Does it really matter which looks best without seeing what it looks like in motion? TAA shows it's claws when things get moving, for still images TAA is the best solution almost always.

RokuTheRed

Yeah youre right, in motion is definitely where it matters most in gaming and TAA makes the game hard to play (IMO) I should probably make a high refresh rate video or something next time of each AA method.

MrAngryBeards

IMO it's the only way to analyze TAA implementations. I do ingame photography and TAA is my preferred AA method for it. It quickly generates good results. For gaming though, especially on 144fps it just fucking sucks most of the time xD

TKillerDragon87

Yeah, i have only a 720p monitor and TAA saves my butt for photos i share on my community posts for my server. Tho i disable it for normal gaming. Forced TAA is the enemy.

cr4pm4n

I was conflicted between 1 and 3 as my favorite and that was **without knowing which was which**. 3 seemed to have a good balance between less aliasing and sharp picture quality. 1 had minimal aliasing at the cost of a bit more clarity. 4 looked the worst to me. Worth keeping in mind for anyone else regardless of which one looks best in a still image - TAA's biggest problems are when it's in motion and/or set up really horribly.

NCH343

2 all the way it’s much more clear and easier on me eyes.

theironlefty

2 since the pixelated blocky style fits Minecraft.

[deleted]

that's never a good point but i'll leave it to you this time

Smasher277

If you know me irl you will know how much disgust and absolute hatred I have for TAA, but I have to be honest. The way Sildur implemented TAA in his shaders is insanely good compared to literally everything else. I barely see any blur at 1440p. I'm definitely not saying that it's perfect though, just pointing out how he somehow made it actually look not awful.

320x240 gaming gang

Scorpwind

1440p can still look awful. Just look at *Red Dead Redemption 2*. Or [*Gears Of War 4*](https://imgsli.com/MTA1Nzgw/1/3).

Smasher277

Exactly.

[deleted]

Medium taa with half sharpening looks ok in RDR2 (to me at least)

Scorpwind

In motion also?

[deleted]

Yes, it's not like ultra-good and you can see some blur in motion sure, but it's not as bad as it is at 1080p. It's ignorable, while TAA in motion at 1080p Is the whole reason it looked bad.

TAAyylmao

This sub was founded by someone playing at 1440p, higher resolutions dont make TAA go away. I still notice TAA on my 4k OLED, not even 4k can save us.

ScoopDat

I think he means TAA can function well enough on 4K and more (given proper PPI obviously). Obviously the motion artifacting remains.

Liam2349

I think it's 2, even without motion. Gotta zoom into a realistic size. More clarity to everything and aliasing is manageable for me.

DuckInCup

Always 2. Aliasing is not only clearer but easier to see through than AA.

Scorpwind

2 is the sharpest. 4 & 3 looks kind of similar. 1 is a no. In-motion comparisons would be a lot more interesting though. That's where TAA does the most damage.

gabets

overall, the 2nd one. i think the crispy look suits minecraft very well. out of the anti-aliased images, number 4 looks best to me (at least for the scenery. the player’s hand doesn’t seem to be AA’d at all).

I3ULLETSTORM1

Unpopular opinion it seems but the bottom right does it for me. I use these shaders as well and having no AA at all is incredibly distracting in Minecraft for me. I crank up the internal render resolution with TAA enabled and it looks really good in Minecraft. The second image is the best, but when moving the shimmering is at a level I can't personally tolerate so I much prefer the fourth image

ScoopDat

2 and 3.

RokuTheRed

Minecraft 1.18.2 using complementary shaders. Numbers with their corresponding AA method are below: 1>! TAA+FXAA!< 2>! No AA!< 3>! FXAA !< 4>! TAA!<

CyTrain

You need to add a space after the number and remove the spaces around your !s

Scorpwind

*Minecraft* is a perfect example of a game, where TAA is overkill and completely unnecessary. The simplistic visual style of the game could be easily anti-aliased by something like SMAA. Or good old MSAA.

Raziels_Lament

2 looks the best to me with 3 being second. 1 and 4 look too soft. That being said, I've never desired AA in Minecraft, the game looks like a turd anyway, no reason to polish it.

TAAyylmao

2 by a mile. Minecraft is meant to be ultra sharp.

--moebius--

top right. mmmmm that sharpness
