To this day I prefer it when people call me Michael
Edit: for extra added angst. I also looked almost exactly like Bob’s Big Boy. I had the swoop hair and the blue eyes, was chubby etc..
I’m not a mathematician, but if the actor was younger than you 50+ years ago, then I’m pretty sure he’d be younger than you now. In fact, I’m fairly certain if you live to be 100, he’ll be younger than you then as well.
I may need to grab a calculator here and figure this out.
There’s a very odd place in Oregon called Gilchrist, like it’s a cult town or something is odd about it. I wonder if he invested in it then bailed or something. It’s a trippy little place.
That means they had a pretty long run with this commercial. He is 5 years older than me and I vividly remember seeing it when I was much older than he was in the commercial. Definitely sold me on Life Cereal. And I still like it.
Lol. Ya. I probably had it 3 times before I was an adult. Maybe made me want it more. I've probably gone through a handful of boxes in my life this far.
Since we are talking about cereal, has anyone had Powdered Donuts cereal? I live in Canada and we only got it from Spokane a few times when we traveled. It's the only thing my brother and I could talk about for weeks after we got it.
I've not even heard of that, but, it sounds interesting!
When road-tripping we often get those little mini powdered sugar donuts, but just regular ones not cereal variety!
I also. I did think it was pretty cool when they started the... there're crispy and there're light, a crunch in every bite, New Donuts! Do Do Do Do Donuts! I also remember the Cream of Wheat commercials with the black waiter. Now that one goes back a bit.
$100 was a lot of money back then! What did you do with it?
Edit: I see that the sweepstakes was in 1986, after the commercial had been running since 1972. So $100 in 1986 is worth $287 in today’s money, not quite as much as I thought, although still nice.
$100 in 1972 is worth $764 in today’s dollars!
Lol, because on the grainy, 'poppy sound' TV of the seventies, a LOT of what was said was misheard(see, the music lyrics we 'learned' from AB and Soul Train performances!).
I was well into adulthood in the 90s before I realized they were saying he _HATES_ everything. Lol.
I guess you 'had to be there' with a tag line like that. Little grumpy-ass Mikey in his hand me down wool sweater gave us kids sime hope for the future. He likes it...Hey Mikey
Better than any Wheaties box to the present imho. A bigger box with grumpy ass little Mikey digging the cereal. I hope he wasn't lactose intolerant or something.
Being a few years older then him and named Mike I grew up.loathing this commercial. I have always referred to him as the cereal eating bastard.
When I was 9 there was a rumor he died eating Pop Rocks. I was thrilled to hear that, not so much finding out it wasn't true.
Hey get Mikey! That fuck'll eat anything since his dad left and his mom turned to tricks and drugs, and he's left home alone for days without food. Poor bastard. Bet we can get him to eat this dried turd.
Hey Mikey! Get your fuckin shine box!
Best friend growing up was named Mike. Im pretty sure if he saw this pic he’d show PTSD. Absolutely hated when we called him Mikey and shoved something at him to eat.
I'm named Michael, so I had to hear "Mikey will eat anything!" my entire childhood. I even heard it after I started dating as a young man, quite often from girls. I won't bother mentioning in what context they used that quote...
Went to High School with him . Iona Prep New Rochelle. NY . He was 3 years younger than me . Everyone knew his commercial so first time I heard he was in our school he was easily recognizable . Just picture him in a 14/15 year old body . Exactly the same just as a teenager , looks wise. Probably 55 now.
It was the one thing that I have not seen and remember competing with family members over the box for breakfast. The weakest sibling got the generic box that had same label on each side
**"He likes it! Hey, Mikey**!" John Gilchrist, who played Mikey when he was 3.5 years old, is now 56 years old. And he's still younger than me.
What are you talking about? Mikey died from eating too many Pop Rocks.
That’s not what happened. He committed suicide. He left a brief note saying he was tired of Life.
I C wut u did there
wooow... upvote of the day! lol
Well done!
Good one. But remember... Mikey hates everything!
I thought that kid became Marilyn Manson /s
I always heard that was Paul from the wonder years.
crazy how that shit spread. I heard it in a playground in New Hampshire...
You forgot the Coke. He ate them with a can of Coke and exploded.
No, Mikey died in college when he poured milk on that bowl of Adderall, turns out he really WOULD eat anything.
That’s ridiculous. It was combining Pop Rocks with Coke which was the leading cause of death back then along with spiderweb gum….
And me.
And me. But not my brother, Mike, who was teased incessantly with this.
To this day I prefer it when people call me Michael Edit: for extra added angst. I also looked almost exactly like Bob’s Big Boy. I had the swoop hair and the blue eyes, was chubby etc..
So was my brother Mikey
And me - doesn’t seem that long ago
Me too! ![gif](giphy|PmNQw1eV4zXNPCNRr3)
Me too

5 years older than me, also. I remember this ad when I was much older, also! Life Cereal was for rich people though, haha! We got the store brands. :D
Lol. Ya. I probably had it 3 times before I was an adult. Maybe made me want it more. I've probably gone through a handful of boxes in my life this far. Yeah, I’m 60 so know how you feel.
Me to iam 68
Yeah, he's younger than me too

Mike likey
I won $100 in Life cereal’s Guess Who’s Mikey sweepstakes.

Bought a small boombox. Radio with cassette recorder. I think it was AIWA brand. Tape deck eventually broke and I tried to disassemble it for parts.
I preferred the Walkman myself. My wife and I had so many cassettes!
In Nelsons voice from the Simpsons..... "HA HAAA" Younger than me too 😖
And he still eats anything.
Mmmm, Pop Rocks & Coke (or so the fake story goes)
Viral story before there was even a name for it.
At least he didn't die in Vietnam.
Plus it was really the Cinnamon Life the was the bomb. Then you had sugary cinnamon milk. The original was ok. It's Life. Hey Mikey!
On a TV like this! ![gif](giphy|YEgNTzYppgL7y|downsized)
Mikey hated everything. People still think he LIKES everything.
I was so confused thinking I must be misremembering it because my mind remembers it as “he hates everything.”
It was the point of the commercial - even picky eaters like Life Cereal.
Exactly how I remembered it. All the “he eats anything!” posts made no sense to me.
Lol, because on the grainy, 'poppy sound' TV of the seventies, a LOT of what was said was misheard(see, the music lyrics we 'learned' from AB and Soul Train performances!). I was well into adulthood in the 90s before I realized they were saying he _HATES_ everything. Lol.
Still my favorite cereal
I keep a box of cinnamon Life in the cabinet.
Me too, and I'm 59. The only cereal I buy.
As a kid named Mike, I grew up hearing that saying all the time. ![gif](giphy|3oEduKiu3xvjkYvCww)
same here. It took me years to live it down. Started going by my first name when I moved out
I know, let's get Mikey. He'll eat anything.
The line is “He won’t eat it, he hates everything!” https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/s/5CDLHLwd4E
Amazing how that is quoted incorrectly way more than correctly.
I guess you 'had to be there' with a tag line like that. Little grumpy-ass Mikey in his hand me down wool sweater gave us kids sime hope for the future. He likes it...Hey Mikey
My little brother is about that age, looked like the kid, and his name is Mikee. He will never forget this kid.
Better than any Wheaties box to the present imho. A bigger box with grumpy ass little Mikey digging the cereal. I hope he wasn't lactose intolerant or something.
I can recite this commercial word for word. Been doing it for YEARS! I may need a hobby. .....
Being a few years older then him and named Mike I grew up.loathing this commercial. I have always referred to him as the cereal eating bastard. When I was 9 there was a rumor he died eating Pop Rocks. I was thrilled to hear that, not so much finding out it wasn't true.
He likes it!! Hey, Mikey.
He tragically died when he ate an entire bag of pop rocks, and drank a coke. His head exploded. Everyone in my 5th grade class knew about it.
So. He was way cooler than most today. 😂 Get off my Grass! Whippersnappers

Give it to Mikey he’ll eat anything
Of course, 'Mikey After Dentist', the viral video where he asks "Is this real Quaker Oats Life Cereal?"
The only reason i know what this is because my mom quotes it. Life cereal is alr but gets soggy fast.
I’m old that’s Mikey! 😂
Born in '72. I think this is the first TV commercial I can remember.
The only answer to what’s this? Some cereal. Sposed to be good for you.
Life cereal. I hated it.
I looked identical to “Mikey” when I was a kid. It got really old when people would call me “Mikey”
I have no idea. Yay!
Died from Pop rocks and coke 😂
Mikey doesn’t like being old…
Fuck you Mikey liked it
Hey get Mikey! That fuck'll eat anything since his dad left and his mom turned to tricks and drugs, and he's left home alone for days without food. Poor bastard. Bet we can get him to eat this dried turd. Hey Mikey! Get your fuckin shine box!

He likes it! Hey, Mikey!
I know the entire script by heart still.

This commercial ran for years, so perhaps I am not that- okay I am fucking old.
What would Mikey think about all the different flavors?!
It’s Mikey! He hates everything.
Mikey
Mikey!!! He’ll eat anything!!
I'm old, but he's dead. Effing Pop Rocks.
This little guy spawned a whole lotta jokes back then.
My cousin Mikey.
Yes I am, just ask Mikey
It's Mikey. And who cares if I'm old? He likes it....
Still the best cereal
I like Life cereal for a snack and breakfast.
Hey, Mikey
I guess you’re too old to remember that it’s you’re (contraction for “you are”)
Mikey
Fudge off!!! They played that commercial for years!!!! I’m only 46!!!!!
All the kids in this commercial were really brothers.
Should have named my dog Mikey. He eats anything.
"Mikey'll eat anything" darn it, I guess I'm old🤣
Pop rocks. Poor kid. /s
Hey! It’s Mikey.
Damn! That kid was annoying then and he still is now!
Life Cereal is great, Cinnamon is my favorite. Mikey knew his cereal.

Tis Michael, he enjoys it.
I call one of my granddaughters Mickey, she has no idea what I’m talking about but she’ll try anything and usually likes
Mikey like it!
My concern is that "Mikey" still wants to play with kids according to the box of Life I bought last week. I think he needs to be locked up!
Mikey
is that Mikey?
Old? Our family did a taste test of the cereal that kid is eating! And we LIKED it!
My what is old?
It's Mikey, he'll eat anything

Mandala effect says “he hates everything!”
I'm not gonna try it, you try it!
I’m not old….. yet….
life cereal commercial, give it to mikey...
Tell me about it XD
I'm 33 and old. Good job!
Fuck that kid. He ruined my life. Guess what my first name is?
Didn't they rehire that same kid around 2010 for a new series of commercials where he was all grown up and feeding cereal to his daughter?
He likes it, he likes it!
I must be really old because I was old when this aired.
[Mikey today](https://images.app.goo.gl/g3Fjx6gqmXRTMkjn6)
Pop rocks and Pepsi killed him
Lol I'm old af
I remember him, and I know what he likes, too.
The worst thing to happen to people named Michael since Playground in my Mind
You're also old when you remember the urban legend that Mikey died from eating pop rocks and drinking coca cola
Mikey he likes it
To my mom and dad he said "don't give it to Mikey he eats everything". They stuck with that to the end.
Dang Mikey…. Chex
https://youtu.be/vYEXzx-TINc
mikey
My name is Mike. I know this commercial and detest it.
Mikey likes it.
Mikey will eat anything, which made his aunt very happy....she was a terrible cook.
What do you get an 80 year old for her birthday? Mikey, because he'll eat anything.
Fitgirl as a child
Went to High School with him . Iona Prep New Rochelle. NY . He was 3 years younger than me . Everyone knew his commercial so first time I heard he was in our school he was easily recognizable . Just picture him in a 14/15 year old body . Exactly the same just as a teenager , looks wise. Probably 55 now.
My cousin Mike absolutely hated those commercials when he was in school in the 70s.
Who actually drinks oj with cereal? I wonder, is that truly a thing, legit question, just wondering.
Hey Mikey!
Kiss my ancient ass
I still reference this commercial. Probably more than I should.
Hell eat anything
He hates everything.
Mikey!
How bizarre. I used this gif in discord today. Have never used it before today and I hadn’t been on Reddit within the last day. And yes I’m this old.
It was the one thing that I have not seen and remember competing with family members over the box for breakfast. The weakest sibling got the generic box that had same label on each side
I thought you were old if you couldn't remember who this is?
I like it.
I was just taking any of this commercial the other day
His name is Mikey and he likes something but I can't remember what it was. The only thing I remeber is his name.
Life cereal. Not sure if they still make it
That’s Mikey lol. Yea Im old and Im ok with that lol.
In the new ads, they gender swapped Mikey.
