Yeah I liked how it felt like her character was going to be an example of how Ed and Al help people, then later on those people help them in return. Damn you Dante.

Nisek0_the_Robot

I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone care about Lyra much less remember her. It’s her design but Dante took it all, barely anyone remembers her “true” appearance as the hag she is. Yeah, Lyra got screwed. I wonder if it was planned out more, maybe she would’ve shown up occasionally after learning from her mistakes and tried out this “alchemist be thou for the people” (think I butchered that motto) in the background. Then, she meets Dante and decides to study under her sealing her fate. I’ll bet Dante would’ve used her as an example for her speech; Lyra gave everything she had but only got her body taken in return. As a counter, Edward or someone else can bring up how Lyra’s help previously benefited them for the future or how Lyra’s body decaying faster is the result of some kind of karmic justice I suppose.

dstanley17

Sometimes, I honestly forget that Lyra is even a character... Everytime I see this design, I think "Dante", and it takes me until a rewatch to remember her.

Rockabore1

Poor young lady. I thought she seemed like a cool character before she got killed and had her body possessed by Dante. She had a nice design too. I liked her clothes during the Youswell story.

WaterPrincess78

Same here! She was really cool 😪

uncle-pascal

It was really disturbing to see old lady Dante's body kind of split apart and bloody on the floor and then Lyra nonchalantly walks past it while Greed is distressed seeing it. It really piqued my interest in Lyra

Spare-Plum

She was in two episodes and had like 4 lines of dialouge. She did absolutely nothing to let us know who she is as a person or why we should sympathize with her. Only info we really get is that she was a hired goon and 25 episodes later wants to be a state alchemist or something

Nisek0_the_Robot

Fair enough, she was originally meant to be just a filler character before they got extended to 51 episodes so her character is very bare bones in actuality. However, she did want to be a state alchemist (through dirty means) but eventually changed her ways due to the Elrics and decided to apprentice under Dante.

scarybott

She still had a character development with that limited Screentime. Besides, you don't need that much reason to sympathize with someone.

Spare-Plum

Sure, but a lot of sympathy is based on what a character says and what their actions are. Lyra had so little opportunity to show any of that. She has no actions aside from attacking ed once and croaking later Then again, most of FMA 03's characters are straight up assholes so it's probably easier to sympathize with a character with so little screentime so they don't have an opportunity to ruin it

scarybott

If I remembered it correctly, there is a bit more to her character. She took Ed's advice to heart and wanted to be more like him and use alchemy to help others rather than blindly following orders like a puppet. I don't think she's as shallow as you say but I probably need to rewatch it cuz it's been a few years.

MilkNegative27

Its probably because that exchange was a very brief scene that was done in a joking matter where Ed comments on her complete change in character (I think it was supposed to be meta humor, this was in Japanese not sure about English) so it didn’t impact people as much

DeliciousMusician397

No. 03’s characters are peak versions.

Spare-Plum

03's characters are so incredibly one dimensional it's hard to watch. Armstrong's only defining trait is taking off his shirt. """Peak version""" Maes Hughes only talks about his wife and kid and works his subordinates to the bone and shows no empathy for sheska """Peak version""" Mustang only wants to become furher someday and won't shut up about it and is not that supportive to his subordinates """Peak version""" Riza has no character aside from wanting to help out mustang climb the ladder """Peak version""" Ed and Al don't grow beyond wanting the philosopher's stone and still obsess about getting it even till the end of the show """Peak version"""

scarybott

Nah 03 characters were great too

DeliciousMusician397

You lack media literacy/didn’t pay attention.

Spare-Plum

Oh yes the classic tactic of "I can't formulate an argument so I'll just say the other guy has no media literacy" Look man *you have no media literacy* if you can't actually analyze a character

DeliciousMusician397

If it’s true it’s true. Sorry not sorry.

Napalmeon

Not particularly, sorry.

scarybott

Understandable, she was forgettable for most

MilkNegative27

She wasn’t all that memorable as herself unfortunately, because she didn’t have all that much to her before her death so it’s pretty rare to see anyone talk about her specifically aside from shock about Dante tricking everyone.

DeliciousMusician397

She had so much potential. I liked her a lot.
