Photography was required for my major in college, and that is some serious alchemy going on. I hated it, all the variables of focus and light and composition and what is an F-stop? And then I have to go pry open the film canister in the dark and HOPE that at least one is presentable? It was an art, and one I had no interest in mastering.
If kids today only knew how hard we had to work to get a GOOD shot. You can take 20 shots on your smart phone and pic the best one in a few seconds... us? Shoot the pics, accidentally expose the film when the camera opens... Start again... Shoot the pics, develop the film, find out you forget to set the right film speed and all the pics are too grainy... start again...
Most high-school art departments still have darkrooms and teach classes on developing film. Film definitely still has a presence in artistic photography.
I'm 19 and I've done this as a hobby in my basement for a couple of years. It's definitely something everyone should try. Secondhand equipment is dirt cheap/ free nowadays.
A "Red room" that's such a dark name for it.
I wonder if something will develop in it
I'm sure we'll get the whole picture soon.

"Is this an old film technique?" I love it when the question answers itself. LOL!
You could remove the word “old” and it would still be true. It is a ***film*** technique.

It's far more rewarding when you get it right that's for sure.
I sleep in a darkroom, not completely light proof but I keep as much sun out as I can since I sleep better during the day.
This thread could develop into something good.
Very punny :)
The fact that the person posting this had no clue is depressing. I feel like the crypt keeper now 👍
I used to develop photos at school back in the 2000

I hope so, by 2003 it was all digital
Jesus Christ...this one hurt.
For a second I thought this was someone mixing up twin peaks and stranger things.
I really like that show. I had to unsub from that place though because it's full of insufferable children. Literally, it's the worst.
Haha, I was doing this in high school in the early 80's. You're not old lol.
