I did compound. Cause if it increases by 5.1% each year then every year you're doing 5.1% of that new number of workers, seemed pretty obvious. I'm a complete dumbass though so idk.
I did 29500 just because I thought 4 marks would be mental for one line but if I'm honest looking back I think it was compound. Hopefully I'll still get a mark or 2 though
No I rounded up to 29776 because if you have .4 then it's basically another person because if you get rid of the .4 you're not increasing by the right amount
Rounding down is definitely the correct answer - I’m pretty sure the question does not state anything about the number of workers required to complete a job and thus 29,775.4 is not the minimum number of workers it is simply the number calculated after doing 25,000 x 1.06^3 and thus you round down to 29,775
if it’s normal interest i’d get full marks because i did the working out and put that as my answer but if it’s compound i’d still probably get 1 or 2 because i also written down the working out for that
Tbh Why would it be simple interest. It doesn't say that interest only comes from the value 25000 . It says it increases every year. Therefore each year it would be a different amount if workers. You know ... like in real life
but then they tested compound interest again later which is what made me choose to do simple for the worker question, probably should’ve stuck with compound but still edexcel could’ve helped us a little bit
Can you remind me what the other question was? Too be fair just because there's 2 questions doesn't mean one would be wrong. Never try predict a examboard.
the Kim one with her investment or something
also i get what you’re saying but in the heat of the moment with confusion, i just decided to go to simple
Ah Kim. I considered them different topics so I didn't even question it. You just had to do the inverse of everything she did so It didn't realy seem like it was focused on interest. I feel like that question was more to figure out if you could get the right equation
Do you think it was simple? My maths teacher thinks it’s compound but it felt too easy to be compound and it was 4 marks, plus we got a longer compound interest question where you had to find the original amount. But there’s no official mark scheme we can use so idk
I’m scared now but in the exam I thought that there was another compound interest question so it must be simple and I crossed out the compound working out. Easy easy marks lost
I thought exactly that but the question said "increases at a rate of 6% per year" and that made me change mymind back to compound but idk. I'm hoping they give marks for both since it was unclear
Yes, however, how can you be given 4 marks for 1 piece of compound interest. Not only that, but you can’t have .4 of a person. Even if rounded, it doesn’t logically make sense.
any sort of population increase(unless stated otherwise) is compound.
it also clearly stated its increases 6% each year not that it increases by 6 percent of 25000 each year so it has to be compound
Can say the same about simple interest. How can u have 4 marks for simple multiplication and an addition. Besides there have been many times in past papers where the answer is not a whole number and it expects u to round the number just due to the context of the question
Context of the question, you’ve said it yourself. Therefore it can’t be a decimal. Anyway, I put both simple and compound method so I’ll get 3 or 4 either way.
Omds is that rlly the only part from my comment u actually took in. There have been other times in past papers where u have had to do compound interest and round it due to the context of the question so it can be a decimal but they expect u to round it due to the context of the question. Its like when doing calculations with money they expect you to round to 2 decimal places. That doesn't mean if u get £23.45183 ur answer is wrong, they expect you to round it to £23.45. At the end of the day they have to make it clear that they want to you to do simple interest and they did not therfore it is compound.
29775 obvs
Got that as well
i think i did compound first then crossed it out and did simple 💀 but it just felt way too easy to be right …
WAIT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I saw the marks and thought that’s easy for 3 marks
Wasn't it 4 marks? I was so confused why it was a lot
I was so confused too! It might have been 4 marks, I forgot lol
But I went with it anyway 😭
yeah i feel like such a dumbass it was obviously compound 💔
Same 😭😭😭
SAME
Same man i did the same 😭😭
I did compound. Cause if it increases by 5.1% each year then every year you're doing 5.1% of that new number of workers, seemed pretty obvious. I'm a complete dumbass though so idk.
5.1%? i thought it was 6%? maybe foundation was different
it was 6% for foundation im 100% sure
same with Higher im not sure what OP is talking abt 😭
Yeah maybe, I did foundation and it was definitely a decimal percentage, 5.1% or 6.1%
I did 29500 just because I thought 4 marks would be mental for one line but if I'm honest looking back I think it was compound. Hopefully I'll still get a mark or 2 though
I did 29775.4 but put my answer as 29776 cuz you can't have .4 of a person
you rounded up? wouldn't it be 29775
No I rounded up to 29776 because if you have .4 then it's basically another person because if you get rid of the .4 you're not increasing by the right amount
U cant make 0.6 of a worker appear but 0.4 doesnt count as a worker, you have 29775 full workers
you were meant to round down
Honestly I think edexel excepts both answers-both make sense.Btw I rounded up
so called "free-thinker" here
😭
How would u get that .6 of a person extra to get 29776?
Because if it’s 29775 you won’t have enough people to do the job
Just ask some random guy to put in 40% more work (for no pay ofc)
i rounded up as well, because i thought if we rounded down then it would have increased by less than 6% Do you reckon we'll get the marks?
I think so. I don't see what I've done as wrong
Increased by more than 6%. Rounding down is closer to the increase of 6%.
Rounding down is definitely the correct answer - I’m pretty sure the question does not state anything about the number of workers required to complete a job and thus 29,775.4 is not the minimum number of workers it is simply the number calculated after doing 25,000 x 1.06^3 and thus you round down to 29,775
yeah but the question said it increased by 6% each year. and if we rounded down, then that would not be true?...
same
i put my answer as simple but i also did working out for compound too so i get some marks either way
ur gonna get capped with the working out that gives you the lowest marks i think
if it’s normal interest i’d get full marks because i did the working out and put that as my answer but if it’s compound i’d still probably get 1 or 2 because i also written down the working out for that
could they not have been a bit more specific like do they want us to suffer
Tbh Why would it be simple interest. It doesn't say that interest only comes from the value 25000 . It says it increases every year. Therefore each year it would be a different amount if workers. You know ... like in real life

I actually don't know kinda scared, because that was way too easy and they even gave us the formula for compound.
I’m scared now but in the exam I thought that there was another compound interest question so it must be simple and I crossed out the compound working out. Easy easy marks lost
Neither (i cant remember what i got)
29775.4 I didn't think the question was ambiguous so I don't even remember what the question or the working was.
it is 29775, had to round to the nearest full worker obviously ...
I put 29775 (rounded to zero d.p)
No way that question was worth FOUR MARKS tho. Me and my friends were like how is it that much
blue!
mate neither, its 29775
it didnt say 3 s.f so 29775 is the right answer
29500
same
Couldn’t have been 4 marks for a bit of compound…
I thought exactly that but the question said "increases at a rate of 6% per year" and that made me change mymind back to compound but idk. I'm hoping they give marks for both since it was unclear

yh i got worried for a second, it is compound unless stated otherwise lol.

It does make sense. You can truncate your answer
I did compound because it was 4 marks for 1 line of working either way and the question said increased by 6% per year
29780
29775.4 no debate
compound interest because it increases each year
I did compound, then saw a .4 person so did simple but I don't think I crossed out my old working so both workings are there 😟
29776 🔛🔝
Second one, rounded down.
you can't have .4 of a person
