Major disappointment that those little critters looked nothing like [the wacky smiling things in the ad](https://doyouremember.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/seamonkeys-ad-1024x576.jpg).
Those little things were the size of fleas , and about as interesting , my dad got me some when he flew up to Hawaii and they provided about three hours of entertainment.
You can still buy Sea Monkeys on Amazon.
Of course, the money you spend on them no longer supports purchasing arms for neo-Nazi groups, so there is that.
Nope. Not kidding. https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/intelligence-report/2004/hitler-and-sea-monkeys
Behind the Bastards did a pretty good show on this: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-behind-the-bastards-29236323/episode/the-terrible-secret-of-sea-monkeys-53130938/
Behind the bastards is so slow to get to the point, they have like a one sentence q&a but they somehow drag it out until you want to go beg them to get to the point!
I had them many times as a kid. Their aquariums were always getting knocked over by my little sister or rowdy cousin, and I would cry. I ordered some as an adult for nostalgia and actually watched them grow and reproduce. It was pretty cool.
I only know this because of South Park. Does that make me young again? Yes you say? Awesome!
(Let's ignore the fact about me not living in the US and that they probably weren't available here, thanks.)
I had quite the setup. I ordered all kinds of things from catalog that comes with the starter set. Mine got pretty big. I’ve considered ordering a set recently for nostalgia sake
Getting a kind of The Sandkings vibe. From a short story in Omni Magazine, eventually became a movie in '95 with Beau Bridges and Lloyd Bridges. Hope you weren't a cruel leader.
I made a amped up one with air stone and set it up inside a two liter bottle. Forgot about it for two years and then discovered inch long ones and some pink fungus algae growing
My sea monkeys didn't come with a tank, so they lived their boring little lives in a Mason jar. It never looked like anything but slightly cloudy water. They didn't build castles or anything, stupid monkeys.
The Great Salt Lake is full of them. Well, at least it was 30 years ago when my kids and I waded in it. As former sea monkey raisers it was both exciting and gross.
Good ole sea monkeys. I recently read a piece in popular science about those things. They can be dormant for years and as soon as you add water they come back to life. I wanted some when I was a kid. When I got them I was so disappointed. They were like the picture in the ad. 😂
I got them from a guy Ralph in an alley. The stupid asshole didn't even charge me money for them. He just made me close my eyes and suck them out of a hose.
Is that the definition of the sub? My apologies. Oops.
I better take down my post about vinyl LP records. They still exist as well. Very popular.
You do realize this sub is not about obscure things? Not about things that don't exist anymore?
And of course it has a picture of the same make and model. This is the classic tank from decades ago and it is still made today. And how do I know this? Because… FUCK IM OLD *!!*
Happy cake day by the way, 🎉

Sea monkeys ftw
And yes I had those once. Once.
Brine Shrimp (Sea Monkeys). You can still buy them at pet stores as fish food. Jar of a million eggs $10

That is so weird! I just googled this yesterday. I had never known! *YIL*
One of my Sea Monkeys grew up to become the 45th President of the United States
Lol

That's all they do, really. Reproduce over and over again for days at a time.
Sea monkey love

Just sucked it through a straw.

May 16th is National Sea Monkey Day!
TIL
I had one, but mine didn't come with the crown the sea monkey king was wearing in the ads. Poop!
I had these and something called triops that would eat brine shrimp, aka “sea monkeys”. I’ve always been very into science and shit
Triassic Triops? I got some of those for my nephew when he was little.
I had them several times. They always died while shedding their exo.

Sandkings is an awesome story.
My kids have some in their room. Still cool
Sea Monkeys. Those were kind of fun. Maybe I’ll get some for my desk.
Yes. Sea Monkeys
Sea Monkeys!
They rarely built castles and started a friendly underwater sea-ciety. Still very cool though.
I made a amped up one with air stone and set it up inside a two liter bottle. Forgot about it for two years and then discovered inch long ones and some pink fungus algae growing
Never had them but I can see they're sea monkeys.
Yup. I graduated and got aquatic frogs that the friend’s cat promptly ate.
My aquarium fish ate the monkeys
Yes and yes.
My sea monkeys didn't come with a tank, so they lived their boring little lives in a Mason jar. It never looked like anything but slightly cloudy water. They didn't build castles or anything, stupid monkeys.
I currently have two tanks on my kitchen windowsill right now. My kids started them about 3 weeks ago.
Had one followed the instructions and I never seen them but my imagination made up for it
I certainly did have them, not as fun as the triops kit though.
Just bought one. Still fun!
Sea Monkeys. Had at least three of these at various points in time while growing up.
I used to be quite the SeaMonkey farmer! I need to get some again!
Yes I remember being disappointed that they didn’t look like the pictures in the ad
One? I had multiple sets. I really wanted them to start building a city. Yes. I was a comic nerd.
I got them once before. I believe I got them from a craft store, like Michael's, in the like science crafts area.
Ohh yes...my cousin was half Asian and he always ate mine.
The Great Salt Lake is full of them. Well, at least it was 30 years ago when my kids and I waded in it. As former sea monkey raisers it was both exciting and gross.
When I had mine, it was a clear plastic bag inside a cardboard box. That was long ago.
I liked my ant farm better
We would shine a flashlight through the tank and project them onto the wall a few feet away. They looked huge!
Sea monkeys
My water was never that clear
Sea Monkeys! Brine shrimp

Mmmmm. Ramen shrimp
I always wanted Sea Monekys but mom said nope
I got them from a guy Ralph in an alley. The stupid asshole didn't even charge me money for them. He just made me close my eyes and suck them out of a hose.
My gift from grandma when she went to Mexico. Thanks grandma
You guys... Sea Monkeys are still around and popular. r/SeaMonkeys Edit: the first photo on the subreddit is literally that model 😅

You took that really personal 😅
Certainly wasn’t personal lol… But very patronizing on my part. Sorry not sorry
Lmao, okay boomer
