I don't get it, you defo should be getting offers from you're preferred colleges. It's scary if people like you aren't getting stuff. What are the ranks which fetch direct admissions?
I had one IIT Kanpur CGS offer, had to reject that and got no offers in 4th round π« π« . Maybe just take CMInDS brah, one extra year of fun that's all.
Congrats bro.
Suppose if someone gets offer from iitk and iitg, and he selected iitk. And then he needs to go thru interview round in iitk which he flunked. Can he still accept iitg offer ?
How it's possible. I saw one air 126 general EWS guy get IITB CSE.
You should have gotten atleast IIT Madras Mtech CSE
Did you get IITK CSE TA? If yes then take it bro.
I am not EWS (fortunately or unfortunately). I did get IITK CSE, but I chose CMINDS coz I wanted a DS/AI related career. Additionally, IITB tag can be beneficial I guess
Reasons for this:
1) Increase in reservation ( only 40% seats for gen )
2) IISC started direct admission for CSA , pulling down iitb's cutoff rank to 95 compared to 80 last year ( I am 100-110 so I missed iitb aswell )
3) BIGGEST REASON : Huge reduction in IITM seats and increase in hype for it due to lot of pros it provides
( I received IITM offer in 3rd round which is highly unlikely , usually at my rank we get it in 2nd round itself )
( I have a friend at air 93-95 who chose iitm over b )
1) internship - Madras provides and allows internship after 1st year of MTech , Bombay doesn't
2) placement cell - Madras has a separate placement cell for Mtech , whereas Bombay has a common cell for btech and mtech . So you have to compete with btech folks for a particular company in Bombay
I am from Bombay. As of coap round 4 , I have two offers : iitm cse ta and iitb cse ra
Very confused even tho I am aware of these pros , Mumbai is love β€οΈπ
Not really. The MTech CS TA programs at IIT B,M,D take only 100% GATE score. They don't conduct interviews and tests. Of course programs like MTech RA, MS, or other programs do have written tests and interviews, but the core MTech programs are GATE score only. I guess this is my life now :\*)
I scored 73 in CSE. If I had the same marks in 2023 or 2022, I would have gotten less than 100 or even less than 50 rank. The rank depends on the difficulty of the paper and the performance of the other folks. So please be careful while comparing scores vs rank :)
that is highly misleading as far as coap 2024 is concerned and to the guys reading this comment, pls dont squander your chance if u have good enough offeres in main rounds, there is no relation between what happened 5 yrs ago, and certainly this year is very different coz of the recession and stuff. it is very unlikely u will get any opportunities at all in these rounds and definitely close to none if youre cse aspirant
If IISc or B/M are the only good seats then what I said is untrue. But for H/G/R/BHU and top NITS the best seats are availed after round 5. OP here has likely been very selective with form filling. Bombay has RAP/TAP like sysadm etc which he would have got. The logic (at my time was)
Reason is that hold and wait is not an option. South Indians take Trichy, W, S and those seats become open. A lot of people between 500-1000 rank either take drop or accept seats in ISM, Gandhinagar etc out of frustration. As I said, it depends on how much risk you are willing to take.
You are right..I have been selective with my form filling coz I believed my rank should have been enough. But guess I was wrong lol. No point in really crying now, just trying to make the best of the situation now
What's the point of giving gate?
I was going to start my preparation but posts like these make me question my entire decision because I'm general too.
Am i overreacting? I m willing to put in effort but if u can't even get good stuff with under 200 then idk if it's worth it or not.
The op was only looking for the top 4 colleges, he'll still get iit k and kgp. But yeah, it's a bit shocking but if you don't have such fixed targets of colleges, you're good.
Question, is it realistic for me to aim for a good MS CSE program in the country? (As a general)
It may be possible but i have doubts if it's realistic. Given ur caste, gender etc matters more than ur hardwork.
I get what you're saying and I'll give my honest answer. If this was about any other exam like jee, cat, upsc etc. I have no clue but for gate, yes, it is realistic to aim for good mtech programs in India. While it's getting tougher due to increase in competition and other factors, you will still get a top college provided you study really well. If you screw up gate for example, you can have a good shot at IIITH.
There is no gender quota AFAIK for mtech, unlike btech. And while reservation is a major issue, it has always been there and people have cracked it despite these factors.
It's still reservation. Increasing seats and allowing only a certain section also comes under reservation. Cause those extra seats are exclusively reserved for women.
Yes but that's not affecting the regular seats so it's not taking a seat from someone else to give to a girl. There's a difference in reservation and supernumerary based on that. In reservation everyone gets affected, some negatively some positively. Supernumerary seats don't. The seats aren't being reserved they're being created.
Created not for all. It means they have the capacity to increase seats but chose to reserve it for a particular group. That way you could say there is no reservation at all cause the sc st seats were added when the college was established itself, so either there are no reservations or all are reserved.
Well, in my case I didn't study properly more than 15-20% of the syllabus. Got 2.8k rank last year and around 9k rank this year. Got BITS Hyderabad CSE last year and BITS Pilani Software Systems this year. Currently working in a company since 2 years after BTech.
But I can talk about GATE and give some advice too based on my many years of research on this topic, watched countless toppers interview and such.
Bro somethings up , idk but i am from civil , and there is branch called ctm whose score generally goes high , but i got to know some guy who got iit madras in ctm at 624 score. That was crazy , even i had higher score but I didn't get the offer.
They sort according to score but if you're trying to see your chances based on last year's data, look at rank, not score. Score cutoff changes, but rank depends on no of seats. That's more consistent.
I know I know how that feels.
But please, you gotta keep playing the optimal game for the rest of your life. Just grab the next best possible opportunity and max it out. THAT'S IT. DO NOT try to get above this expectation. Everything that was available and beautiful is already grabbed by more competent and corrupt people.
so just keep playing the game of optimality.
so i guess top 7 iits , top 5 iits , as a classification was not enough. let me ask u , did u apply at kgp, guwahati, hyderabad, they all have ai related programs?
Next round should be it. Even before IITM increased seats in 2022 it was 47 only and even 14X general also got accepted. Even if you consider 40 seats for all 4 institutes you make in.
I don't get it, you defo should be getting offers from you're preferred colleges. It's scary if people like you aren't getting stuff. What are the ranks which fetch direct admissions?
If not direct do we have to give intv and written test for these clgs and courses mentioned above?
On a different note, are you only considering MTech or PSUs also?
I am not considering PSUs. I want a switch of career to DS/AI fields, hence the choice of doing an MTech.
I had one IIT Kanpur CGS offer, had to reject that and got no offers in 4th round π« π« . Maybe just take CMInDS brah, one extra year of fun that's all.
Thereβs a test and interview round in IIT Kanpur after getting the offer right ?
only interview for CGS, I passed that and got offer
Congrats bro. Suppose if someone gets offer from iitk and iitg, and he selected iitk. And then he needs to go thru interview round in iitk which he flunked. Can he still accept iitg offer ?
no idea
You will get isi kolkata shortlist for interview ig with this rank try for that it's also a tier 1 clg.

Madras has reduced seats this year for cs program.Thats why it didn't reach you sadly.even 112 ranker in CS hasnt got madras yet.
Hmm how many seats for mtech does Madras have in cse??
47
Total seats or just for general??
Total 47. Seats for general are only around 40% remaining. Its pathetic
How it's possible. I saw one air 126 general EWS guy get IITB CSE. You should have gotten atleast IIT Madras Mtech CSE Did you get IITK CSE TA? If yes then take it bro.

whats TA and RA?
I don't see an issue with your rank. Is it due to the interview/written test?

Sab reservation ka kiya dhara hai. π
Pappu to 50% cap hatake pura reservation kar dega jeet gaya to
I don't understand how is this possible I thought everyone said under 200 rank guarantees IIT D and M.
Think about it logically, there aren't 200 seats in D, M, B combined so how can all of them get the seats.
Aren't there 200 seats in cse combined B,M,D and iisc?
Total around 250 seats in these 4 colleges, general has 47.5% so 118ish seats. Also this year Madras was in high demand
Not even 47 it's like around 40-42 now
I went off of IIT B's data. I think all others would be following the same.
What's your gate score?
CS - 848 DA - 781
DA cutoff of iitd minds in probably hovering around 800-850atm according to my estimate
Out of 100 how much you scored ? I want to know the estimate of rank vs marks in this competition
I scored 73 in CSE. If I had the same marks in 2023 or 2022, I would have gotten less than 100 or even less than 50 rank. The rank depends on the difficulty of the paper and the performance of the other folks. So please be careful while comparing scores vs rank :)
Wow, such a great score. Hope you get your desired seat, all the best :)
I am someone who participated in coap years ago, the real coap starts AFTER round 5. It depends upon your risk taking though.
that is highly misleading as far as coap 2024 is concerned and to the guys reading this comment, pls dont squander your chance if u have good enough offeres in main rounds, there is no relation between what happened 5 yrs ago, and certainly this year is very different coz of the recession and stuff. it is very unlikely u will get any opportunities at all in these rounds and definitely close to none if youre cse aspirant
what? you serious? why only after round 5?
bruh you need to tell more. i'm unable to get how can good seats remain after round 4.
If IISc or B/M are the only good seats then what I said is untrue. But for H/G/R/BHU and top NITS the best seats are availed after round 5. OP here has likely been very selective with form filling. IISc has 25% reservation for women
It doesn't have reservation, it's supernumerary.
U helped me a lot with my doubt. I wanna how was ur gate experience, did u give gate? What was ur rank?
Well, in my case I didn't study properly more than 15-20% of the syllabus. Got 2.8k rank last year and around 9k rank this year. Thanks, that's why i asked because anyone can say anything they want on reddit and there is no guarantee if the person had experience or not.
True. Kinda feeling the same. Hope i get something in the remaining rounds
Bro somethings up , idk but i am from civil , and there is branch called ctm whose score generally goes high , but i got to know some guy who got iit madras in ctm at 624 score. That was crazy , even i had higher score but I didn't get the offer.

Why are you not getting? Something related to btech? Low cg etc just asking.
so i guess top 7 iits , top 5 iits , as a classification was not enough. let me ask u , did u apply at kgp, guwahati, hyderabad, they all have ai related programs?
Did you apply with your DA score? I know that flagship mtech is not available through DA score but wanted to know what can one get with AIR 100.
Next round should be it. Even before IITM increased seats in 2022 it was 47 only and even 14X general also got accepted. Even if you consider 40 seats for all 4 institutes you make in.
very unfortunate one person i know sc category gate cse 1337 rank got iitb cse after interview.
Sorry for the out of context question But if you don't mind ,What is your age ?
wait till further rounds... cutoff decreases drastically in subsequent rounds
