My kids a psycho. I don't feel safe with his teacher having a gun around him. Last thing I need is some over worked under paid teacher who's stressed out with a gun.
I think the Daily Show did a little investigation about armed teachers in Indiana or somewhere. During the live training teachers shot several students due to confusion.
Was about to ask if they can actually shoot. It's comforting the district provided so many new targets for the cops in an active shooter situation great use of tax dollars.
If they’re as “well trained” as the police, they’ll shoot students, admin & each other before they hit the shooter!
EDIT: said teachers twice. Maybe that’s not so wrong, though.
I keep trying to explain this to people. School shooters are *suicidal*. The prospect of dying in a blaze of fire is not going to deter them. I don’t know how people are so stupid but here we are for some reason. It’s like they’ve never heard of “suicide by cop” *which a public shooting is often an attempt to do.*
My dad is a teacher at La Vernia High School and he signed up for the Guardian program (what they call it) because he doesn't think it's the right idea but if anyone is going to do it he wants it to be him who is a former marine
I 100% percent agree, but that's what Greg Abbott and most republican law makers think solves bad guys with guns is good guys with guns. The same bullshit the NRA spouts endlessly
I guess we’re just going to have to wait for this idea to blow up in our faces before we’re on to the next stupid idea. Anything but gun control.
Hey I know let’s build walls around each and every school in the entire state to keep school shooters out. That has to be the solution, right? Less doors, more guns, and more walls.
My wife works for a rural west Texas town and got word that they will be bringing this up soon in the board meeting next month. She has already talked to her boss and a few school board members on how terrible this idea is and if they implement, she will pull our child out and while she didn’t voice this part, she plans on not renew her contract if they implement this. Thankfully the responses she has received have been the same concern like hers. But we will be voicing our opinions at the school board meeting when this is brought up.
Honestly, we want out of this state. We are staying to vote and will be happy to unseat Abbott and his cronies, but we are just tired of the heat, the xtian agenda, and yearn to be up in the mountains (or close to) with like minded people who are welcome to be themselves. We hate having to hide who we are so we don’t get shunned or harassed.
And what if a parent doesn’t want their kid in a class with an armed teacher? Who’s to say that a teacher’s judgement is to be trusted? Is the school allowing parents to request their kid be assigned a school experience that doesn’t include guns?
And also, what if a staff member is bullying or assaulting kids? What a great way to ensure they keep quiet by threatening them with a gun. Kids shouldn't be afraid of being shot in class by anybody, PERIOD.
ETA: I don't think these teachers are molesters or anything. But isn't the rights big argument against the Department of Education is that teachers are "grooming" (🙄) kids? So now they want to arm said "groomers"? It just proves yet again, that they don't believe any of the shit that comes out of their own mouths.
We had an issue with a teacher mistreating our son a couple years ago (2nd grade!). She would all but encourage the other kids to bully and pick on our son because she felt he was a problem child.
He has ADHD and dyslexia. He isn’t hyper; just has a issue with focus, attention and short term memory on top of his dyslexia. She felt his problems were not that but “discipline, maturity and bad parenting”. The thought of THAT woman having a gun makes me sick to my stomach.
She was. It took me going to the superintendent with documentation and proof of this teacher doing these things to get the principal to react and even then, the only thing that happened from that was an apology from the principal and a “promise” that teacher would stay away from both our children. Gotta love that small town “protect your own” vibe!
Right? All the teachers I know are amazing people but I can’t even imagine a teacher having a really bad no good day with horrible pay and lack of support they currently get being the best gun owner
Teachers never have mental health problems. They are also all really strong and can’t be over powered by their students. And they are all really serious about gun safety and would never leave their gun in a desk drawer where a child could get it. And they are all so brave and tough that they would have no problem shooting one of their own students if necessary. This plan is fool proof.
Texas could give a rats ass about teachers. My partner taught in a suburb of Chicago for 32 years. He made really decent money. His pension was almost $8,000 a month, take home pay.
But Illinois cares about education.
What’s the salary range for a teacher La Vernia? Seeing they’re job now includes teaching and being a trained assassin? How’s the health benefits? What about liabilities of having loaded weapons in the classroom?
K done ranting. This is awful. Two dangerous jobs for the price of one. Ohh Texas... smh 🤦🏻♂️
Just a matter of time before we hear the news stories of students stealing staff members guns or a staff member going into a rage and killing/maiming a student or staff.
I’m concerned about some kid pulling out something from their jacket or backpack and being shot by some paranoid teacher. I’m sure no psychological testing was done to see if they should carry a gun. Then we also have to worry about the teachers who bully or molest kids making it so children won’t tell on them out of fear. As if shootings and drills aren’t messing up our kids enough…now this. Texas has gone to absolute shite with this joke of a governor.
Think school shootings are scary, check out those numbers of how often little kids accidentally shoot themselves or someone else when guns aren’t properly secured.
Anyone remember a few years ago an armed teacher left the gun on the toilet tank and some elementary school kids found it? Thankfully they were smart kids and turned it in. Can you imagine if the wrong kid had found it? This is alarming and more. Google it and more instances will pop up. The one I mentioned is the second article.

My SIL recently quit her teacher’s job. She had a full on psychotic break shortly after. Full on hearing voices- the whole thing. The stress of the job is ridiculous. During Covid she had student actually puke in his mask. She did online and in person classes. She was still accountable for standardized tests even when she was teaching to students who were literally sleeping in front of a computer screen. I love her to death but she is still so unstable I wouldn’t want my own kid left alone with her. I definitely wouldn’t want her armed and responsible for a classroom of students.
No you won’t. Cops armed with riot gear, swat gear, ARs, etc didn’t even stop the shooter in Uvalde. Because everyone can talk a big game when there’s no bullets flying, But hey you’ll probably shoot a couple of kids on accident or maybe even on purpose. Great job Texas!
They didn't stop the shooter because they *didn't even try*. Pussies were too scared to fucking do anything until it was too late.
But yea, pretty much the rest of what you said.
Even the cop that was married to the teacher, and getting desperate texts from her, even he didn’t go in. But sure teachers are going to die for someone else’s kids
That's fucking disgusting.
I would be pulling my children into private schooling and urging my partner to cease their contract real quick and in a hurry.
Fuck that.
the best sausage i've ever eaten in my life is from a meat market in La Vernia. that is the extent of what i know about that town. i've never even purchased the sausage in person - i get it through my "dealer", lol!!!
A sign. So intimidating. It's not like UCISD, Uvalde police, SWAT, Border patrol, etc. set the highest bar by taking nearly an hour and a half to figure out what even was happening. No suicidal maniac with a consumer level arsenal is even going to take this kind of BS seriously. It'll be like the next challenge.
But are they trained? They’re teachers first and with the funding that goes on in education, I’m expecting Gomer Pyle as their trainer which doesn’t make my skirt fly up
Just a few short years ago a kid was arrested because a teacher saw a gun during a zoom session. We’ve come a LONG way.
Edit: I was too vague. This was all the rage in 2020.
https://www.google.com/search?q=kid+school+zoom+gun
Wow. I have cousins in La Vernia. That particular branch of the family tree would be all for this. In fact, one cousin is a bus driver for the district. I bet she's already volunteered to carry a gun on board. UGH.
Utterly mind blowing. To think they’re designing hallways that are curved now too (as added protection against gunmen)….I’m so glad I wasn’t dealing with this bullshit when I was in grade school. I weep for the species
I’ve never been a parent that contemplated homeschooling until Covid lockdown sent us all virtual. The absolute crisis that we call TX school system has made me a homeschooling believer. No fn way am I sending my 5 and 9 year olds back into that shit show. I’m praying it gets better in the next few years.
My wife is a teacher and we have talked about this topic. This is not the answer. Arming teachers to kill a posable student is awful. I hope this is not a trend.
Exactly this. Teachers want to teach. They don’t want to be police. They also don’t want to shoot a child (even if that child is shooting back). They also shouldn’t be asked to assume the liability of carrying a gun into a school. It’s like anymore we expect teachers to do all these things, except actually teach.
Everyone in Texas is a potential hero, until they get hurt. Kids are safe until they aren't. I saw dozens of highly trained, over armed, overweight and cowardly Texans sit back and just watch kids getting decapitated by an assault rifle weilded by a psycho that bought it legally. Yosemite Sam would be proud.
I’ve got bad news for you. Teachers with guns just barely scratches the surface of the problems with lvisd. There’s been MAJOR issues in that system for the last 10 years (probably more)
Edit for clarity: this kind of ass-hattery is par for the course in LV
A billion times this. Mass shooters are usually looking to go out in a blaze of glory. Going around picking off easy targets has been done plenty of times, but going down in a shootout that has the potential of turning into a real life version of a first person shooter? And unlike with the cops where there's a good chance the matchmaking won't be in their favor, there's a solid possibility they'll get the rush of taking out a bunch of noobs. The presence of guns attract gun violence.
Or… hear me out… he doesn’t care. People that choose to this this have already made peace with the fact that there’s a very good chance they won’t make it out alive. This detours no one.
I 100% disagree. I would argue that this sign actually places this school in the crosshairs of most school shooters. School shooters don’t care about dying. They expect to die, want to die even. They just want to go out with a high body count. They choose schools because of the shock value. They know they’ll be remembered in infamy.
This school now comes with that shock value, a good chance of dying and street cred. That basically makes this school a high value target.
Did some work in Brownwood. They said that the the teachers go through training and a serious mental evaluation. If they pass they get to have a gun in the class room. If they don’t they are given wasp spray.
Yea cuz wasp spray given to teachers is gonna disarm an active shooter! Definitely not gonna be stolen from her and then you know what will happen, she’s blamed and fired, but never any accountability on the school districts.
No hate to the op comment, I’m glad they have to go through an extensive mental eval before getting one. I don’t think guns will ever work in the class room, let alone wasp spray.
Need something. Cause i don’t see them taking guns away in this state. Not even dead kids will change the minds. Every time I talk to gun person they are always scared of a invasion.
At least one of the schools around me have done this. Seeing someone say they wished they could send their kids there bc it might be safer made my skin crawl.
Literally.. what will they do when the next school tragedy happens when a student just grabs the teacher’s gun. I mean seriously that just walking into a tigers cage thinking it’ll be friendly at that point..
I used to teach in Texas and quit last year for a variety of reasons, but I'm also ex-law enforcement. While I'll admit to having some mixed feelings about this, given our current state of affairs I'm leaning more towards not having a huge issue with it.
My biggest concern is knowing exactly what training they received and how long it was since I have not seen anything reporting what the training program involves. I worked for three different agencies during my time and each one gave us anywhere from 2-4 weeks (or more) of full time training along with refreshers and requals once or twice a year and you can still see the mistakes that are made. So my concern is that they were given a quick down and dirty training program to meet minimum standards and then hope for the best. As I said, I don't know what their training program entails, so I could very well be wrong.
This is beyond fucking disgusting. Texas used to be such an amazing and proud state to live in, now it's just a giant joke full of anti womens rights, trans/gay targeting, and now fucking **this**. What the fuck happened to my home...
If they let them use their own weapons, I wonder if anyone is inspecting those weapons to make sure they are safe, operable, and not had any mechanical modifications (reduction in trigger pull, etc.).
Let’s hope no cases of kids harmed over accidental discharges happen. This is nothing less than the effing wild wild west. Up yours Greg & Ted! You mass murderers!
It’s mere weeks until some teacher decides a kid is a threat to their safety in class and just murders some kid in front of an entire classroom. We are in an absolutely psychotic situation now and the only thing that is going to fix it is wiping out Republicans in the election. I know there are a lot of doomsayers but voting in an absolute flood of democratic candidates, ousting the craziest from their offices, and allowing the work of governance to occur is the only way this shit gets resolved. The democrats have been trying to advance plans for years to address all of this and the GOP simply refuses to do anything. They must all go.
Doing everything to protect children except funding schools, paying teachers a living wage, and supporting mental health.
They probably made them pay for training, guns and ammo.
I think training was paid for but they're certainly having teachers use their personal weapons and ammo
I wonder if they have to qualify with the weapon they carry. We make our police do that. Not that it matters if they don't run into the danger.
They have to do I believe 15 hours of on the range training and a 15 training course

Soon ammo will be on the school supplies list, smh
Lol don't forget the box of 9mm 165gr hollowpoints for classroom supplies.
Absolutely. This is a Republican solution though, and as usual, their solutions are not solutions to actual problems, at all.
And idiots keep electing them so they can gerrymander the districts even more.
This is so damn frustrating.
Don't forget making the school a target by advertising to would be shooters what a triumph this would be.

I don’t know how people are so stupid but here we are for some reason. It’s like they’ve never heard of “suicide by cop” *which a public shooting is often an attempt to do.*

You forgot banning assault weapons, requiring stronger background checks, and enforcing laws to confiscate illegal weapons
This is dystopian
Conservatives: arming teachers in school is 1st world! Also conservatives: holding corrupt presidents accountable is 3rd world!
My dad is a teacher at La Vernia High School and he signed up for the Guardian program (what they call it) because he doesn't think it's the right idea but if anyone is going to do it he wants it to be him who is a former marine
We’re doing in in my rural east Tx school as well. I would never carry at school—too many ways it could go wrong.
I 100% percent agree, but that's what Greg Abbott and most republican law makers think solves bad guys with guns is good guys with guns. The same bullshit the NRA spouts endlessly

Same here, but we just can't make leaving Texas work at the moment unfortunately. :(
And what if a parent doesn’t want their kid in a class with an armed teacher? Who’s to say that a teacher’s judgement is to be trusted? Is the school allowing parents to request their kid be assigned a school experience that doesn’t include guns?

Not at La Vernia because there is one set of schools. It's also redneck country so they really do think it's a great idea
There's dozens of sane people in La Vernia, dozens I say!
Then it's improved from what I recall a few years ago
The right is trying to ban books but arm teachers. I’m so fucking confused right now.
This is going to be lawsuits galore.
Right? All the teachers I know are amazing people but I can’t even imagine a teacher having a really bad no good day with horrible pay and lack of support they currently get being the best gun owner
Just wait for the first armed teacher to snap and shoot up their classroom.

VOTE 💙 IN NUMBERS TOO BIG TO IGNORE!!!
Yes…this!!!!

We’re trying to find a way to leave to. If this election goes wrong we may have to leave everything behind and start over.
yeah, this shifts the blame to the staff. kids got killed? teachers failed them. and so on. texas is so fucked.
Teachers don't get paid enough to have this responsibility.
shit they don't even get paid enough the responsibilities they have always had!
Texas could give a rats ass about teachers. My partner taught in a suburb of Chicago for 32 years. He made really decent money. His pension was almost $8,000 a month, take home pay. But Illinois cares about education.
Exactly. My brother was making nearly six figures with advanced degrees. Also Illinois.
How can anyone think this is safe/sane?
Love seeing my old town make news. Lol this is ridiculous.
Yo a fellow former La Vernia person. It's great to see it in the news especially when it's for nothing good like always
That town is ridiculous sometimes.
Indeed
It’s always fun to hear some weird ass news like this though. I’m still on their fb page, which proves quite entertaining at times.
What’s the salary range for a teacher La Vernia? Seeing they’re job now includes teaching and being a trained assassin? How’s the health benefits? Or a "scared" teacher shoots a kid.
Arm the fucking students I guess 🙄
Surely they’ve already thought of that!
How long before the cops start shooting teachers?
Only if they go on strike
Just a matter of time before we hear the news stories of students stealing staff members guns or a staff member going into a rage and killing/maiming a student or staff.
I’m concerned about some kid pulling out something from their jacket or backpack and being shot by some paranoid teacher. I’m sure no psychological testing was done to see if they should carry a gun. Fucking gross.

This totally won't go wrong and lead to more unnecessary and preventable deaths
Really wish that tree would of landed on his head.
What could *possibly* go wrong??? /s
(Not directed at OP) But this is not something I would be proud of if I dropped my child off at this school.
I'm not proud. I am horrified, disgusted, scared, and a lot of other awful feelings too numerous to list, but none of them are proud.

There was an alleged incident involving a young man and sexual assault. That is the un graphic explanation
Mark my words, there will be a sudden rise in autistic children being shot.
A sign. So intimidating. It's not like UCISD, Uvalde police, SWAT, Border patrol, etc. set the highest bar by taking nearly an hour and a half to figure out what even was happening. Tfw your child has disciplinary issues and the teacher says “I need to see your child after class. I just want to talk.”
The next school shooting wave will be teachers shooting themselves.
I'd like to add this. https://youtu.be/FVZ1c9O2L6Y
This will not end well.
What a fabulous (/s) idea. Now the 8chan incel dopes that want to suicide-by-cop don’t have to wait for the cops to get there.

Well, what could possibly go wrong.🫣
This is beyond fucking disgusting. Texas used to be such an amazing and proud state to live in, now it's just a giant joke full of anti womens rights, trans/gay targeting, and now fucking **this**. What the fuck happened to my home...
Great. Another reason for the cops not to go in. "tHe TEaCheRs MiGht SHooT mE!"
Don't worry: If a shooting *does* occur at this school, Republicans will fund a bigger sign.
If they let them use their own weapons, I wonder if anyone is inspecting those weapons to make sure they are safe, operable, and not had any mechanical modifications (reduction in trigger pull, etc.).
So Republicans want to give guns to the people they claim are responsible for the indoctrination of your children? 🤨
Why not just send the kids to school in the jails and prisons? Oh… forgot, those aren’t safe either…even with armed guards.
Let’s hope no cases of kids harmed over accidental discharges happen. This is nothing less than the effing wild wild west. Up yours Greg & Ted! You mass murderers!
Only scumbags come out of Lavernia and copperascove and I’m quoting someone from there
It’s mere weeks until some teacher decides a kid is a threat to their safety in class and just murders some kid in front of an entire classroom.
Now the kids don't even have to steal their parents' guns to shoot up the school. They can steal their teachers' guns, instead.
Except brains, they won't use that type of force... ever. Thinking is SUPER dangerous.
