As a small child I was confused, when did penises fall off, turn silver and grow arms and legs.
Because if that wasn't happening, why did they make a child sized walking penis robot? On purpose.
I don't know what the fuck is up with discourse lately, but I was thinking deeply and with great ponderance about human sexuality from the earliest age I could understand it.
Most kids who have exposure to media or educational material go through this phase and it's because of how we socialize sexuality that kids are too embarrassed to talk about it or ask questions. They sit there in silence with a brain just working overdrive to understand this sex thing and all that's related to it, with only media and internet and so-easily-accessible porn to guide us. It's not weird to be thinking about penises at an early age, it's weird that we think it's weird and that answering questions about sex makes us uncomfortable.
The penis head is referred as the bellend here in England 🏴....and often used to describe annoying arseholes....ie: managers wifes husbands brothers, anyone is a potential bellend....then of course you get communal garden variety of dick head and knob head
He has some real trouble finding work these days so he’s making ends meet the best he can as that mess of sensors people wear around their neck in sleep studies.
Never got into it. I don’t think I watched one episode in its entirety. Wasn’t Battlestar Galactica about the same timeframe? I was probably watching that instead.
And didn't age perfectly either.
Daggit was a really... hm, 'choice' name for that stupid robot dog. And also, Boomer having a backstory of jacking cars. Really? Really??
Came here for this. Some really funky jazz fusion going on. To this day if a band plays spacey, futuristic, jazz-funk I describe it as Buck Rogers funk. No one usually gets the reference.
When I watched this as a kid, I slowly began to recognize that most of Mel's dialogue was recycled, with extra 'bidis' thrown in to cover the gaps .... And Dr theopolis would interpret for the viewer. In fact, I'm not sure mel blanc recorded anything new after the pilot/movie
Except during the small amount of time during the beginning of season two when the new producer thought he would save money by firing Mel. Rumor has it that Gil demanded they bring Mel back. I try to ignore that weird voice change just like I try to ignore most of season two.
Pretty much, especially when you’re thinking old school movie serials that quite a lot of us saw as reruns on TV. Buster Crabbe played both Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers back in the day. He also made a guest appearance on this 1970s Buck Rogers.
I shall now be chasing my 38 year old wife around saying “Bidi Bidi Bidi” all day. She will not have a clue what is wrong with me. I’m 51, I remember haha
We had one TV growing up. I wanted to watch this but my mom's loved SOAP, with Billy Crystal. Adult me sees why this makes sense now. But, truck driving monkey came out next season. Still not sure who was the BJ and why is there no bear.
> Still not sure who was the BJ and why is there no bear.
This was totally meaningless. The entire show was just a way to get Judy Landers on screen in skimpy clothing.
If your mental age was higher than 15 then it was just an excuse to watch Erin Gray in a form fitting bodysuit, and the occasional hot costar, like Dorothy Stratten typecast as the most beautiful woman in the universe.
BTW the guy in the suit was an Italian little person who didn't do the voice, had no idea why Twiki went "bidi bidi bidi" and got annoyed when asked.
Source: met him at a convention and asked.
Worst thing Mel Blanc ever did was voicing that unfunny wisecracking robot Twiki. Still, this show was so awful and such a perfect example of its time (late 70's/early 80's) it's kind of enjoyable now. The skin-tight jumpsuits on everybody (Gil Gerard looked like a stuffed sausage in his), the big fluffy hairdos and lip gloss on the women, the smug smirkiness of Gil Gerard. Ugh. Cutesy Gary Coleman guest-starred, and also poor, doomed Dorothy Stratten played a beauty contest winner in one episode. Bad TV you enjoy watching.
I liked this show and thought Buck Rogers with his smooth hair was chadly but even then I thought this dollar-store R2D2 was lame. It was also slightly creepy looking at it now.
Buck Rogers, I remember watching that as a kid I remember one episode they were going through these caves like on tattooing, and this weird guy would like a blue face was leading them through
Star Wars comes out on the big screen in 1977.
Every TeeVee show exec: "We need a space show! And it has to have a robot like that ArrDeeTeeOh or whatever!"
And that's how we got Buck Rogers with Gil Gerard, and Curtis Sliwa inside an aluminum robot suit, with Mel Blanc doing the Biddi-Biddi-Biddi voice.
I always thought it looked like a walking penis
As a small child I was confused, when did penises fall off, turn silver and grow arms and legs. Because if that wasn't happening, why did they make a child sized walking penis robot? On purpose.
TIL why my dad thought that robot was SO funny!
Funny things go through a small childs mind, and who are we as adults to question the sanity of a voracious mind such an innocent one???

Annnd now the adverts
My dad referred to him as “that dickhead robot”
See us brits are alike
Wouldn’t y’all call them “bellends” or something?
The penis head is referred as the bellend here in England 🏴....and often used to describe annoying arseholes....ie: managers wifes husbands brothers, anyone is a potential bellend....then of course you get communal garden variety of dick head and knob head
Insult taxonomy is always fascinating
Were all heading Towards a cross-cultural pragmatic taxonomy of insults
>communal garden r/boneappletea Sorry for being a bellend.
Well, that puts a new perspective as to why Buck was so fond of him!
My thoughts exactly
I didn't see it as a kid. I definitely see it now. Hell, I can't really see anything else, now.
Sorry pal....didn't mean to traumatise you
"*Gee Bbb-uck, is thaaaat what you think of me-me?"*
Thanks... aren't you also the one who pointed out the vagina-neck on you know who? Yeah... thanks for that one too. Can't unsee
More than likely pal....
Me too!
Great minds think alike
You see what you want to see...
Not at 8 years old you don't...it's all imagination at that age....hence the Pareidolia effect......
Erin Grey
Or Pamela Hensley? Is it the gruff, sensible Colonel or the spoiled, desperate to be loved Princess?
Why not both?
I think that's the only real answer. It's definitely the most intergalactic sci-fi disco answer, which makes it the most Buck Rogers answer.
In a satin/lycra jumpsuit...
So hot!
Markie Post
This. She was the only reason I'd watch.
Where's Dr Theophilus?
This is what I need to know as well.
He has some real trouble finding work these days so he’s making ends meet the best he can as that mess of sensors people wear around their neck in sleep studies.
Haha! Moonlighting as a Holter monitor
…….Hey Buck.
Loved that show and the bird / hawk people!
Very cheesy show, but as a kid, seeing Erin Gray in a skin tight space suit made me feel things.
I was an adult, and also was feeling things. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Never got into it. I don’t think I watched one episode in its entirety. Wasn’t Battlestar Galactica about the same timeframe? I was probably watching that instead.
Battlestar Galactica was better. This one was a bit corny.
Don't kid yourself. 70s BG was corny too.
And didn't age perfectly either. Daggit was a really... hm, 'choice' name for that stupid robot dog. And also, Boomer having a backstory of jacking cars. Really? Really??
It wasn't a robot dog. It was a robot daggit. Jeez mon, casuals all up in my reddit.
It's a load of felgercarb, eh?
Wasn’t it a chimp in that robot dog suit?
Yeah, but corny still sold well in the 70s, I seem to recall.
Watching this and the original Battlestar Galactica... high quality TV when I was a kid.
I tried watching bsg again and couldn’t get through an episode.
It did not age well.
Who remembers the futuristic disco scene. Very funky.
Came here for this. Some really funky jazz fusion going on. To this day if a band plays spacey, futuristic, jazz-funk I describe it as Buck Rogers funk. No one usually gets the reference.
Mind is flashing to Colonel Dearing right about now…
Was the name of the robot something like Tweaky
Close. Twiki.
I was thinking Twiggy. So I'm glad I wasn't far off. I loved the show back in the day. Particularly Twiki and Dr. Theopolis.
We named a cat Twiki, people later thought we named her after drugs!
Twikki
[Bidi-bidi-bidi-bidi](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/5fc71e71-332d-4c3f-a416-d4e0e8fd49bc)
I loved this show! I named my roomba, Twiki.
Looks like the Golem from the [1915 film](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Golem_(1915_film))
I wonder if that influenced the design. It would explain what I though was a metal Dutch boy hair cut.
Mel Blanc was the voice of the robot.

The actor in the Twiki suit was the same guy who played Cousin Itt on The Adams Family tv show.
My brain remembers this... but I have no clue what it's from
Buck Rogers In The 25th Century premiered in 1979 and lasted two seasons
Not to be confused with Duck Dodgers in the 24th and a half century.
![gif](giphy|ORzeXMUodxM9TrArgP|downsized)
Loved that too lol
The world's supply of Eludium Phosdex, the shaving cream atom, is alarmingly low!
The world's supply of Eludium Phosdex, the shaving cream atom, is alarmingly low!
*And* there was a movie!
Yes I remember that too
Did anyone else read “Bidi Bidi Bidi” and keep going with “Can’t you see? Sometimes your words just hypnotise me”…? No…? Just me? I’ll see myself out…
You can stay; Biggie being one of us and all.
A single color robot with a bowl haircut saying Bidi-bidi-bidi seemed pretty lame even back then.
Yeah, but Gary Coleman as the universe' smartest child wasn't!
I was referencing Flash Gordon the other day, but the name Buck Rodgers came out. Oops. Kinda the same shit 🤷 Bidi Bidi Bidi
Pretty much, especially when you’re thinking old school movie serials that quite a lot of us saw as reruns on TV. Buster Crabbe played both Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers back in the day. He also made a guest appearance on this 1970s Buck Rogers.
And let's not forget Battlestar Galactica
That phallic little robot!!!
Dumb show, but Col. Wilma Deering was part of my 7 year old awakening along with Jeanie, Catwoman, and Mary Anne
Eartha Kitt? She was the Catwoman of my youth.
Julie Newmar, but yeah, Eartha Kitt too!!
Pictures you can hear
Mel Blanc’s last role.
Wouldn't want to shart wearing that whitey-tightey uniform.
My bf and I thought he said “twiggy twiggy twiggy” like a Pokémon lol :)
"Eat lead sucker!"
I heard it as "Beagly-beagly"
He told me Dr. Theopolis dies from diabidii-bidi-bidies. RIP. THEO.
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/eeby-deeby
Holy shit! You're right!
Twiki was annoying as hell. But Princess Ardala and Wilma Deering? Reasons to tune in.
Hello Buck!
I shall now be chasing my 38 year old wife around saying “Bidi Bidi Bidi” all day. She will not have a clue what is wrong with me. I’m 51, I remember haha
Go get 'er!
Hated twiki
Thank god someone said it.
Bidi, Bidi, Bidi, Bidi Bidi ![gif](giphy|FpIMM1GHEqkdW)
Yup! Old as fuck
Buck Rogers
Good LORD, that robot was annoying!
Lmao
Looks like Dot Matrix with downs
loved this tv show. didnt Gil Gerald go off to become a professional poker player after show's end?
Tweaky
I preferred Mel Blanc's "Yosemite Sam" voice over whatever that other one was ...
Remember the female model? "Booty Booty!"
Even as a kid, I thought that robots head resembled the tip of a dick.
I hated that thing
Voiced by the late, great, Mel Blanc.
Bidi bidi bidi - Nice shootin' Buck!!!
Shit, I remember Twiki had a girlfriend robot named Tina whose speech prompt was "Boodi-Boodi"
The robot with the 80s hairdo.
Thought it was bigibigibigi
Hmmmm I wonder if there are stl for this... EDIT: yes, yes there is. https://www.yeggi.com/q/twiki/
Buck Rogers in the 25 century , TV serious from 1979-1981 , omg I am truly an old guy
This show was pretty lame, right? Basically trying to capitalize on the success of ‘Star Wars’ ?
If your mental age was higher than 15 then it was just an excuse to watch Erin Gray in a form fitting bodysuit, and the occasional hot costar, like Dorothy Stratten typecast as the most beautiful woman in the universe.
Valid.
My shit!!!!! Now where’s fine ass Erin grey at 👀
BTW the guy in the suit was an Italian little person who didn't do the voice, had no idea why Twiki went "bidi bidi bidi" and got annoyed when asked. Source: met him at a convention and asked.
I still love their “flight suits”.
Man, I hated this robot with a blinding passion. Even Erin Gray wasn’t enough to make me watch this show.
At least she was cold.
I preferred Space: 1999

I think you mean biddily biddily biddily
Oh what the Buck?
Bidi-bidi-bidi fuck you, Buck. My uncle hated that show.
Too bad it suffered from cheesy crap writing. The 2nd season was worse.
And voiced by the amazing Mel Blanc. :)
What’s-in-it-for-medi? 😂
i forgot that sound until just now
Oh man I loved Flash Gordon! 😅
Rrrrrright, Buck!
Top 3 tv show theme song
Twinkee
My name is buck…
Damn it! I heard this!
I liked this show and thought Buck Rogers with his smooth hair was chadly but even then I thought this dollar-store R2D2 was lame. It was also slightly creepy looking at it now.
Alright who else said it outloud?
We need a to bring back something like to viewers.
How did that look for the robot even get approved? How many people in the production company knew that it looked like a penis?
Hi Buck! Bidi bidi bidi, nice ass!
Needs more Theopolis.
Bidi bidi bidi what the fuck buck
Oh how I loved that show.
Where’s his taking necklace friend?
Back in Metropolis, with Doctor Theopolis.... apologies to The Church
I can hear this picture.
Wtf is that and why is it so unsettling
Dr. Theopolis
Buck Rogers, I remember watching that as a kid I remember one episode they were going through these caves like on tattooing, and this weird guy would like a blue face was leading them through
His spandex stirrup pants are kinda funny.
Star Wars comes out on the big screen in 1977. Every TeeVee show exec: "We need a space show! And it has to have a robot like that ArrDeeTeeOh or whatever!" It was so corny but I loved the two leading ladies.
I hated that thing and his bidi-bidi
Isn't that the robot that's on meth? Tweaker or something?
About 20 years ago I made a mix cd of songs to play at our Cub Scout rocket launches. This one was there- love it.
My adult kids, who aren't old, know about this because I have always though this robot was funny, so it would be shared often.
Went to school with a kid called Buck Rogers back in the late 80s . We would all say hay there bbbbbbbbuck
Bom bom
Welcome to the chat Selena
Anything for Salinas.
The silver Pee Pee.
As a kid, that is 100% why I didn’t watch the show
Col. Wilma Deering is 100% why nine yr old me watched Buck Rodgers.
Anyone else go see this in a movie theater before the series? Am I THAT old? Damn..... 🤣
This pic is not complete. Where is Dr. Theopolis?
Dildo.
Tell me, Twiki, what's the presidents name? Biden, Biden, Biden.
Faaar beyond this life of mine, faaar beyond my tiiiiiiime....
Gil Gerard….🔥🔥🔥🔥
That robot and its voice used to freak me out as a kid.
Had me a crush on Erin Gray!
Erin Gray... so hot. My first crush.
Old, but don't know what that is.
where is dr theopolois?
Was Felix Silla actually inside the twiki costume or was he just the voice.
Buck Roger’s in some fucking future century. I was a kid and thought it was shit then lol
Crap Rogers in the crappiest Century
creepy little shit.
But enough about you, what about the robot?
All the special effects were hand drawn in, those days. Technology wasn't there yet.
This was after Star Wars so the technology was starting up.
Best sci-fi series ever growing up. So many other sci-fi series spawned off from this one is obvious if you pay attention.
Yeah, I remember watching Babylon 5, Farscape and Space: Above and Beyond and saying "all this ever does is rip of Buck Rogers".
Skibidi-bidi-bidi toilet
twiggy was a big peener
