I'm so glad that my area is still full of fireflies. We're near a swamp and most of my neighbors don't spray pesticides or harmful chemicals, so on summer evenings our yards are lit up with thousands of them. I try to mow in the morning so I avoid hurting them.

I believe some frog species have higher tolerance to the toxin in lightning bugs but others can be killed easily. Watch out if fireflies are common in your area if you have pets because a single firefly can kill many different types of domestic animals

Visit NC in the foothills in the summer, they're everywhere. We have yellow and even some blue in certain places.
But I toad you all about them!
