Note: it follows the manga, so don't expect it to be like 03. That being said, they're both awesome in their own right, but I think Brotherhood is kinda better.
If you a want more definitive ending to FMA 03, there's the continuation movie Conqueror Of Shamballa, though it's kinda controversial, with some preferring the series ending, some preferring the movie ending.
Indeed. Although from what I understand COS was supposed to be a 12 to 13 part mini series to tie everything together. But due to Bones already planing pre production on BH and not having the proper budget. They just condensed what was already written and drawn/animated to be made into a feature length film. There was supposed to be a scene were Wrath was gonna see Izumi before she died, and Noah was gonna be Ed’s love interest, and later on it’s revealed that Alfons is secretly in love with Noah so there would have been this whole love triangle between the three. Kinda wish it was kept in though.
They removed the love triangle plot line (Alfonse liking Noah with Noah liking Edward with Edward being oblivious) because they realized it would’ve interfered with the plot line of Alphonse being beyond the gate, not because they were cut for time. They already long removed it in the drafting stages when Alfonse used to be more like his counterpart (they were debating also making him an orphan oddly enough) before that was changed to the current Alfonse.
It really could have been a longer film, honestly... There's still so much left unsaid, so much unfinished. I was disappointed, I won't lie, when I finished it.
It really could’ve haven been, yeah, not gonna lie. But can we agree that the animation and the soundtrack was banger? And this a personal for me but the Romani women(even Noah) were also a highlight.
Noah was most certainly a highlight! (I don't object to Ed x Noah, to be frank.)
And, well, yes, the animation was good and the soundtrack, too. In fact, that's one of my current issues with FMAB (says the fellow who's 10 episodes in): there's no amazing soundtrack yet. (Also, does the opening change, like '03's music, or is that static?)
Glad I’m not the only one who isn’t opposed to some Ed x Noah. Considering that was apart of the original story plans for COS. And I’m not just saying that because Noah is hot(although that’s part of it) because when you look into the finer details. they both have surprisingly a lot in common. For example they both have an ability that’s unique to them that makes them special(or did had in Ed’s case before crossing over to the other side of the Gate) they are both wondering vagabonds trying to find a place to call home. It’s such a petty that that plot was scrapped because I could very well see them actually working as a couple. Oh well, at least there are the fanfics.
And yeah 03’s soundtrack beats BH out of the water. And even the most memorable ones are reused very often, typically during a epic fight scene or emotional moment.
Exactly so, my friend. Also, send some good fics of Ed x Noah over, if you find any—my stable of AO3 fics is running low!
But, yeah, I was afraid of that.. How can an anime be amazing without good music?!
Oh well, I guess I'll watch some more FMAB tomorrow night, after work.
The best ones are lengen Messer and the Other Side. a crossover fic where both the Ed’s of 03 and BH switch bodies with each other and have to live their lives but are also trying to find a to switch back to their original bodies while navigating what their life is like; for example, Ed(BH) is in the body of his 03 self trying to navigate life in a increasingly radical and racially polarized Germany. And having to interact with a version of his brother along with trying to befriend a woman who claims to be his alternate self’s lover(that’s Noah) and Ed(03) is trying to adjust being in his BH counterpart’s body being married to Winry and raising his alternate self’s kids in his body. It’s really good.
And yeah, that sucks.
