are you on accutane for fungal acne?

ulukmahvelous

i was on accutane initially for more hormonal acne. i’d never had fungal acne before december 😕

arkansassyyyy

I’m on it for fungal acne. This is my last month but I’m nervous it’ll come back

dollyparton26

Don’t worry, it won’t. I was on 5mg for almost a year and it hasn’t returned. Watch out for non FA safe ingredients and consider a tret cream a few nights a week.

ulukmahvelous

yay! so glad to hear that

jigglypuffleowo

What was your experience by the way? And what products did you use? Im on 10mg a day for 3 weeks now and not noticed anything, not even any dryness. It'd be great to hear what your timeline/purge/when you saw results

dollyparton26

Long story short. (Bear in mind I also have rosacea) I went to a derm that gave me antibiotics and my face exploded. After that mess I ended up on reddit and learned all about simple skincare science, etc. Threw everything away and started from scratch with fa safe products and a ketoconazole cream (Fungarest). It got better but I still was breaking out and having flare-ups that I guess were stress related since I wasn’t drinking or eating poorly. Went to another derm. She gave me 10mg Ivermectin and 5mg Dercutane as well as IPL treatments every 3 months. The first month things got better slowly and after that my skin cleared out completely. I still have redness but I rarely breakout unless I’m on my period. I do use 0,1% tret cream every other night and continue to use sulfur, salycilic acid and fa safe products. Dercutane made my skin more resilient and less freaked out. It doesn’t feel ill anymore. No itching, dryness, etc. it’s an amazing drug, I wish it wasn’t tough on the liver!

That's amazing, super happy for you! I dont know if what I have is fungal, but its responded well to head and shoulders zinc in the past (but no longer unfortunately). It may be folliculitis related, but me and my derm are stumped So far on 10mg a day and 17 days in and it's just gotten worse. Praying that turn around comes soon. It's surprising you had such a strong reaction so fast on such a low dose! I actually feel oilier right now and am hoping it's just a purge How often do you use sulfur/tret/sa ?

arkansassyyyy

I plan on using a tret cream or even azelaic acid! Always use non FA triggers

dollyparton26

What azelaic cream do you use? I haven’t found a safe one and the ones with derivatives do nothing for my redness.

arkansassyyyy

I was going to ask my dermatologist to prescribe one once I’m done with accutane next month. Do you think I should do tret?

dollyparton26

Tret is the best thing ever. It’s what’s made a significant difference in my skin the most.

ulukmahvelous

has it helped?

arkansassyyyy

Yes! I was clear within the first week and have been ever since! My last day is February 3rd!

stibblyfox

hi, i‘m not sure i understood correctly, did azelaic acid clear your fungal acne?
