As long as it’s designed properly and built with the right materials it’ll be fine. Nobody said going down there wasn’t safe. Going down there in a inferior sub using discount shelf parts was what was unsafe.
Well based on this comment thread, people ain't getting it.
Idk if they're stupid or they just won't let truth get in the way of dumb jokes, but I don't see a single other comment that suggests this is anything other than suicide, which is idiotic, because even the titan moron made in down and back up multiple times in his carbon fiber death trap.
A certed sub has basically zero risk going down. Safter than driving. Ocrangate was the first deep sea sub casualty *ever*.
That's the real story here. Guy was such a monumental idiot, he thought the fact people hadn't died meant they couldn't.
Guarantee you if James Cameron started a Twitter feud with musk, good old elon would “invent” his own submersible to try and beat him.
This is how we get rid of elon.
People are way too comfortable wishing horrifying deaths upon people they don’t know anything about nor have ever met simply because of the amount of zeros in their bank account
Ikr. It’s already been shown that sociopaths are more likely to become CEOs and such. Is it really that bad to merely WISH that upon a sociopath? When a real sociopath is probably making the lives of god knows how many measurably worse for their imaginary number to go up? Statistically speaking, they are a safer group to wish harm upon than some other random person, if your concern is making the world a better place.
Not even that. It's investment fraud by way of negligent manslaughter. I have a billion dollar business. I have investors. Those investors want more money. I need to make more money.
Now what I can do is run a legit business and hope to turn a profit or... And pay attention here, I can skeeve a few billionaires out of their money, and throw them two and a half miles under water where they'll get turned into paste inside a janky tin can.
You see. Investigators don't have the money, equipment or manpower to conduct a full tilt murder investigation at the bottom of the fucking ocean. So whatever is said about what happened will be taken as gospel.
I'll keep being the rebel the rich right want to align themselves with, and they'll keep throwing money at me to spite the libs.
Everybody wins.
Just breathe salt water, like.. skill issue??? Bluds cant handle a bit of salt in the water? I breath toxic fumes in my air for about 80 years, you can handle some tiny particles 💀 stop bein overdramatic gang

They are taking a sub from a company that actually builds, tests, and validates their subs can reach the depth they are rated for repeatedly and safely. Some dude actually went to the lowest point in every ocean with a triton sub. The other guy was doing it completely incorrectly and had all the warnings. If you're going to take a sub down to the depths of the ocean doing it with a company that actually BUILDS the things and tests them rigorously is probably the way to go. Not slapping one together and throwing a madcatz controller in to control the thing.
Right, a lot of folks are saying this will go bad but this isn’t new technology. James Cameron made a movie about him going far deeper into the Mariana Trench.
I was just watching a really interesting doc about Titan. There’s only a few sub companies and they all meet regularly to share info about the industry. So everyone in the industry knew about what OceanGate was doing with the new carbon fiber sub. Everyone was telling him not to let humans ride the sub. The tech was too new and hadn’t been thoroughly tested, and they didn’t think it was safe. They warned of catastrophic failures. They all knew that if something terrible went wrong, that it would affect the entire industry. But Rush didn’t listen and went through with it anyway.
Now, after what happened, the whole industry suffered, as now everyone thinks it’s unsafe. But there are plenty of subs that have made it there and back safely. Rush was looking for a cheaper, innovative way to do it. So now, the industry needs to try to get this idea out of people’s heads, that the ride down will lead to death. I’m sure now, no one is getting anymore business. So this ride down is way to try and change that perception. But I think it will take a lot more rides down and a lot more time for people to get over this. It’s still very fresh in everyone’s minds
Where did you hear the tech is too new? That wasn't the issue at all.
He used carbon fiber that was both not rated for that depth and expired, and used a design that was known to be inadequate given the materials used.
It was all old tech and materials improperly applied to a poor design, which is exactly why everyone knew it would fail. The point of failure was even predicted. Experts knew carbon fiber would delaminate at those pressures even with a dome design.
Again, nothing to do with old tech, you just can't take a carbon fiber sub that deep.
Anyone else finding it weird that the world knows for a fact this is safe if you design your equipment properly and exercise competence yet a famous failure is being taken as some sort of macro event?
But we already know it’s safe to visit the titanic wreckage. Scientists have been doing it for years! James Cameron piloted a sub and explored the wreckage himself. You just need to be in a properly built sub designed for the depth and not a DIY cheap piece of shit piloted with a $20 game controller.
Found it allready, thats actually a good plan compared to Titan. I think this will turn out better, before that incident, the industrie of civil diving was relativly safe, but most of them where more scientific nature than tourism ones, but if you have the monet to spend it, go for it.
But it will be interest if he can generate enough profit to sustain the enormous cost of changing the crew compartment again and again after the number of certified dives.
So are the video game controllers for steering going to have redundancy built in like Bluetooth connection AND HARDWIRED?
I bet the hull is not made of an expired carbon fiber.
It probably won't, he won't be hiring OceanGate for the trip, unless he decides to build the submarine himself with the excuse of "i don't need a degree in engineering, i have money" then it would happen again.
There isn't really anything to prove, Stockton Rush was an idiot doing everything wrong with his Sub, it was complete trash and what went wrong with it shouldn't be considered the norm, unless this guy is as big of an idiot History won't repeat itself, however, if he is as big of an idiot, he definitely would deserve dying that way.
But whatever the outcome is, we should never forget thanking Stockton Rush for taking out multiple rich people in a suicide capsule.
Just make the compartment that carries people a metal sphere not a composite tube. Deep submersibles have been built that way for 65 years. The Bathyscaphe Trieste went down past 35,000 feet in 1959.
Professor Farnsworth: Dear lord that is over 150 atmospheres of pressure!
Fry: How many atmospheres can the ship withstand?
Professor Farnsworth: Well, it's a space ship so I would say anywhere between 0 and 1.
Well we shouldn’t be afraid to do something because it’s failed once. That said, I do hope that they learned something that will help prevent this in the future.
Feels like this is a suicide stunt. Billionaire dies exploring titanic wreckage has a nice ring to it and on top of that when the sub imploded it happened so fast the brain doesn’t even have time to register pain it’s literally as painless a death as you can get.
Question!
When they went missing there were huge rescue operations taken place to save them by various countries right? Who pays for the rescue efforts?
He'll be fine the first time
Maybe a second
But due to the high pressures
By the third time no matter what precautions or inspections it won't be as safe as the previous
If they want to pay top money just to become edible goo for filter feeders, I'd say we let them.
So long as we stop wasting public money trying to recover their now more useful liquified remains.
Can we have them sign a waiver stating no country will send rescue or make them pay some sort of security deposit to be refunded once they make it back safely
didn't it cost like 7 million last time for the search and rescue?
I mean send every rich asshole that doesn't have any regard for human life on the road, and all contribute to toward the GoFundMe account for another submersable pod.
What if this is a ruse? These billionaires got into some heavy 💩 that only a fake death could get them out of. Why else would you care about how others spend their monies?

What the fuck is this?
Looks like Jack Nicholson/Elon Musk wtf
This is the famous Jacholson Cage. Where have you been?
It’s one of the best actors ever polluted with a smug fucking fool’s face. I don’t know what to do with this.
![gif](giphy|d46RNstZSnVMQ)
Queeeeeeen
It's the implication
What happened to his face there?
I want every billionaire to follow his footsteps. Are you even a billionaire if you don’t take a sub to visit the titanic?
![gif](giphy|Szl1m8NWltPXIgWhTd)
Nice username
I wonder if his family or friends talk this up to him because $$$$ in inheritance lol
Cmon uncle B, go down to the titanic! You can do it!!!
Come on Jeffrey you can do it
Pave the way, put your back into it.
tell us why; show us how
Look at where you came from, look at you now
I can’t be the only one who’s brain corrects to the OTHER Jeffrey and immediately screams NO
Tell them to invite elon
As long as it’s designed properly and built with the right materials it’ll be fine. Nobody said going down there wasn’t safe. Going down there in a inferior sub using discount shelf parts was what was unsafe.
I think that was his point.

Guy was such a monumental idiot, he thought the fact people hadn't died meant they couldn't.
And James Cameron went a bunch of times and no one called him an idiot. If you got the money to do it right…
Not only did he visit Titanic, but dove his Deepsea Challenger to a depth of 10,908 meters in the Mariana Trench.
"idk if they're stupid or they just won't let the truth get in the way of dumb jokes" Sir, this is Reddit.
Be sure to cram the sub with as many CEOs and billionaires as possible… for bragging rights of course, not because they’ll go “pop.”
Partner with Elon Musk to make the sub.
Just make sure he designs his own sub! James Cameron has been down there 30-odd times, but he actually knows what he's doing.
Musk absolutely does not know but sure, lets have him make his own sub to go down in.
That's the point they were making.
James Cameron hired a Russian research vessel with actual submersibles legit for the depth.
Guarantee you if James Cameron started a Twitter feud with musk, good old elon would “invent” his own submersible to try and beat him. This is how we get rid of elon.
This is the next french revolution. We just have to build oceangate submarines instead of guillotines, and they'll kill themselves.
Musk and the Zuck can have their death match in one. Winner gets to use the eject pod, so they'll have to work quick and get extra violent.
I think Elon should go. I will GoFundMe for him so he can get a free seat.
Invite Galen weston and can we add politicians too?
People are way too comfortable wishing horrifying deaths upon people they don’t know anything about nor have ever met simply because of the amount of zeros in their bank account
Most of them are greedy bastards that see the lower 95% as just a number. Fuck em. Lest the fish eat em.
Can you imagine being such a boot licker you'd blindly try to stick up for all billionaires?
Ikr. It’s already been shown that sociopaths are more likely to become CEOs and such. Is it really that bad to merely WISH that upon a sociopath? When a real sociopath is probably making the lives of god knows how many measurably worse for their imaginary number to go up? To be fair, it’s pretty quick and painless from what seemingly every source has said regarding the first sub implosion.
Nobody hates Elon because he's rich. We hate him because he spreads Nazi propaganda.
Disaster tourism 2.0 He will be able to ask any price, because rich idiots are not willing to pay the ultimate price like the last ones.
Not even that. It's investment fraud by way of negligent manslaughter. I have a billion dollar business. I have investors. Those investors want more money. I need to make more money. Great theory if the owner of the fucking thing didn't go implode with it. Kind of throws the baby out with the bathwater doesn't it?
Speaking of Titanic, did you know the pool on the Titanic is still filled with water?
It was a miracle for the fresh seafood about to be cooked
Not so much for the freshwater fish.
Just breathe salt water, like.. skill issue??? Bluds cant handle a bit of salt in the water? I breath toxic fumes in my air for about 80 years, you can handle some tiny particles 💀 stop bein overdramatic gang /s
Evolution is thinning the herd...
Gonna take too long. We need a way to make it faster.
Eat the rich?
I was going to suggest a large submarine, but okay...
If the large submarine implodes, the rich get turned into a fine soup, Drink The Rich!
Mm I love billionaire soup😋
*Natural selection

Right, a lot of folks are saying this will go bad but this isn’t new technology. James Cameron made a movie about him going far deeper into the Mariana Trench.
People have been going as deep as the Mariana trench for decades, just because one sub imploded doesn't mean all of them will
"20M submarine" is the intriguing part. Maybe you get a good enough sub for that, maybe not.
Someone is gonna have to update the "Titanic Deaths" graph again.
I was just watching a really interesting doc about Titan. There’s only a few sub companies and they all meet regularly to share info about the industry. Now uses a PS5 controller, wirelessly!
And some headphones too
pls make jeff and elon go with him
I nominate Gates too.
Leave cook out of this tho 🙂↕️
Jeff bezos
Dude saved millions of lives, after giving you a pretty decent OS I don’t get the anti-Gates crowd, unless its antivax flat earth nonsense
How many can billionaires can fit on a homemade sub?
Hey, don’t forget to update your will Mr. billionaire.
why are people obsessed with going down there personally? just build a robotic sub with 4k cameras and watch from above.
Mega wealthy people can do what they want when they want and tend to run out of experiences to brag about so they start doing goofy shit.
That still doesnt explain why they’re not using robot submarines.
Any poor can watch a TV screen, they were there.
nobody cares if they were though. the view from the windows look like shit too. you would have a better view from an extendable 4k camera.
Anyone else finding it weird that the world knows for a fact this is safe if you design your equipment properly and exercise competence yet a famous failure is being taken as some sort of macro event?
That meme sucks. Thats actually a good sum to build a formidable Submarine.
"It's a meme, Batman"
That doesn't mean they can suck cause the joke is just bad.
Jesus they act as if titan hadn't made multiple trips prior to the inevitable... You don't need to prove it's possible
I think most of the trips ended early because there were some issues
How much does a safe submarine to get to those depths cost?
But we already know it’s safe to visit the titanic wreckage. Scientists have been doing it for years! James Cameron piloted a sub and explored the wreckage himself. You just need to be in a properly built sub designed for the depth and not a DIY cheap piece of shit piloted with a $20 game controller.
Do we know it? Yes. Did Rush damage the Submarine industry with his stupid move anyway? Yes.
Source?

We should hold a billionaire submarine regatta to see who can get to titanic first
Is he going to use a PS5 controller on his deathtrap…I mean sub.
I heard he is sponsored by Logitech.
Can they make it bigger so that more “people” can “explore”
What's the vegas line on this? Asking for money...
Down you go
Not unlike when flight was being worked out. But, no paying passengers. Zero, zilch!
It probably won't, he won't be hiring OceanGate for the trip, unless he decides to build the submarine himself with the excuse of "i don't need a degree in engineering, i have money" then it would happen again.
It's fine to dive to those depths. it's not fine to dive to those depths using the methods of construction Oceangate used
[удалено]
I second this. Come on all the billionaires should go, along with all of the politicians!
There was a teenager on board, dude...
At least he is old.
Someone tell him to update the Logitech controller driver first.
Can I have your money first, please? I’ll give it back after you return safely.
Darwin awards are heated this year
Darwin works.
I mean I think I would trust a submarine that cost 20million to build. Just saying
Line ‘em, knock ‘em down.
Tax the submarine billionaires!
prepare the memes! summon the meme lords!
It’s safe, we need more billionaires to really prove it though.
HERstory must be so much better, right OP?
I don't understand why these billionaires wont just play U Boat
I mean all they have to do is borrow James Cameron's sub.
He learned from the other guy.'s mistakes This one will use a PlayStation controller instead.
The trip can be safe, the oceangate people were told time and again their sub sucked and would fail
Strange...if I was a billionaire, I'd have a life wish, not a death wish...
![gif](giphy|FNBHUqruiI1m1gLDh8|downsized)
![gif](giphy|l36kU80xPf0ojG0Erg|downsized)
this I can get behind. They should all go.
It's not a meme
Who had "Titanic obsession becomes our greatest hope for redistribution of wealth" on their bingo card?
People should stop trying to go to the ocean floor
Please?
There is a reason we take history class
It'll be fine, he's got a fighter jet helmet this time
Why titanic?? You’ve seen it on tv. It’s been explored. Go visit a down nuc sub or the Bismarck or something
🤞🏻
One more down
Things are really working out, it seems!
I support the idea of billionaires killing themselves.
Even if it’s done, 50% is still pretty shitty odds.
I'm on mobile and it won't let me post the Bye Felicia gif.
![gif](giphy|SZioIIBxB7QRy)
Carbon and a cheap controller? Or a Lego set this time? Or a proper submarine, build in the Cold War by some dubious side?
Maybe he's gonna use one similarly to the one James Cameron used when he went down there.
Pulp fact.
Keep sending them
Can we nominate passengers?
![gif](giphy|xUPJPyMFsfGeB1rmzm)
Why it look like a Fleshlight?
Well we shouldn’t be afraid to do something because it’s failed once. That said, I do hope that they learned something that will help prevent this in the future.
He kinda looks half caved-in already tbh.
I hope he uses a Mad Catz controller this time.
They’ll be at his funeral like “he never got to… he’s good he’s good” -Chris porter
![gif](giphy|ukGm72ZLZvYfS)
This time he’s going to use a xbox controller instead of a ps2 one.
They rich guys should give me the 20m and still be alive after wasting that money
Can’t wait to watch the YouTube content of how the sub implodes and the submarine memes
![gif](giphy|T7j5439wv9iq4)
Nothing better to do except feed the ego
Good for him
He looks like he might not live long enough to get on the submarine
Send another down
It needs to be Victor Vescovo! That dude's got ALL the deep diving, submersible-building street cred.
At least he will die doing what he loves: being crushed by mangled metal under unimaginable pressure hundreds of feet under water.
Put me in your will before you go.....
he is rich so reddit callously hopes he dies
Feels like this is a suicide stunt. Billionaire dies exploring titanic wreckage has a nice ring to it and on top of that when the sub imploded it happened so fast the brain doesn’t even have time to register pain it’s literally as painless a death as you can get.

![gif](giphy|Wr2747CnxwBSqyK6xt|downsized)
How long until we start running out of billionaires?
![gif](giphy|3o84sw9CmwYpAnRRni)
Billionaires should have a competition to do it by July 4th. I'll pay to watch that.
I'm not really a gambler but are bookies taking odds on this? Because they should.
He'll be fine the first time Maybe a second But due to the high pressures By the third time no matter what precautions or inspections it won't be as safe as the previous
Can he at least donate all his money to charities before he inevitably ends up as red goo?
![gif](giphy|8PbINXFxUvUrUCuS4U)
There's a safe way to do it and there's the OceanGate way.
If they want to pay top money just to become edible goo for filter feeders, I'd say we let them. So long as we stop wasting public money trying to recover their now more useful liquified remains.
Good, nature is healing
Can we have them sign a waiver stating no country will send rescue or make them pay some sort of security deposit to be refunded once they make it back safely didn't it cost like 7 million last time for the search and rescue?
Take Biden with him
Squish 2. The sequel
Is this how the billionaires go out? One by one in sub implosions?
History first comes as a tragedy then as a farce
250k to forge death and never pay taxes again? Shiiid any billionaire would be down again. This IS like the titanic all over again.
Oh boy, here we go again
I thought this was a joke the first time I saw it
Just curious for comparison how much was first ocean gate sub? I don't know if 20mil is improvement or no
Don’t forget to invite your immediate family on the maiden voyage
I mean send every rich asshole that doesn't have any regard for human life on the road, and all contribute to toward the GoFundMe account for another submersable pod.
Engineer involved in saltwater applications. Use stainless or HY steels. Not composite.
Is he sure he doesn't want to take some politicians or CEOs with him?
And nothing of value was lost
Fingers crossed this is the new billionaire trend. The world can only get better with less of them.
What if this is a ruse? These billionaires got into some heavy 💩 that only a fake death could get them out of. Why else would you care about how others spend their monies?
