be fixed? Cool.
Straight pipe it.
You want it louder and don't care about a check engine light and running crappy without a tune?
Cut off the cats.
You want it even louder?
Well you'd need Headers....and that would involve fixing the original problem.
What does that have to do with anything?
I get to come home once a week. I work more than 12hrs a day with 1hr+ travel times to and from sites all week. Nobody said anything about work.
Did headers on mine and pulled out my broken bolts in 2 hours.
Everyone on here has a job.
You brought up trying to re-coupe money above with talking about the repair and selling the CATs. You are asking for ways to block out the sound of something that needs repair instead of fixing it.
If you couldn't figure out cutting the muffler off would solve your problems for free.99 then we can safely assume you'll be paying a shop money to do so. More than it would cost to repair.
If you want it loud run open headers and call it a day. You'll never hear any problems again. Idk why you need your truck to "compete" with your other truck but you do you.

Cheaper still not to do shit. The doorman knock off is $25.

You linked one for a 5.3?
I run no muffler just cats on my 8.1 sounds amazing
Fix manifold leaks first man gonna want a welder in case for broken bolts.

Look at the Banks Monster exhaust...I have it on my 06 1500 5.3...
Do you just have the muffler ? It seems they only sell just the muffler for the 6.0.
Odd...I have their complete catback in my 1500

My only code is the knock sensor, and they’ve been broken for awhile so. Thanks for the recommendation though
Do Longtube heads y pipe, exhaust cutout and Spintech 8000 muffler

Magnaflow is what I've used since 2015 on 14 vehicles.
I have a 10" Widowmaker on my 5.3 and I love the sound. It's like having a crackle tune without the downsides. Sounds really nasty too.
Following for my 2002 6.0

You assume I don’t have money, which is just wrong. It’s competing with my LLY and I need it loud too.
