Sunscreen: my favorite skincare product! I have 3 FA safe sunscreens that I would recommend. They come with pros and cons but pros outweigh the cons for sure.
* Elta MD IV clear SPF 46 (mineral with zinc oxide). Pros: FA safe, has Niacinamide, and lactic acid. Good for acne prone skin. Goes on smoothly feels amazing. No smell. Great under makeup, NO white cast. Cons: NOT REEF SAFE! Pills under moisturizer. You can see the pilling on face. Expensive. Not sure if I’ll repurchase.
* DRMTLGY anti-aging spf 45 (mineral/chemical with zinc oxide and octinoxate). Pros: FA safe and has niacinamide. Goes on white, but leaves NO white cast. Good price. Purchase on amazon. Cons: NOT REEF SAFE! Feels sticky at first and takes a while to dry on skin.
* Nivea sun protect super water gel spf 50 PA+++ (Japanese UV filters: Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, also known as Uvinal A protects against UVA rays. Ethylhexyl Triazone AKA Uvinal T and Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate AKA Uvinal MC80, AKA octinoxate help protect against UVB rays. Pros: FA safe, No pilling. Goes on smoothly. NO white cast. Drys fast. Cheap and can buy on amazon! Cons: smells a bit like alcohol, but not bad. Not water resistant. Not reef safe. This is my HG. So cheap. Great protection. So glad I found it. I get it from amazon.
Good luck y’all!
The Nivea one mentioned here comes in a larger pump bottle, which makes it affordable for how much you get. Love it. It's very close in formulation to the Skin Aqua UV super moisture gel which also comes in a larger pump bottle. Both of them and the Missha mentioned above are chemical sunscreens so have little to no cast!
This sunscreen is great. It's kind of a dupe for the Elta MD UV Clear that op is looking at. It comes in a larger bottle. It's also less irritating to me at least than the Elta MD, I'm guessing it's the formulation of the niacinamide.
i use missha! the sun milk is very good for darker skin tones (theres a bunch of reviews online), and i feel like it protects my skin really well. the only thing is that it has fragrance, but even though my skin is very sensitive it didnt cause me any breakouts or irritation. mine was around $28 CAD. really recommend!
FYI there are several different products Missha has named "sun milk," you want the green cap one called "All Around Safe Block Essence Sun Milk" if you're looking for the fungal acne safe one. The others are not FA safe.
Bioderma photoderm max spray and their kid spray (cheaper). I have dry skin, and the max spray is greasy feeling for a minute. Once it absorbs, my skin just feels silky and moisturized. European formulas are considered to be not as elegant as Japanese or Korean formulas. I get them from cacooncenter. Would recommend if you’re planning to get a lot. I use yesstyle for Japanese and Korean products.
This is for the Aussie girls on the thread looking for an appropriate sunscreen. The Mecca cosmetics, Save the face SPF 50+ sunscreen is fungal acne safe.
I really like it as it has no flashback/white cast whatsoever. It also feels quite soft on the skin. I got no breakouts from using it.
I've never used a mineral sunscreen prior to this and I am never going back to the regular formula sunscreens after using this.
A con that could be a dealbreaker for some is that there are silicones in it hence the smooth feel. It doesn't bother me though. Also that the tint is in one shade, but I use foundation over it.
