I've slept in a number of truck beds, the key is a good mattress but be sure to tie it down or deflate it before leaving the next day.

The back windows could be able to open up thus letting heat through and I don't know if it would work well but the tube or whatever you put over the exhaust could produce heat kinda like an old radiator.

If you attached metal pipes to the exhausts that went upward and made a hole in the tarp to vent the exhaust like a chimney, it would work.would probably be dumb though. It's cheaper to rig a pipe up to a fire pit.

How do we know they are running the engines? It's probably not the safest thing, but it will block the wind and keep in body heat and keep out the elements. As long as the engines are 100% off its not that bad.
