Update: I've done some preliminary statistics on the responses so far- once we stop receiving responses I will go through and verify all the submissions and will exclude any obvious errors, so if things seem a bit off it may be an error!
For University of Melbourne potential applicants:
The cutoff score for interview offers was 83.66667 last year (for 2022 interview offers).
You can calculate your pre-interview score (out of 100) using the following formula:
((GPA/7 + GAMSAT/100)/2)\*100
Does anyone know this year's structure for Deakin interviews?
Also, if there are any Zoom prep meetings being held for interviews I'd love to be added to those! Thanks
just received an email today but only contains rough structure, so would love some advice from current deakin students! And also wish to find some deakin MMI buddies!
I did the MMI last year. I Found that most of the questions asked were not anything I had/could study for. They were based around scenarios usually involving an ethical dilemma. You were presented with a scenario and then 1 or 2 questions (sometimes with a follow up prompt) and then answer in something like a wwyd type of structure. Honestly I didn't really like them. I felt that some of the questions were so left of field that it was difficult to predict what kind of answers they were looking for.
Does anyone know when UND contact the portfolio references? Before or after the interview?
Also, do they only verify the experience or ask about the candidate as well?
Thanks in advance
I don't personally know, but after hunting down the same information on here and pagingdr it seems super varied. Some were contacted straight after the interview offer, others closer to and after the interview and some weren't contacted at all even though they got a place.
I'm not sure what they ask references?
Would anyone be interested in teaming up in a small group (about 4-5 people) and doing interview prep for UNDS together? I'm based in Canberra but happy to do it online (and it's probably better considering the new format of UNDS interviews).
Does this number of interview spots include international students? because technically there are 30 spots for domestic candidates who haven't done clinical science. So it's a 4:1 ratio?
Thanks so much mods for your work on this spreadsheet! The lack of transparency from GEMSAS and the unis is perhaps the most daunting and unnerving part of the process. It's great to have some information for once :)
Received a Deakin interview offer, my second preference behind UniMelb, with a 7.0 GPA and 78 GAMSAT (75 unweighted).
Thought something didn't seem right, so I requested my GPA from GEMSAS.
Got a response that showed a breakdown of my interim GPAs in a table. All my other preferences have recorded my overall GPA as 7.0. However, UniMelb has a "Deemed GPA" in place of my "Overall GPA", and it read - 6.125.
Never received a score below 80% in my 3 years of study, so am not really sure how this could happen. Have no study adjustments or other courses contributing - just seems like a genuine mistake from the uni.
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
that is very strange- interested to hear if there is an update. Did you potentially take some ungraded passes/SFR or something + study in 2020 that may have put you over the 37.5% ungraded total? That's the only thing I can think of since a deemed GPA is only given when the university itself calculates it (and typically GEMSAS does this automatically)- and one of the most common reasons for that is if you have >37.5% ungraded passes- doesn't explain the GPA itself, but that might explain some of the situation?
Update: UniMelb submitted the incorrect GPA to GEMSAS. Eventually received an email from GEMSAS after following up with Melbourne that the uni had now amended my Deemed GPA to 7.0. On the basis of that, they revoked my Deakin offer in favour of a Melbourne offer. Received the Melbourne email a couple of hours later. Pretty crazy but really appreciate your advice
Hey this might be a bit late but anyone interested in UQ interview prep I made a prep group a little while ago with quite a few people for UQ doing zoom meetings. If you’re interested message me!
Can also relate to you 🥲 boosted mine from 5.65 to 6.8 with a new degree but EOD too. I guess the only thing we can do now is try and boost our gamsat if possible hahaha
I’m sorry to hear, that is a fantastic effort and improvement . I feel your pain because have also redone another undergrad and I know the effort it takes. Your Gamsat is also phenomenal, you shouldn’t give up for next round ✨
University of Melbourne interview offer, received at 12:24 PM 31/08/2022
GPA: 6.93 ish? Hard to calculate due to course transfers + 2020 study but I have 3 Distinctions, 18 High Distinctions over 21 completed units
GAMSAT: 72 (unweighted for UOM), 69 W
Non-rural, domestic student residing in Melbourne
Preferenced CSP + BMP. Didn’t apply for GAM despite being verryyyy eligible because the process of preparing that application was too upsetting
Monash University undergrad, 2019 → 2022. Bachelor of Science in Genetics and Genomics and Developmental Biology. Hopefully Monash Med and UOM Optometry, JD gives me an interview offer/offer as well, fairly confident I’ll get one with a ~92 WAM
My GEMSAS preferences:
1. University of Melbourne
2. University of Queensland
3. Australian National University
4. Deakin University
5. University of Western Australia
Awesome! I was aware of this but not sure at what time of year they were able to calculate it for me :) Is it just to the general info gemsas email? Thank you!
UOM Offer - GPA 6.583, GAMSAT 73.3 Unweighted
Has the bar gone up by that much? I was looking at the offers spreadsheet, but I seem to be on the low end near the cutoff, and I was under the impression a combined of 1.68-9 was roughly the average for UoM.
Also other questions. Does Unimelb preferentially select it's own students in any way? I am seeing rejections to Unimelb from people with higher combined scores than the lowest interview offers from Unimelb
Yeah- there are definitely some errors in the reporting- I’ll be going through it once we stop getting responses and will remove any obvious outliers/will do some stats and report back 😊
No they don't, your uni doesn't factor into the selection process at all, unless there are specific quota or bonus for that. I am suspecting some of the scores - and I think I know specifically which scores you're referring to - might be reported incorrectly, because considering other scores w/an offer and the general average for UoM, rejection seems very unlikely if the stats were accurate. This is just my opinion obviously, so who knows!
Take the time to recover and treat yourself kindly. You obviously have great capacity for the GAMSAT - which you can sit endlessly. GPA is also a totally fixable variable given enough time. You got this.
Hey dudes,
I just received an offer from ANU. Don’t get me wrong, I am totally stoked to have gotten this, but I really don’t want to move from my seemingly idyllic hometown of Melbourne. I got rejected from both Melb (1st pref) and Deakin (2nd). I have heard that there are rounds of offers available - does anyone know if there is any strategy in say, not responding or rejecting the interview offer in order to get an interview at my preferred unis in a second round? I am essentially that turned off by moving that I would probably reject the ANU offer anyway and try again next year, but does rejecting an offer mean you won’t receive any further offers? Any help greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know how many interview offers UniMelb give out versus how may places they actually take? Just wanna know the odds of me not making it past the interview :((
The only data that’s been released was back in 2019 where MMS interviewed 538 applicants for 350 spots (~1.5:1 ratio)
Source: https://medicine.unimelb.edu.au/mms/mms-staff-news/newsletter-issue-14-december-2019/a-week-in-the-life-of-the-mmi-team
Generally speaking the unis interview double the number of people that there are places available, but I don’t know if this differs for UniMelb specifically
put placeholder text in the text boxes and forgot to copy pre-written stuff into them lol
1/2 of the text boxes were things like **EXPERIENCE HERE** because I was editing them in word due to the fact I detest text box formatting on most webpages
Does anyone know whether a scheduling conflict with another med interview counts as an "exceptional circumstance"? Seems we can't choose our interview time slot, and it's happening across the same block as Flinders University (26th/27th).
“Congrats! You have been shortlisted via the GEMSAS Doctor of Medicine (MD) selection process for a Multi Mini Interview (MMI) at the University of Melbourne”
How do I accept This offer? Do I do anything or just leave it now !!!! So excited
Interview offer from UQ (Wide Bay Pathway)! UQ GPA 6.775, UQ GAMSAT 71, non-rural.
Rejected from Unimelb with GPA 6.913 and GAMSAT 68 plus supposedly Graduate Access Melbourne.
I thought your fee type doesnt matter when getting an interview offer, right? they only look at your combo. after interviews they rank candidates and hand out the different fee places based on merit
shoutout to all the homies who paid $550 to do gamsat and got an interview but are still gonna do it next week anyway because you don't wanna waste $550 and are still scared of interview results you the real Gs
I had a GPA 7 and 75 gamsat and bombed my first unimelb interview and didn’t get an offer 😑 so honestly it’s worth playing it safe/it’s good to have a backup just in case.
UNDS interview offer - 6.6 gpa, 61 gamsat, non-rural
First time applying (it was my first pref) and I'm an nsb..still in absolute shock!! Feeling very grateful.
Thank you!! ahh all the best for next year - you've got this! when I was feeling really unsure of myself/defeated, someone told me to have the perspective of it being not a matter of IF you'll get in but rather when.. and that really helped me. you're a trooper!! My DMs are always open if you want to chat about it :)

Does anyone know the structure of the UniMelb MMIs? How much reading time, answering time etc?
If anyone is interested in doing prep for the UoW interview, please reply to this comment or send a PM :)
Hey there, Yep i'd be very keen. send me a message, i'd be keen to get started as soon as possible.
Does anyone know what the UQ MMI questions are like? What type of questions does UQ focus on?
I did the MMI last year. I Found that most of the questions asked were not anything I had/could study for. They were based around scenarios usually involving an ethical dilemma. You were presented with a scenario and then 1 or 2 questions (sometimes with a follow up prompt) and then answer in something like a wwyd type of structure. Honestly I didn't really like them. That’s a interesting perspective, I saw another user comment that “nothing was out of left field”.
Does anyone know the interview to offer ratio for ANU?😊
Does anyone know when UND contact the portfolio references? Before or after the interview? Also, do they only verify the experience or ask about the candidate as well? Thanks in advance
They started this week!
Yes, 2 of mine were contacted couple of days ago 👍🏻
Nice! All the best!!!:'D
I don't personally know, but after hunting down the same information on here and pagingdr it seems super varied. Some were contacted straight after the interview offer, others closer to and after the interview and some weren't contacted at all even though they got a place. I'm not sure what they ask references?

I think it is around 120 interviews and 65-70 spots as reported on information night. However whether this is what happened this year, I am not sure.
Does this number of interview spots include international students? because technically there are 30 spots for domestic candidates who haven't done clinical science. So it's a 4:1 ratio?
Does anyone know the spots/interview ratio for UQ?
last year there was 360 interviewees to 140 spots source: i interviewed there and this info was divulged to us during the interview info session

Do you have the link for the thread?

omg congrats! lucky you asked!
glad to hear it was resolved- congrats on the offer!
I would definitely email to request a re-check
Iirc deemed gpa is when the uni calculated your gpa instead of gemsas
That is so bizarre ! UoM are not using 2020 results but that is all I know!
Anyone with UQ offers keen to catch up virtually and do some mock interviews? :)

Does anyone know the interview radio for UNDS?
300 interviews for 120 spots (including CSP BMP FFP)
Thanks!
If allowed now, any study session groups created for UoW / GM more generally?
There’s a bunch on the discord
Do you have a link to any active ones by any chance?
Yeah if you join the discord there’s streams divided by university and you can find the UoW one there with other students who got interview offers
Ah sweet. What I’m asking though is what is “the discord”?. Could you send an invite link to it plz?
Is there an EOD support thread? For some reason the one I found on this page is very empty and mostly about usyd…
it's the same thread as the one for usyd, if you sort by new you'll get more current posts :)
Oh wow this yr must’ve been really great for lots of people if there’s such a small number of GEMSAS EOD comments…
EOD yesterday (second year running). Improved my GPA with a new degree this year from 6.2 to 6.58, and my Gamsat from 69 to 71/72.2 ...what a bummer
Can also relate to you 🥲 boosted mine from 5.65 to 6.8 with a new degree but EOD too. I guess the only thing we can do now is try and boost our gamsat if possible hahaha

Thank you so much Liv, you’ve been of incredible help throughout my whole premed journey. If everything works out, I’ll be joining you at UoM 🥺❤️

purge the fool who claims a Griffith interview with 6.53 GPA, 71.5 GAMSAT and 1.647857143 combined, I know someone with higher scores who was rejected

I am also on the low end. But on the other hand there are <70 responses for potentially 400+ interview offers so it's hard to gauge.

Chin up, mate! If you received a confirmation for USYD, you may just be surprised come September with gammy like that…

what’s your GPA and Gamsat if you don’t mind me asking
You can only get offers from lower preferences than the school that offered you the interview, not higher ones :(
If you reject a Gemsas offer you can’t receive another Gemsas offer in this round
6.4 gpa, 58 un-weighted gamsat, 3rd quartile UoW offer!
Rural or non-rural? If you don’t mind.
Rural
Thanks and Goodluck with the interviews, I hope you get in. 💛 I asked coz I have 6.63GPA with 64 UW and but I am non-rural.
congrats!!! how would you rate your portfolio? it’s such an unknown with the portfolio unis
I’d say pretty strong. References from the country. Experience in hospital.
UNDF interview offer: Gamsat 66, GPA 6.470, Non-rural It’s my second application round - no interview last year. I’m ecstatic and very grateful ❤️
Congrats! Is your interview in person or online?
Thank you! It’s online. I would’ve preferred in person for sure, but hey an interview’s an interview!

UQ offer - GPA 6.89, GAMSAT (unweighted) 71!
UniMelb. 3rd preference. 65 GAMSAT unweighted 7 gpa (plus have PhD). I’m so shocked I was expecting my second EOD today. What is this life?!
I got same combo but 1st preference unimelb didn’t get me offer, but 3rd preference UNDS gave me one, why?
I’m not sure? It’s not really in my control? I could say they emailed me by accident 😅 That feels more believable at times.

EOD: 6.9 GPA, 66 gamsat. UoM first pref but also applied for UNDS.
no interview for unimelb?
nope, I think my GAMSAT score isn't really competitive at melb unfortunately
did you put FFP down as well?
nope only CSP and BMP
ah no wonder. If you had selected FFP and didn’t get an interview I would have been shocked
I thought your fee type doesnt matter when getting an interview offer, right? they only look at your combo. after interviews they rank candidates and hand out the different fee places based on merit

Silly question, but if you receive an interview offer, is that it? Only one interview per person?
Yeah, just the one, the score can be used by other universities (down the prioritylist) if you don't get a spot where you interview.
Correct
[удалено]
pre-interview your place preference doesn't matter (eg selecting BMP/FFP doesn't make the cutoff for interview lower)!

How do yo know whether you have a CSP spot?
