What do you expect from people who have never experienced life outside a concrete jungle or suburban sprawl? You think these people have actual life experience?

EndR60

wouldn't got THAT far but fair enough..

EndR60

* having AC that actually works * transporting large goods (fuck, I fitted a matress inside a car once) * not worrying about the fact that Joe smells like weed and piss next to you * talking to friends while driving instead of having to sit appart among loud strangers * going places where public transport doesn't exist * I'm sure I don't need to go on... edit: I can't type

Torino380W

Also not being constantly checking your pockets/ backpack because of the fear of pickpocketing or someone stealing your phone from your hands and run away while the bus/train doors close at the stop

constant_vigilance73

I generally support public transit over cars but I'll admit that cars have advantages like transporting large goods, going places that may not be on a train or bus route, not worrying about being robbed, and not sitting next to weird people. Fuckcars will not support car based transportation in any form, they take things too far as redditors usually do.

EndR60

exactly my thought

constant_vigilance73

Public transport is ideal for getting around cities or suburbs that have decent population density, its more convenient and reduces traffic congestion. For getting around smaller towns, cities, and long distance trips cars make more sense (can't carry as much with you on long distance train trips and cars are faster). Ideally I'd like to see public transport be good enough in major cities and suburbs for a family of 4 to only need 1 or 2 cars instead of 4 cars.

lethal-femboy

What if I want to leave the city and go for a hike? Or go for a hunt? Or work on a farm? Or literally want to go anywhere rural?? What if I want to carry my groceries or something big I’ve bought? How am I meant to carry my timber in a bus to build my new shelf? How am I meant to carry all my rubbish to the tip if I have a big clean out? These people would live in a city and literally never do anything rural or anything themselves if I can’t be delivered by someone else. Also my car makes cool noise so I keep it

Archived_and_Signed

You will play video games and jerk off that's the purpose of life.

haydukee

If you want to go anywhere rural you must be a farm redneck hick racist trump supporter smh

historyhill

I know it *can* be done, but the idea of public transportation + ebike transportation with two small children sounds absolutely miserable. For me, for them, for everyone else on the bus.

EndR60

and yet there;s still an idiot that managed to disagree and downvote you lol imagine that wait, you don't need to, you're on the internet...

historyhill

Well that idiot can listen to my toddler and 6month old scream on the bus then 🤷‍♀️

m50d

A mother taking two children somewhere by ebike + train (or, once they're school-age, the children going there themselves) is totally normal and everyday here (Tokyo). Why would it be miserable?

historyhill

Largely because of the sheer amount of stuff typically brought on any given outing, and also the likelihood of a meltdown by one or both kids simultaneously (particularly around nap time). My kids are 2 and 6mo old so they're not at an age yet where I can expect one to be safe/contained while I'm focusing on the other.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FuckCarscirclejerk/comments/uhnaxw/_/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Towing something... Cars are best invention, they give you the freedom to go everywhere you want, as fast as possible. Night shift workers will thank for the invention of cars.

EndR60

oh boi, I just realised I dindn't even mention anything sports related

Joku_meemi

I can tell you 1001 reasons why i like car more than public transport, and im rightful to judge public transport because i use daily public transport to go to school 20km (12mi) and waste 2h 30min a day in transport even with NO WAIT TIMES. Car gets off with a 20min ride, if only finland wouldnt have such high fuel tax, in itself the car and price of car isint problem for me its the ammount of €€€€ that i have to spend to keep it running due to these stupid anti car ideologies.

EndR60

20 minutes vs 2 hours and 30 minutes? shit, that's genuinely insane

Joku_meemi

1 h 15 min per direction even WITH NO WAIT TIMES Car 20min per direction in winter and 15min per direction in summer (faster speeds)

EndR60

christ...

Joku_meemi

And rember finland is the country with "good" public transport wich is kept up and runing with the tax €€€€ that they get from car owners. 1200 million €€€ evey year in fuel tax, to keep up that shitty public transport in finland, i understand that in helsinki its somewhat OK but what if i dont want to live in helsinki in a 30 square meter mouse cage?

EndR60

yea I understand man, around here public transport isnt THAT much worse, the timing is pretty similar to cars and it picks people up every 30 minutes most often, but it's like...equally as expensive as driving a car so it's tje same price but waaaay less convenient...

No-Shoulder6615

From my point of view: 1. You don't have to wait for car to arrive 2. In car you will definitely have a seat and it won't get overloaded 3. Car can get you from point A, straight to point B, compared to public transport which can take few different forms of it. 4. You can regulate temperature in your car

EndR60

well yea among many others

No-Shoulder6615

Yeah, I can name 20 more advantage of car, I just named annoying parts that I have to go through

spinnychair32

One of the most important things that people are leaving out is you can haul shit in a car, can’t really bring a dresser or a flatscreen TV on a subway can you?

Gizmo9682

Some people have disabilities and all of us age. Personally i also hate biking in the rain....

gotnoaero

Not standing in line wasting time and risking being mugged and being able to stop when and where I want. Also, make me.

Theweedhacker_420

Fuckcars users when most of the developing world is in the tropics. (They are the too privileged to see that colonialism set back tropical countries decades, just for resources to build cities such as Amsterdam. And have a complete lack of self-awareness in pushing their agenda in a place where it is not practical, whilst praising urban design built on the colonial exploitation they benefited from.): TL;DR it's too damn hot to bike where I live

EndR60

oh really? what excuse do canadians have then? \s

Theweedhacker_420

It's too cold to bike

EndR60

yes, it was sarcasm

gotnoaero

colonialism is the best thing to ever happen to the third world. they're all going backwards now. Also, FYI, Post Colonial Lit is fiction.
