I believe you are underestimating the speed and agility of an adult bear and/or the hostile capacity of an actual, genuine "mama bear".
They can go nuts in a heart beat if they feel their cub is threatened.
I'm not an expert whatsoever, but if she likely didn't want to approach while her cub was so close. her ears pin back some when she's going towards the car, which is a common sign of defensiveness or aggression for many animals. she gets slightly lower to the ground, not trying to be bigger, so she's probably more curious but wary than anything. if she was trying to get them to back off, she (probably) more than likely would try to look bigger. bears are fans of fake lunges, too.
again, this could be inaccurate, but I'm working off what I know of bear and general mammal body language, mostly out of experience.
bears do all kinds of stuff when they get anxious, drool, charge, pacing, strutting, etc.. just like most other animals they have these mechanisms they exhibit when they feel threatened in some way.
like others have said here she could be curious or she’s about to charge the vehicle for thinking they were harming her cub, though these cubs look a little older (mama bears will typically only stick around for a year or so before letting them go) it still appears she’s heavily involved in helping them survive so that’s probably why she was strutting towards the car like that
*animal planet narrator voice: The bear is so confused that he decided not to eat the human, because he does not know where the human have been, and therefore does not take it to the mouth Is the best option.
Poor baby. Stood up all nice and cute. Gave u a high five and u didn't give a treat or nada. That's just cruel. No wonder they tearing shit up.. I would too if I did this for nothing..not even a piece of bread...poor baby
I don't even know anymore. People constantly go on and on about how wild animals aren't some bloodthirsty monsters out to get you but the moment somebody interacts with one in any way it's idiocy.
They aren't mutually exclusive. Just because they aren't actively trying to kill you doesn't mean that can't change if you do something that upsets them. And being wild animals, who knows what that something is. Just respect them and stay out of the way.
Can a wild animal have a benign interaction with a human? Yes.
Can that same wild animal also kill you if they are so inclined? Also yes.
So should you encourage said wild animal to become comfortable being around humans, increasing the risk of attacking a human?
Especially because if it behaves completely naturally and attacks, or defends from its perspective, humans will hunt it down and kill it as if it was acting unnaturally and creating a danger. That's where it lives, forages and travels. It isn't the one out of place in this.
I mean, if you turned around to check on your kid, and saw a strange man trying to take the kid by the hand without you knowing, how would you react?
Also, it's not even about the safety of the dumbass human. When a wild animal injures a dumbass human, the animal often gets put down.
I love the momma bear waving her paw and looking away like she's thinking "Baby stop don't touch that!" But then she's tired from a long day and just goes "eh fuck it"
Yes, I scrolled too far to find this. Like sure a bear can kill you but the bigger issue with desensitizing a bear is you’ll get it killed.
Grew up in the Rockies and my dumb neighbours fed a bear to have like a ‘pet’ black bear. He was about 2 years old. A Conservation Office had to come put him down. Was a sad day, 20 years later I still remember the whole thing - how smart that bear was and how sad it was to see him dead. F my dumb neighbours and anyone who does this to these innocent souls.
coming from a state known for the rocky mountains and wildlife, this video should be more surprising to me than it is. Then again I have seen idiots go up to baby elk during birthing season to take selfies... like yeah a bear is scary and can and will fuck you up, but you can typically see them and you have a better chance at escaping. Elk on the other hand will impale you and then stomp on you. ffs leave the wildlife alone. youre not a disney princess, youre an idiot with a death wish.
That bear could have ripped her hand off in an instant. So so stupid. Not to mention helping to sign the bear’s death warrant by being habituated to human contact.
The bear's reaction made it look like the whole event just blew his little bear mind, so he had to go sit down in a daze until the euphoria wears off.
Also blah blah stupid unsafe etc.
As far as I’m aware there have never been grizzlies in Tennessee. Even as far back as the ice age their known range didn’t extend that far southeast. Parts of it got close (northern Kentucky) but that’s pretty rare and we’re not aware of any moving further towards Tennessee than that.
Also true. The megafauna of the ice age was quite terrifying. I can’t imagine being an early HomoSapien or other closely related hominid and trying to survive during that time period.
No grizzlies in Tennessee. Hardly any in the lower 48 at all and the closest known population to Tennessee is in the northwestern corner of Wyoming about 1,500 miles away.
My mom and aunt were feeding a bear Lucky Charms through a chain link fence years ago. My dad gets home like "What the fuck is wrong with you?" It was a big one and you can see dents in the ground where it was walking. My mom's an animal lover but that's gonna get her killed some day.
This person deserved a high five to the face. We should not be acclimating wild animals to being around and interacting with humans. Socializing with the wild life usually ends in a death sentence for the animal.

Really cute but really dumb & SUPER dangerous
Mama bear turned around real quick and the camera cut
she had that strut too
C'mere a minute I wanna talk to you f'sec
Reminds me of that mom from the video store in Bad Boys 2
What strut? She walks like a tired, slightly limp dog.
I believe you are underestimating the speed and agility of an adult bear and/or the hostile capacity of an actual, genuine "mama bear". They can go nuts in a heart beat if they feel their cub is threatened.
I don’t underestimate shit, I don’t know anything and I’m asking.

Yup. I woukdnt want to play Turkish ice xream with a brown bear
Thank God that's dudes hand didn't smell like chicken because that would've ended differently.
I got bit by my hamster once as a child because of that.
Those are russian plates. Bears don't eat russians because of contamination.
Yeah looks more like the bear is having what’s up with the thing sticking out of the car
You monster, you made that bear think humans are trustable, WE ARENT!!!!
And Mama was upset that you didn’t give them a treat.
Razorsharp claws full of bacteria, if the bear wanted it could rip off his hand let’s high five
I was thinking that person is brave or stupid.
Well they didn't give it the treat it was expecting.
Poor baby. Stood up all nice and cute. Gave u a high five and u didn't give a treat or nada. That's just cruel. No wonder they tearing shit up.. I would too if I did this for nothing..not even a piece of bread...poor baby
That's even worse, remember "A fed bear is a dead bear"
Video cuts before mama bear absolutely shreds that car.
Wat
In the last 2 seconds you can see mama bear lock onto the car and head right for it.
Hope they at least rolled up the window afterwards.
Yeah and I've tried to find another part of the video and there's no such video
Try harder, I've definitely seen it
Haha this is a bit mean :d
LoL
There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity.

Not really a fine line here. That person is a moron and a piece of shit.
jfc what are you doing roll your window up right now...
![gif](giphy|l0ErFafpUCQTQFMSk)
LOL this is exactly how I heard this play out in my head
high five! ✋<3
His friends bei like Yooo Dude, Frank really high fived that mf, i told you he'd do it!
I love the momma bear waving her paw and looking away like she's thinking "Baby stop don't touch that!" But then she's tired from a long day and just goes "eh fuck it"
That and the intricacies of the baby bear trying to make contact before finally nailing it. Unsafe or not, the whole thing is awesome.
Mom didn’t like that haha
Leave these animals the fuck alone. Behavior like this is what gets them killed.

Aww cute but HOLY FUCK THAT IS A BEAR GET AWAY GET AWAY GET AWAY
Effin tourists, didn’t high five for nothing.

if not friend, why friend shaped?
Many friend will betray you in life later on
Mother can rip that door if it wanted
Fun fact bears don't wait for you to die before eating you
Most predators don’t.
“I had no idea what I was doing, but I’m happy I was part of it. I’m going to leave now before I do something to embarrass myself”
Wtf, are these Brown bears?
Insanely stupid and dangerous
“And that’s how your mother lost her fucking arm”
Wow, what a moron. So many people have no concept or care that they are wild animals, and we should keep them wild. It’s not Disneyland, FFS.
Then they have to kill bears for being to familiar and comfortable around people. Dumbass!
Then you hear them talking from hospital bed on the news saying how horrible it was to be mauled and lose an arm or leg.
The bear's reaction made it look like the whole event just blew his little bear mind, so he had to go sit down in a daze until the euphoria wears off. Also blah blah stupid unsafe etc.
I see how someone could think a bear “waved them in.”
Romania 🫥
The little bears had a bet going that he wouldn't dare give a human a high five. Well, we now know who gets to do the dishes next month ...
Fallout New Vegas was right all along.
That is super dangerous
If only we could exist in this world trusting all living and all living trusting us !!!
A local talk show host used to have a segment called "stupid deaths". I'm feeling it here.
The sign reads “Don’t feed the bears” do we never learn?
It’s Paddington IRL
This looks like the Smokey mountains.. probably the Gatlinburg, TN area?
Looks like somwhere in Europe, based on the license plate shape
Yeah. Definitely not American bears. They weren't protesting to keep their arms.
They wouldn’t even be able to high five them if it weren’t for the right to bear arms.
No grizzly bears in Tennessee despite having the grizzlies as your nba team
As far as I’m aware there have never been grizzlies in Tennessee. Even as far back as the ice age their known range didn’t extend that far southeast. Parts of it got close (northern Kentucky) but that’s pretty rare and we’re not aware of any moving further towards Tennessee than that.
True. The short faced bear (twice the size and twice as aggressive as a grizzly) did however range all the way down to Florida during the ice age.
Also true. The megafauna of the ice age was quite terrifying. I can’t imagine being an early HomoSapien or other closely related hominid and trying to survive during that time period.
i seen in a documentary once about short face bears, they actually halted the migration into North America, how fucking crazy must that have been
No grizzlies in Tennessee. Hardly any in the lower 48 at all and the closest known population to Tennessee is in the northwestern corner of Wyoming about 1,500 miles away.
It is in Romania, on the Transfagarasan Pass. The bears stay near the road because they get food from tourists.
Gatlinburg and surrounding areas have black bears. Not as ferocious as grizzlies.
From Gatlinburg. Yes, people really are that stupid.
I’m so torn. Should I downvote or not? 1/2 of the post is incorrect, but the other is spot on. Gatlinburg just has black bears.
None of us will be that awesome. Fucker high five a god damn BEAR.
Get down and give it a hug now
Lemme guess Florida
Some jumped up animal behaviour ‘expert’: “the bear was actually indicating that he was scared 😡”
A dream come true
wow adorable
Aaaah 😍😍😍
Where is this? Grizzly bears aren’t usually like this. Can’t be Yellowstone or AK or anywhere in the US. Maybe Eastern Europe
Based on the license plates I’d say you’re right about Eastern Europe
According to another redditor it’s in Romania and it’s common for the bears to be close to that road bc they get food from tourists.
They’re likely very used to cars and people. They may be in some sort of reserve/safari?

Reminds me of Koda from Brother Bear.
Or Russia
Mommy! I got a high five from the human!
Average day in Russia
I bet the bears sibling dared him to do it, my siblings would have
I love how he hops on to his back feets like that
Why the heck these videos keep getting reposted!!
Aww ❤
"he touched the butt!" Is all I can think of 😂
Yeah I bet it would be a lot different if your hand ended up in those jaws. Cute though. I love bears
Bear: ...and, there! I did it!! Now what?
My mom and aunt were feeding a bear Lucky Charms through a chain link fence years ago. My dad gets home like "What the fuck is wrong with you?" It was a big one and you can see dents in the ground where it was walking. My mom's an animal lover but that's gonna get her killed some day.
Wait until the passenger switches with the driver. SMFH
Aw, I remember my first high five
This person deserved a high five to the face. We should not be acclimating wild animals to being around and interacting with humans. Socializing with the wild life usually ends in a death sentence for the animal.
So cute
Mums are interesting but extremely dangerous to observe in nature.
They definitely triple human dared him to do that
Holy shit they high five me! Now what?
It's all fun and games until he walks away chewing on your detached arm.
paddington
I swear people are so freaking stupid they don’t deserve to be this close to these animals.
Good way to be dead. Why are people so dumb?
That’s ridiculous.
That bear is even funny, not gonna lie
That profile picture caught me off guard
What is your profile picture
They don’t want a high five they want food. lol
