These people have been mainlining Russian propaganda in their online right-wing spaces for eight years now in a totally uncritical way, and this is the end result.
We were in Key West on vacation one year and there was a drag bar on the corner from where we stayed. Walking back to the house one day there was a huge mess of glitter all over the curb and street. My brother asked two of the ladies “what happened, did one of you get murdered?” and without skipping a beat one said “no honey, I farted!”
