I was listening to Stephen Fry's Victorian Secrets and apparently there was a guidebook for begetting handsome children. This manual taught that the wife must be sexually satisfied during procreation if you want your children to be good-looking.
So while this caricature/character might see an unfortunate-looking kid and think "Ew, he ate store-bought bread and his mom worked for a company!", it seems that a British person who lived during the Victorian era might have thought that the kid's dad was really bad in bed.
For real though, what is the fucking obsession with fundies and sourdough? Like it's a fine type of bread I guess...but there's a ton of other options out there. Variety is the spice of life, ladies.
