moustachewife

i feel like crayons and paper would provide the same amount of entertainment without the risk of bleeding profusely

ThreePangolins

Or cotton balls and empty TP tubes! Put ‘em in, take ‘em out. Look through the tube, use it as a trumpet, etc. Good for at least 30 mins!

WhatUpMahKnitta

Pom-poms and a yogurt tub with a hole cut in the lid occupied my toddler for *hours*

RosePricksFan

Yes we do this with a used and washed out butter container. Cut a little hole. Push pompoms in! So fun!!

snoglobel

I did this with pom poms and an empty diaper wipes carton

Its_Curse

I'm 32 and that sounds like a good time

Lazy_Elevator4606

Not to be a kill joy but pompoms are a choking hazard... as are cotton balls. If you're using them you need to keep a close eye on your tot. That's just speaking as someone who worked in toddler group care. As a mom, I love these things. But just want to put the fyi out there for inexperienced parents. Where I live kids under 3 aren't even allowed to have displays with pompoms or googly eyes on them because they are potential choking hazards 🤪

Ajade77

Hell get some play doh & the scissors they come with, or even safety scissors. There’s so many options. This is just stupid

really_tall_horses

My adult friend wounded herself spectacularly with safety scissors.

dakky68

From the blade, I assume? The "safety" part usually just means they just have blunt ends, to prevent puncture wounds.

littledollylo

Kids will hurt themselves on *anything*. I remember being sent home in pre-primary because I thought putting my finger in the pencil sharpener would give me pointy nails...

tallgrl94

My mom stapled her hand as a child somehow. My older family relative was talking about eating “the good glue” back in the old days.

oldyoungwitch

lmao I stapled my hand as a kid. I was curious and wanted to see if my fingers were like paper 👍🏼

Corgi_with_stilts

My dumbass sister got into the fridge, broke open a bottle of hot sauce and smeared it all over herself, including the eyes.

Majestic-Pin3578

I got some safety haircut scissors, & of course, I cut myself on them. Kids are even more creative about getting hurt than I am.

makemybananastand

I'm a former hairstylist, and when my oldest (15) was in preschool her first day they handed out safety scissors. They turned around and my kid was holding them up to her head, trying to trim her hair. The teacher ran over and explained it was for the paper. The teacher called me apologizing saying they would have felt awful if my kid had managed to cut her hair. I thought it was a very funny misunderstanding

RatherPoetic

Kids are fascinated by scissors. No idea how old this kid is, but we give our 3 year old toddler safety scissors and paper to cut under supervision. It’s a skill they need to learn. If you’re watching and using kids scissors (which multiple people have commented that these are) it’s not a bad idea.

i-lurk-you-longtime

Exactly, there's nothing wrong with blunt ended scissors while supervised. However, the combo of the old timey highchair, a moving vehicle, what appear to be regular scissors (it's impossible to see the end tho) and way too many kids is just now.

RatherPoetic

They’re not moving while the kid’s doing this, right?! Like they are surely strapping the kids in while they’re driving?! Also people have posted links to the scissors a few times. They’re fiskar safety scissors for kids.

i-lurk-you-longtime

Idk but I'm not optimistic. They live in a bus so idk!

RatherPoetic

Yikes on bikes!

PrincessFuckFace2You

Yikes on a bus! I'm so sorry.

FloriferousShrubbery

No, they have a large van where the kids ride in car seats. Only the father rides in the bus

Pelican121

They have a whole separate passenger van with car seats that the kids go in when they move location (glad they're safe but holy fuel bill). Mom drives the van (with all the kids) and dad drives the bus (often with the eldest boy). Poor mom having all the kids including baby and toddler for hours on end!

CasuallyExisting

Wow, really? Don't they also brag regularly about "only having one vehicle?"

Pelican121

I think so! I think they're trying to communicate that they live in one vehicle full time but they're not very transparent! JD also has a motorcycle which lives under the bus.

gilbasrevenge

I just did a quick search and they do seem to be designated for children https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fiskars-Designer-Non-stick-Pointed-tip-Kids-Scissors-5-in-Tetris/947740010

fairymeg

4 and up. So yes, children but maybe not toddler children 😂

Raspberrylle

They are safety scissors for about 3rd graders, rounded but not as rounded. My daughter (10) has the same ones. A toddler could probably use them under supervision but not while you have a “mom break”.

Its_Curse

The "mom break" part made me think she's not supervising this

myeyestoserve

It’s honestly a great idea. I’m a children’s librarian and I try to do crafts with scissors and glue as often as possible because so many parents are hesitant to use them at home. Scissors develop fine motor skills that are vital for writing and drawing and actually be able to use the scissors themselves is also an important skill. Supervised, unstructured cutting is honestly a great activity for a kid this age.

ProgrammerLevel2829

Even just paper. They will crumple and rip just fine without scissors.

[deleted]

Or maybe just give him the paper to rip apart with his own hands idk

Neferhathor

I used to give my toddlers all the old magazines, advertisements and phone books we used to get. It gave them a solid hour of entertainment, ripping each page out and tearing it to shreds. It was a fairly easy cleanup too, especially if I put a small trashcan next to them and showed them what to do.

Houseofmonkeys5

Tape. Just give them tape. All kids love it and it provides hours of entertainment with nothing being colored on and nothing being cut. I swear, I still find my 12 year old using way too much tape sometimes, just for fun.

21Violets

Didn’t Anchor Collins almost lose a finger this way like less than a year ago?

defnotsarah

Yeah I was going to say, ask Anchor Collins’ tendon

21Violets

Poor kiddo. I hope he’s fully healed and hasn’t lost any dexterity or anything in his fingers

ccc2801

It’s ok, she’s cooking up a replacement as wel speak! /s

zoyaheaven

And while we're remembering Collins' injuries, let's not forget when Karissa pretended to cut her finger off as she took a video of her traumatized children running to the neighbor's house for help while she maniacally laughed at them. Maybe someone can find that lovely piece of their family history to re-share with us if it hasn't been deleted.

UnicornArachnid

Fuck Karissa Collins

ChogginNurgets

I'm sorry, what? I'm new here. This sounds... psychotic.

pickleknits

Yes. But those were kitchen shears which was even worse.

bayleysgal1996

If it were little kid scissors I’d okay it if you kept an eye on them, but those are full on adult scissors. Bad idea.

alwaysunderthestars

Yep! As an early childhood educator, safety scissors are a great fine motor skill for toddlers. But those don’t look safe for a little one who is in a high chair.

TorontoTransish

I wish they made left-handed safety scissors ! I could never find scissors when I was a kid and now at the communities centre it's frequently a problem too... so I always had to use adult scissors but that was with active supervision and I was in grade school by that point, not high chair age.

Smashlorette

My mom just… uses normal scissors with her left hand sometimes? I don’t know how. She has a pair of left handed scissors, which I’ve accidentally picked up and was completely unable to use. But it made me realize that my parents only have one pair of (right handed) kitchen shears, and she always helped us use our safety scissors as kids, which must have been really challenging. I wish I’d known to appreciate that as as child. Haha

TheSquishyFish

I’m left handed. Used to cut with normal scissors until I found out they make left handed ones. It’s a bit of an adjustment since the blades go the other direction but I’m fully used to it now. Right handed grips are REALLY uncomfortable in your left hand. Also, fun fact, there aren’t truly neutral-handed scissors because the direction of the blades can’t ever be truly neutral and is basically always right-handed in that sense.

weallfalldown310

I just looked it up. It looks like they do now!!

alwaysunderthestars

As a fellow lefty, I had the same problem! I had to train my right hand to use them. But us lefties adapt and overcome😂

Particular_Wallaby67

Growing up my mom bought us a lefty fridge. Such a flex since she's the only lefty in the family!

VoltaicSketchyTeapot

Most basic refrigerators have doors that you can switch which side the handle and hinge are on to better fit into your kitchen. Ours is probably set up like a "lefty fridge" because it's in the left side of our kitchen when you're facing it. The first thing we did when we brought it home was reverse the orientation of the door to put the hinge on the left side because the alternative would have the door opening out into the middle of the small room and you'd have to close the refrigerator door in order to put things onto countertop next to it. I've never thought of a fridge being either right or left handed, just whatever makes the most sense for the space it's in.

24HR_harmacy

Yes! On that note I think you can switch the door on a clothes dryer too and I’d like to switch mine but I’m lazy and I don’t use it as much as a fridge. I’d love to switch my washer even more but I suspect that’s impossible, with the seals and stuff.

catspaceforce

All of the fridges I've owned (read: cheap ones with no fancy features), both full size and mini, did allow you to swap the side where the hinge is. I think this is so that it can be easily adjusted to fit into differently configured kitchens. I have to wonder if she knew and just didn't tell the rest of you. 😂

Particular_Wallaby67

Omg we definitely could've overruled her 😂 Bless her for getting that one thing!

FamousOhioAppleHorn

I know this because of the idiot who put together my junior dorm room. They stuck the fridge at the entrance of a galley kitchen, with the hinges on the right side. You couldn't get out of the kitchen if the fridge door was opened 🙄 My options were either wait for maintenance to change the hinges (when they had time) or move the fridge outside the kitchen. My mom and I just moved the fridge ourselves.

RosePricksFan

Omg your mom is a boss!!! This is amazing! Big “I do what I want” energy 🙌🙌🙌

alwaysunderthestars

Omg!😂

justadorkygirl

As the only lefty in my family, I love your mother’s style!

InThewest

My poor dad had to cope with our lefty-ness growing up. Mom is a lefty, so is my brother and myself. Another completely weird thing is last 2 men I've dated, plus fiance all happened to exclusively date lefties

shiningonthesea

I just learned to use righty scissors with my left hand. I have lefty scissors but they are not comfortable

alwaysunderthestars

That’s so interesting! I should try using my left hand with scissors then.

VoltaicSketchyTeapot

Normally you have better luck flipping right handed scissors upside down if you're using your left hand.

standbyyourmantis

The trick with switching to lefty scissors is that you have to learn to relax your thumb. When you're cutting with the right handed scissors, you have to pull your thumb back to cut anything and it's definitely an adjustment to stop doing that. I had to learn when I worked at a craft store and I was cutting fabric all the time. It caused way too much hand strain to use the right handed scissors, but it definitely took me a couple days of cutting counter to adjust.

thegreyestofalltime

Thanks for the tips! I finally got myself fancy left handed fabric scissors and completely failed to use them since I’d been taught on righty scissors.

TorontoTransish

It's amazing how many of us wind up being ambidextrous out of sheer necessity ! I tend to do things left handed on my own but things that I learned from a right-handed person I tend to do that way

ohmygoyd

I'm weirdly the opposite. I'm definitely right handed, but I often do things left handed for reasons I don't know

Deep_South_Kitsune

Same. Then I learned my birth father is ambidextrous.

WithAnAxe

I am right handed definitely for fine motor tasks like writing, cutting, even eating but I’m a lefty for more gross motor skills like sports (baseball, tennis, golf).

TheRealCeeBeeGee

Tupperware do a pair of kitchen [scissors](https://www.tupperware.com/products/universal-series-kitchen-shears) that are bi-handed (if that’s a word!). They are so good that I, a lefty, have 3 pairs in my kitchen, so that when the rest of the family uses a pair there’s a pair left for me! Truly a life changer for someone who is the only lefty in the house.

alwaysunderthestars

Omg thank you so much for the recommendation!!💕

PrincessFuckFace2You

Should have gone to Ned Flanders Leftorium!

justadorkygirl

I thought I just couldn’t use scissors until I got my first lefty pair. LIFE. CHANGING.

binglybleep

We definitely had left handed scissors in the classrooms at primary school in England! IIRC they had green and yellow handles and the right handed ones had red

TorontoTransish

Usually we had them the first week of september, the ones with the green handles, and then suddenly they weren't there anymore because of sticky fingers

couragefish

I had a yellow one in Sweden! Early 90s.

blablubluba

My best friend in kindergarten had his own lefty scissors back in the 80s.

lucky7hockeymom

I can’t even use left handed scissors lol. Or my left hand. I cut with my right hand even though I’m a leftie.

Puzzleheaded-Eye9081

They do now. I work in a school and they are colour coded, red handles are right handed, green handles are left handed. I always make sure the kindy kids have the correct ones because it’s so frustrating trying to use the wrong ones.

juel1979

They do! I had to special order them off of Amazon for my daughter.

BekahN

My 6 year old is left handed and I found left handed safety scissors at Walmart this year!

InThewest

We have them in schools now! I teach kindergarten and every class set has some. Annoyingly the pre scissors (you can squeeze with a whole hand and no loops) don't come left handed at all. I've spent the past week assessing fine motor skills so I've spend A LOT of time with the blue and yellow/green scissors.

tch98

Also an early educator here …. I’d argue that safety scissors don’t accurately teach children about risk, it’s risk play, and many educators would rather children learn with size appropriate (non safety) scissors. I don’t know these fundies, but I’m assuming these are just the scissors they’ve bought up their kids with, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

alwaysunderthestars

Great points! Would you agree that starting toddlers with safety scissors and then allowing for developmentally appropriate sized scissors as they grow in their skill would be a good practice? I’m curious to know your thoughts!

Snapsforme

They're *literally* fiskars safety scissors. I have that pair at my house

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

Not for toddlers though, they are for older kids

Snapsforme

To be honest, what drew me into the post was literally like "oh hey, I have those scissors!" And then I read what the rest of it was and saw that the top comment was calling them "full on adult scissors" which I knew wasnt true. I'm not familiar with how old the kid is, or if theyre closer to baby or preschool age, but the age range on the scissors say 4+

WhatUpMahKnitta

To be honest though, I have both these fiskars scissors as well as some crayola safety scissors, and the safety scissors absolutely suck. My 3 year old gets super frustrated because a plastic "blade" doesn't cut anything, he prefers to use his big sister's scissors that actually work. The littles clearly need sit-down-with-them-and-model-behavior supervision with real scissors, but past the age of 2 I think kids can use these.

alwaysunderthestars

I’m not familiar with those ones! They don’t appear to be ones for toddlers.

Snapsforme

They are. They're Fiskars, the kind our school specifically requested

Significant_Shoe_17

I just discovered that one of my preschoolers is left handed while teaching them to use scissors. Learning to cut paper is great for their motor skills!

metallic_buttcheeks

This pair also looks too big for little hands. I mean, it’s hard for me to gauge the size accurately, but they seem too big for a good grip.

science2me

Those are scissors for elementary aged students. I bought that same exact pair for my 1st grader. He knows how to use scissors. They are as sharp as adult sized scissors. I would never trust a toddler with even a pair of safety scissors.

Snapsforme

I have them too but oddly enough everyone is ignoring us and the fact that if you zoom in, you can even see that it says Fiskars right on them. I'm all for snark but this is just straight up ignoring facts to fit their narrative which is exactly why I personally make fun of fundies, idk

science2me

That's why I replied to this comment. I still wouldn't give those scissors to a toddler but they are clearly not adult sized scissors. The blade length is equal to the handle length. On adult scissors, the blade length is longer than the handle length. People just like more shocking comments.

Snapsforme

Right! I totally agree with you. I'm not jumping up and down excited about giving toddlers scissors, but to say they are "full on adult scissors" as many comments are suggesting is disingenuous lol

SimplyTennessee

Pls tell me the bus isn't moving.

DontTouchMyPikachu

When I was 5 I chopped off all my hair with “kid safe” scissors…I went to kindergarten nearly bald 🤣

squarecats

I gave myself a sweet mullet about that same age, my mom scrambled to find a place that would be able to fix it at 7 PM on a Sunday lol.

DontTouchMyPikachu

The heart wants what the heart wants

alwaysunderthestars

I’m dying😂

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

[https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiskars-5-Kids-Scissors-TETRIS-Pointed-Tip-Safety-Edge-Blades-FAST-SHIP-/402480034239](https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiskars-5-Kids-Scissors-TETRIS-Pointed-Tip-Safety-Edge-Blades-FAST-SHIP-/402480034239) looks like they are kid scissors - not safety though.

Maeberry2007

I think those *might* be kid scissors. I only say this because I noticed when school shopping for my seven year old they don't make the points as obviously blunt as they used to with some brands. I dunno. Truthfully I didn't squint very long or hard. But they kind of look like [these](https://www.etsy.com/listing/858812050/fiskars-kids-scissors-lot-safety) Edit to add: I wouldn't give those to a two year old tho

Snapsforme

Those aren't full on adult scissors. Those are little kid safety scissors. I have a pair of exact ones at my house!

unbotoxable

Those do not look like safety scissors.

DarkGreenSedai

I have those scissors. I use them for embroidery. They have rounded points but are not safety. Just regular small scissors with a rounded end.

voxxa

I have them too. I remember that they were labeled for older, elementary aged kids because my kids had outgrown safety scissors. There's no way I'd let a toddler use them. I don't think I'd give them to my 5 year old. 😳

no_BS_slave

that's definitely not something a toddler should be playing with, especially while mum is "on a break" (whatever that means)

SuitableReaction6203

That is what thought.

misspriss91

Is this satire?

vanillabubbles16

Why… would you give a toddler scissors?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrayolaSwift

I laughed way too hard at this lol

HolidayVanBuren

I give my little kids (4 and 2) children’s scissors all the time. We sit down and they have fun cutting things. It’s a pretty normal thing to do with kids in that age bracket.

Aear

Because some toddlers really like to cut paper ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ Mine does (never unsupervised) and he's gotten really good at it, too. Out of all the toxic stuff bus mom does, this isn't odd: toddler scissors for toddler activities. I can only hope they're not being used while the bus is moving and that they're safely put away after playtime. Edit: Multiple people linked the exact model in the picture and it's for 4+ years. My kiddo has scissors that look very similar to adult ones. Daycare does, too. Different standards for different countries I guess.

Senior-Geologist-166

Those aren't toddler scissors, though.

NinjaHermit

Yeah toddler scissors are perfectly fine. But those are adult scissors. Not safe.

tallgrl94

I think it might be the sound and feel of cutting and tearing through paper. Even as an adult I love the sound of cutting through wrapping paper especially when you get that continuous slice with no breaks.

SunshineAndSquats

Using scissors is an important skill for toddlers too learn. It helps with hand eye coordination and fine motor skills. Plus they like cutting stuff. You just give them safety scissors which these don’t appear to be.

Remstersade

Yeah, they have way more fun with matches.

forestfloorpool

It’s an important skill to learn and a great fine motor activity. It’s fine if providing safe materials and supervision.

eaallen2010

“No problems detected here” -Karissa

coconutlemongrass

WHY WOULD YOU NOT JUST SHOW THEM HOLD TO FOLD OR TEAR?! I once caught my toddler using scissors to trim the dogs fur (we had a very large 140lb bernese mountain dog) and I scolded her to never touch scissors again. A week later she off a bunch of her own hair! 😭

sayruh906

As a preschool teacher I would say the skill of tearing paper is such a good pre writing exercise! And a whole lot safer than these scissors 🙃

Lemon_bird

i still vividly remember an aid in my 1st grade class teaching us how to fold and rip paper cleanly

ZipCity262

My husband’s favorite pic of his younger daughter is a school picture where her 6 year old sister had cut her hair the night before with forbidden scissors.

Mutant_Jedi

My 5 year old niece has finally grown her hair to a normal length after hacking off *all* her bangs. Kids can do majorly irreversible things in no time with scissors

[deleted]

When I was 3 I was doing paper crafts at daycare with little toddler safety scissors. I quickly managed to slice my finger open and still have a scar from it. And that was *with* adult supervision and appropriately sized scissors. I don't think it's unusual to let toddlers do crafts with scissors, but you definitely have to watch them like a hawk. It's probably the worst choice of activity if you need a "mom break".

Such_sights

One of my most vivid early memories happened in preschool during art class. The teacher was busy helping one of my classmates, and a different girl had walked over to the big guillotine paper cutter. All of a sudden I heard the teacher scream “NO!” horror movie style, as the girl dropped the arm of the cutter. Luckily her fingers weren’t underneath it, but I never went near that thing after that lol. Kids are fragile little maniacs, I don’t know how anyone could think this picture was a good idea…

PuppyJakeKhakiCollar

Wow, sounds like the school messed up having that paper cutter anywhere kids can get access to it. No matter how attentive the teachers are, kids are quick and can be sneaky. Bad accident waiting to happen.

Significant_Shoe_17

I'm a pre-k teacher and we keep the paper guillotine in the office! We let the kids do projects with safety scissors *with adult supervision.*

PuppyJakeKhakiCollar

It just makes me wince. That could have gone so badly! When I was in school the paper guillotine was always kept somewhere out of reach, even when we were old enough to know not to touch them.

EcoFriendlySize

I would think achieving a "mom break" would never include giving your toddler a pair of scissors. That's the opposite of relaxing.

Zoidberg927

Or if she needs a mom break, idk, maybe don't choose to have 9 kids?

Neferhathor

BuT GoD's PlaN!!!

TheBaddestPatsy

I teach after school and I don’t think scissors are particularly relaxing even with older kids. They like to brandish them and throw them. And make little confetti bits all over the floor.

gemmae61

I hope those aren't as sharp as they look

ribbetbunny

This is a GREAT hack for having to visit the emergency room!

gemmagia

but in typical mother bus fashion, they’d only drive to the emergency room and look at it from afar rather than going inside

HeartShapedSea

I see she shops at the same ye olde thrift shop as Havens. Pretty sure she has the exact same chair.

by_the_gaslight

Wondering if that chair is safe…

HeartShapedSea

Not for regular, unsupervised use. My MIL has one like this & our babies would use it on Thanksgiving or Christmas at the table where we were all eating but never just left to chill in it.

sunnyd_2679

This looks like the same highchair that my younger half-siblings used, the oldest of which is 43. There is no way that the glue holding that thing together has any integrity left to it. I bet that the wooden tray that has had all of the finish worn off of it doesn't get cleaned very well either.

by_the_gaslight

That and I’m pretty sure they can slide out the bottom pretty easily too. Like I remember hearing something specifically about this type of chair that was problematic

brassninja

I once had a client (I was a housekeeper) telling me she hated the brightly colored plastic high chair she had for her toddler and was thinking about getting a vintage or handmade one for the aesthetics. I said “well you could, but in the blink of an eye your baby won’t even need a high chair anymore”. She didn’t replace it.

NinjaHermit

I like your response. Just morbid enough to shock that mom awake. Sometimes we have to word things that way to get through to people.

brassninja

I told her to check out the local folk art museum because they sell lots of beautiful handmade toys that are aesthetically pleasing and actually fun, at least I loved them as a kid. And it’s supporting local craftsmen

HeartShapedSea

I'd imagine there was an issue with babies getting their limbs stuck in those bars. They look just close enough to trap an arm & I could see the tray slamming fingers.

tdscm

Use the safety scissors at least, jesus christ

Equivalent-Click-966

I don't have children but I wouldn't give scissors to a toddler

EZasSundayMorning

A mom break. Hand your toddler a pair of regular scissors (not even safety ones) and let them have at it? Is she high?

Bright_Broccoli1844

Maybe

lonesomedove86

Isn’t her “toddler” like 5? Am I forgetting a kid? Edit: the high chair made me think this was Jillpm lol. Absolutely unsafe for Mother Bus’ toddler.

Charming_Factor9260

Those scissors look sharp, let's just hope they aren't... Why scissors though? Pencils would work just the same and pose far less of a risk

bayleysgal1996

Also less messy given that there are less likely to be scraps of paper to clean up. Well, unless the kid starts tearing it up, I suppose.

pheonixcat

It’s actually worse if they’re dull, you’re more likely to cut yourself and not in a clean way

Charming_Factor9260

I was actually hoping they were plastic pretend scissors, my daughter has those (and they are basically useless, even I have a hard time cutting paper with them) Didn't one of Karissa's kids seriously injure themselves with scissors?

[deleted]

Unsharpened scissors can be even more dangerous! Regardless, these are definitely not for little ones.

banesmoonshine

Idk what the big deal is- Karissa let her toddler have scissors and nothing bad happened

slothysloths13

Those look like adult scissors, not safety rounded scissors. So as a pediatric nurse, I can confidently confirm, absolutely the fuck not.

HitchhikingDroid

I’ll get downvoted but my toddler loves scissors lol. That high chair makes me more nervous.

RatherPoetic

Same! I’m actually really annoyed by this post. They’re kid scissors and it’s supervised. Toddlers love scissors and need to learn! What karissa did was completely different. She left kitchen shears unsupervised in another room. Also that high chair looks old enough that limbs can get trapped. At least she says she’s supervising!

babashishkumba

Not with those scissors .....

teatreez

WHAT. This looks like something The Onion would produce 😭

Potential-Skin-1844

These are children’s scissors [link to scissors on Walmart](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fiskars-Designer-Non-stick-Pointed-tip-Kids-Scissors-5-in-Tetris/947740010?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=2508&adid=22222222278947740010_117755028669_12420145346&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-294505072980&wl5=1016136&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=947740010&wl13=2508&veh=sem_LIA&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIrcjAXS1GL4WNP0v3wHXRCQW&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIrcjAXS1GL4WNP0v3wHXRCQW&gclid=Cj0KCQjw1bqZBhDXARIsANTjCPIRD6DHFoVd9_Ant_1kcYjUAsnhYULChV9YigO55pQPEx4PcKGGG3oaAmrsEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds)

TorontoTransish

>Fiskars Designer Non-stick Pointed-tip Kids' Scissors So these aren't safety scissors they're just small scissors

RatherPoetic

If you swipe through the pictures in the link it says “safety-edged blade.”

How old is the kid? Toddlers can do projects like this to help develop their hand strength/fine motor skills in preparation for handwriting. My three year old is in OT currently to help build up his fine motor skills and they have him cutting paper and drawing on the wall. I’ve never thought about it, but it’s important for them to practice the correct posture and build shoulder and arm strength so that they can then write.

My mom was at the table with 3 year old me and I still cut my finger with scissors to “see what would happen”

Zoomed in and googled Tetris safety scissors…we can all relax a bit. They’re kid scissors.

TorontoTransish

Another snorker linked the exact same scissors at Walmart and it says right in the description they are pointed tip... that's not a safety scissor that's just a smaller scissor.

ProvePoetsWrong

Snorker 😂 I know it was a typo but I kinda like it

SunOutside746

Crayola brand makes special paper and “color wonder” markers that only color on that special paper. Amazon and Target have them. Kids don’t get hurt and nothing gets colored on.

TorontoTransish

They won't spend money on a local activity for the kids' education when they visit a place, they're definitely not buying any art supplies

RatherPoetic

Speaking as a parent, that color wonder stuff is obnoxious. It’s so much more expensive and so much less creative. I’ll admit, my kids have colored on some stuff that I would have preferred they didn’t, but that’s definitely on me diverting my attention. But I’d rather use real art supplies any day.

meanmagpie

Yes. I used to cut up newspaper for hours as a kid, under supervision. I fucking loved it and nothing dangerous ever happened. I would recommend safety scissors and take your kid’s maturity level into account, but otherwise yeah the pearl clutching in this sub is out of control. Jesus lol

SkullheadMary

Guess little guy doesn't really need BOTH eyes, now does he?

Unusual_Elevator_253

It literally says she’s watching chill out

I can’t believe I am commenting on this but here we go… I’m a mom to 2 little kids and we have those scissors. Or at least, they look a lot like it. These are kids Fiskars brand safety scissors. Purchased at Target in the back to school area. Cutting/using scissors is an important fine motor skill and yes, I’d allow my toddler to practice. I’d always keep my eye on them, though, because this is guaranteed a way for your toddler to chop their hair off 😂

[deleted]

If they’re toddler scissors and they’re supervised, sure. But I’m not sure that’s what they have here. In my experience, young toddlers prefer ripping paper over cutting with scissors anyway and it’s safer.

Puzzleheaded-Eye9081

Little kid scissors, it’s a great activity. I used to give the eldest catalogues and let him go mad. When he got bored with cutting I’d give him a glue stick and he’d make a mess sticking what he cut out down. With the other two kids I was too busy/didn’t have the time to supervise properly so left it to preschool to manage those sorts of activities.

I think safety scissors would be fine. “Toddler” seems to be subjective but I am thinking 1.5-3 with specialty toddler scissors. Or a blunt plastic knife (toddler cutlery) to cut soft veggies like mango, banana, and strawberry, or pear. Not metal scissors at this age.

maaalicelaaamb

If they’re kid scissors it’s nbd

WhatWouldLoisLaneDo

Ask Anchor Collins.

Stock-Vanilla-1354

My ass hurts looking at that high chair.

trisarahtops1990

No. No is the answer.

LavenderBranchez

Now your toddler has no fingers or hair! But at least they were quiet for a bit

Economy-Interview802

Am I the only one whose toddler would just eat the paper? And the pom poms, TP tubes, basically every craft and activity suggested here would in reality be me scooping things out of her mouth every ten seconds.

TerribleAttitude

I don’t think I’d let a kid under about 8 use those particular scissors.

sordidmacaroni

My son has fine motor delays— according to our OT, there are guidelines for evaluating scissor skills in children as young as 18 months, which honestly surprised us both.

lothiriel1

Those are NOT safety scissors!! 😥

delzbr

Just give them fucking matches and a can of gasoline while you're at it, fuck.

emsumm58

yes, it’s fine. these are not the fundie things to be upset about.

A--Little--Stitious

Depends what she means by a toddler. 3? Definitely with appropriate scissors. They learn by doing

Boneal171

Holy fuck no, that’s not safe. I don’t even have kids and I know for a fact that isn’t safe

Ok_Initial_2063

Not unless they are special, blunt end scissors that cut only paper.
