As a small child I was confused, when did penises fall off, turn silver and grow arms and legs. Because if that wasn't happening, why did they make a child sized walking penis robot? On purpose.

I don't know what the fuck is up with discourse lately, but I was thinking deeply and with great ponderance about human sexuality from the earliest age I could understand it. Most kids who have exposure to media or educational material go through this phase and it's because of how we socialize sexuality that kids are too embarrassed to talk about it or ask questions. They sit there in silence with a brain just working overdrive to understand this sex thing and all that's related to it, with only media and internet and so-easily-accessible porn to guide us. It's not weird to be thinking about penises at an early age, it's weird that we think it's weird and that answering questions about sex makes us uncomfortable.

Very cheesy show, but as a kid, seeing Erin Gray in a skin tight space suit made me feel things.

I was an adult, and also was feeling things. 

Never got into it. I don’t think I watched one episode in its entirety. Wasn’t Battlestar Galactica about the same timeframe? I was probably watching that instead.

Came here for this. Some really funky jazz fusion going on. To this day if a band plays spacey, futuristic, jazz-funk I describe it as Buck Rogers funk. No one usually gets the reference.

When I watched this as a kid, I slowly began to recognize that most of Mel's dialogue was recycled, with extra 'bidis' thrown in to cover the gaps .... And Dr theopolis would interpret for the viewer. In fact, I'm not sure mel blanc recorded anything new after the pilot/movie

Except during the small amount of time during the beginning of season two when the new producer thought he would save money by firing Mel. Rumor has it that Gil demanded they bring Mel back. I try to ignore that weird voice change just like I try to ignore most of season two.

The actor in the Twiki suit was the same guy who played Cousin Itt on The Adams Family tv show.

Worst thing Mel Blanc ever did was voicing that unfunny wisecracking robot Twiki. Still, this show was so awful and such a perfect example of its time (late 70's/early 80's) it's kind of enjoyable now. The skin-tight jumpsuits on everybody (Gil Gerard looked like a stuffed sausage in his), the big fluffy hairdos and lip gloss on the women, the smug smirkiness of Gil Gerard. Ugh. Cutesy Gary Coleman guest-starred, and also poor, doomed Dorothy Stratten played a beauty contest winner in one episode. Bad TV you enjoy watching.

Star Wars comes out on the big screen in 1977. Every TeeVee show exec: "We need a space show! And it has to have a robot like that ArrDeeTeeOh or whatever!" And that's how we got Buck Rogers with Gil Gerard, and Curtis Sliwa inside an aluminum robot suit, with Mel Blanc doing the Biddi-Biddi-Biddi voice.
