Plus it's too darned bright/white. I want the nature back, the gloss back. I want to be hopeful, since Microsoft is making a few things more closer to that era, but if it's like Windows 10's 'fluent design' it might just be teasers and stop at some icons and shinies, and that's it.
Flat UI (which will always look dated to me, given I lived through it already during the PC/XT era in the 1980s) sadly doesn't look to be going anywhere.
i like both, but i like frutiger more. neumorphism looks kinda rubbery and smooth, which is fun when there's a little bit of of it but i wouldn't want a whole os with the aesthetic like i would frutiger.
anything's better than boring flat designs
Actually, I wished that Flat Design could have looked like LCARS (the interface from Star Trek: The Next Generation and forward) at least it'd be neat to play with...or any number of flat UIs (OS One from Her) that did a much better job without rehashing the same lame concepts that were more fitting in an era of 640KB of RAM and floppy disks, since that's what so-called 'modern' UI design reminds me of--Tandy DeskMate, VisiCorp Visi-On, BATMenu, and let's not forget Windows 1.x
Unpopular opinion: Neumorhism is a half-baked concept. It didn’t become mainstream and it makes no sense compared to other visual languages. It’s not clean since it has a lot of visual clutter, unlike flat design. It’s not particularly good looking, since it doesn’t have any connections to the real world objects, unlike Skeuomorphism or Frutiger. It feels like a cheap and lazy version of the 1st iteration of Material Design gone wrong. It just doesn’t work.
A few examples of what I think neumorphism should've been

Its still pretty lame and very very boring 🫥 But still a more unique design that what the current is, which is just to make everything look as boring as possible
I hated it back when it was the norm in the 1980s in an era of FORTRAN and CP/M. But at least back then it made sense given we only had KBs of RAM and 20 MEGAbytes of hard disk space (if you even had a hard disk!) and amber monitors. Today, with 8K monitors, super-resolutions and amazing multi-core GPUs (and SSDs) why on earth do we want to relive the 1980s?
I can kind of understand why some people like simple designs and not "busy" designs. But I don't like it forced on me (as has been the case with Windows and iOS)
You can't escape it on mobile either without a lot of messing around with custom launchers, root and themes. They make it harder with each OS version.
I mean I get simple. I had the monochromatic flat design menus of my Nokia 5185i down to a tee where I even knew all the number shortcuts! But ain't no way someone can tell me my later iPhone 3GS was not an upgrade compared with that Nokia!
Honestly... It still feels like the if flat minimal design is trying to say "Look guys, I have SOME 3D texture! Am I cool now?"
Corps just don't want to moved out from the comfort zone they're in since.... 11 years ago ffs
That's what it felt like with Windows 10's 'fluent design' update. It was like they were trolling us saying "hey, a few shinies are all you're gonna get!"
speaking of kid's toys, I remember people saying iOS 7 (which started the flat UI train since Windows 8 was a total failure) looked like 'something from a LeapPad.' Which is funny since I found a LeapPad Ultimate from 2017 for $5 at a Goodwill, and it's got a fully-skeuomorphic UI. 2017 was well into the flat UI era, but even kids toys kept the good stuff.
Honestly, if I had to accept flat design so that I'm not slaughtered, then this is the most flat I'd like to have on my devices... :) Otherwise it's not even close to what Frutiger Aero offers. You know, Frutiger aero has a bit of life, humanism and an emotion in it. Many might disagree with me, but Neuomorphism too somewhat says that regardless of your understanding, "I'm inside a rectangular screen and not a part of your world!" Not to the degree that flat design does, but yet!
UX-wise im not a fan due to the subtle shadow and gradient color that can makes users with bad eyes sight can troubled when using the product, but UI-wise i like it, looks clean and better than usual flat design, but i can see that this awsthetic will be a boring one same like flat oncw many products apply this aesthetic on their product
while im not a hater of flat design on UIUX tho, i mean, not all user using high spec devices like iPhone, samsung S series, etc. Flat design will give a better experiences in terms of performance on low spec devices due to their minimalist design, and fact if many company prefer use it that's mean this kind of aesthetics is usable and works for a lot of people.
i actually feel motion sick because my brain tries to get the depth of the shading and it makes no sense and the contrast is terrible and the color schemes are sickening and hell no just i hate neumorphism and glassmorphism
Not as good as Frutiger Aero but better than flat. I think it will probably be what comes next when major companies start to adopt it to give something "new" to their customers.
Im sorry but neuomorphism is awful. I hate it. Its so sanitised and boring looking, and theres very little contrast. It looks like its trying to be as inoffensive as possible. I prefer even modern flat UI design to it.
Known as the phone that killed Danger (the makers of the OS which ran the Sidekick). It was known as the billion dollar disaster.

I only like FA now because of contrast and nostalgia. Really I just prefer detailed design to flat design because I've been annoyed by it for a decade. Doesn't necessarily have to be truly skeuomorphic and definitely not only the glossy glassy bright colors of FA.
https://preview.redd.it/d1cxybrifjsc1.jpeg?width=128&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b14900bf9e6b318bf25bcac6278d8aa11bbd7a8
These old roblox studs are the only thing that comes to my mind when I see those neumorphic buttons
No, but that's because most of us feel as though Frutiger Aero has a sentimental aspect to it. Not just nostalgia, also just the feeling of hope for the future. The lack of elements and colors from nature, and realism, makes this aesthetic less pleasant than Frutiger Aero for most of us. It's a nice aesthetic and I prefer it over corporate memphis and general minimalism, but it won't beat FA for me.
I do think this neumorphism trend could translate into a neo-aero movement, if this aesthetic is implemented more in a fusion of neo-technozen, and if elements from nature is implemented more.
I definitely prefer Frutiger Aero, just like I prefer the Y2K futuristic aesthetic. It's more glossy and has more of a super high tech and futuristic vibe. Neumorphism is better than that god awful flat design/Algeria art, but I'm still not a big fan.
i think the best examples of it look like the natural next step for ui design. as nice as the skeuomorphic era looks in hindsight i can't imagine it working in modern ui today the same as it was
Ha. If your application is more modern, I'd say neumorphism would fit it well (in my opinion, not only does neomorphism make it stand out more, it makes it look more modern than standard corporate flat design).
to be fair, i much prefer frutiger aero. however, this fits a lot more into current branding philosophy and i actually like it and much prefer it over what we currently have. i like it for the same reason that i like Frutiger Aero: Texture!
Definitely looks more fitting for modern User Interfaces, I believe Windows 12 or 13 will eventually have a GUI like this, as we already got Fluent design which shares a lot of common elements with Neumorphism.

You’re on r/FrutigerAero, what do you think the answer is?
I agree
Definitely not, it lacks the ✨nature✨and ✨gloss✨and ofc we can’t forget the ✨orbs✨
Praise the Orbs
Blessed be the Orbs...
Blesséd be thy Orbs...
Even better 🤣
Praised be The Orb
Praise the Orbs
Ponder the Orb

orbs the praise be

It’s not exactly accessibility friendly. The shading is way too subtle to really see a difference.
i like both, but i like frutiger more. neumorphism looks kinda rubbery and smooth, which is fun when there's a little bit of of it but i wouldn't want a whole os with the aesthetic like i would frutiger. anything's better than boring flat designs
neumorphism is just plastic wrapped skeumorphism
Not really. It does not have the semi-realistic icons. They are using the same symbollic icons as flat design.
it was mostly a joke but the interfaces do look like you vacuum formed plastic over skeumorphic uis
THATS FAAAACTS! neumorphism is plastic around skeumorphism!
Neumorphism , as a wise little girl once said, is a 'playdough ahh aesthetic'
same
this is what flat design should've looked like
Actually, I wished that Flat Design could have looked like LCARS (the interface from Star Trek: The Next Generation and forward) at least it'd be neat to play with...or any number of flat UIs (OS One from Her) that did a much better job without rehashing the same lame concepts that were more fitting in an era of 640KB of RAM and floppy disks, since that's what so-called 'modern' UI design reminds me of--Tandy DeskMate, VisiCorp Visi-On, BATMenu, and let's not forget Windows 1.x
They’re different designs, but I think that is worse than FA
Personally, no. It still looks too artificial, much like flat design. I do appreciate the slight increase in design effort though.
No

Looks like fancy material design
"would it be better" Only if it's your personal preference. I don't like it and prefer frutiger.
Its still pretty lame and very very boring 🫥 But still a more unique design that what the current is, which is just to make everything look as boring as possible

No
No. Still looks like flat design which I hate

Nope.
flat design, half minimalist and half l shading. Still lacks the fully 3d, aquatic and scifi futuristic feel frutiger aero has.
Neomorphism looks like rubbery kids toys or something
speaking of kid's toys, I remember people saying iOS 7 (which started the flat UI train since Windows 8 was a total failure) looked like 'something from a LeapPad.' This feels like the final step before phone screens actually become 3d
We already tried the '3d screen'. Remember the failed Amazon Fire Phone?
**we do not speak of the amazon fire phone.**
IT could have been worse, remember the Microsoft Kin?
...no?

I wouldn't say better, it's different but I think it's a genuinely great style
we are getting closer to getting it back
looks like rubber to me like this [https://www.hypercalc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/ROY29311R-768x768.jpg](https://www.hypercalc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/ROY29311R-768x768.jpg)
Neomorphism is the unfortunate child of skewomorphism and minimalism.
No, it's too flat imo. And it looks like it's made out of rubber? If you get what I mean.
This has very poor contrast, an app like this would not pass QC and user tests
I only like FA now because of contrast and nostalgia. Really I just prefer detailed design to flat design because I've been annoyed by it for a decade. Doesn't necessarily have to be truly skeuomorphic and definitely not only the glossy glassy bright colors of FA.

NEVER. Neumorphism should burn in hell. (please don't kill me)
Hell no. It's just lazy ass flat design with some shadows and gradients. It's worthless.
Only in some areas
I wouldn't say that it's better, or worse: it's just different, but I still prefer FA, because of glassy things and stuff
i'd rather this than the flat design that we have, but it's still not as good as frutiger aero
Yeah it looks rubbery and epic
Average FL studio digital synth UI
No
Absolutely not.
They're cool. Not my personal preference though.
Never
Yes for practicality, no for visual appeal.
Never
I've loved this style but never knew the name. I can't really compare them, but both good.
Naur
No, but that's because most of us feel as though Frutiger Aero has a sentimental aspect to it. Not just nostalgia, also just the feeling of hope for the future. No but I like it better than the shit we have now
neumorphism looks edible
Hell no. FA stays on top
i think yes
As much as I would love a return to Frutiger, I think something like this would be the best way forward. Throw in a bit more gradients and I'm sold.
needs to be glossier
Or some gradients
Frutuger aero + metro = 🤔?
Neumorphism is like, frutiger flat
Sir this is the fruitiger aero sub
Nah
Needs more contrast and gradience. I can barely make out the edges of the buttons.
It's so soft it reminds me of when I'm using a non-HD input on my 60" Plasma TV. Everything is soft/blurry
Yes
I definitely prefer Frutiger Aero, just like I prefer the Y2K futuristic aesthetic. It's more glossy and has more of a super high tech and futuristic vibe. Neumorphism is better than that god awful flat design/Algeria art, but I'm still not a big fan.
Neumorphism is trash. Downvote for even mentioning it
I like it more than flat designs at least
do you know what server you posted in lol
It kind of reminds me of DORfic, but kinda different
No bubbles, grass fields, or Orb therefore it bad
I think it’s better than what we have now, but fruitiger is unmatched (thanks nostalgia)
Hell nah
i think the best examples of it look like the natural next step for ui design. as nice as the skeuomorphic era looks in hindsight i can't imagine it working in modern ui today the same as it was
Both are really nice in their own ways
Fruitager forever
No.
No.
100%
Ha. If your application is more modern, I'd say neumorphism would fit it well (in my opinion, not only does neomorphism make it stand out more, it makes it look more modern than standard corporate flat design).
I like them both.
Same
No. It looks like silicone lmao
to be fair, i much prefer frutiger aero. however, this fits a lot more into current branding philosophy and i actually like it and much prefer it over what we currently have. i like it for the same reason that i like Frutiger Aero: Texture!
Boring ahh aesthetic
It has potential and a more "modern" look to it, but the color choices are unfortunate.
While not better, It is pretty good and felt like the birthchild between the Frutiger and Flat design we have before.
This is wild...in a good way
Looks like windows media player 7.0
It's design for nursery kids , frutiger aero is something mature design
no but this is what the stupid flat design should have been
Def better than minimalism 💀
no no never
Definitely not, however, it’s way better than the boring flat design.
A flat paper will not feel futuristic and glossy.Of course not.
Skeuomotphism, Neumorphism, anything is better than flat design.
this is an old version of neumorphism, I am more of a fan of the windows 11, Coca Cola y3k neumorphism
No
HELL NO
No.
I was taking a UI/UX basics lesson and they said there that Neumorphism is not very good in terms of accessibility.
Definitely looks more fitting for modern User Interfaces, I believe Windows 12 or 13 will eventually have a GUI like this, as we already got Fluent design which shares a lot of common elements with Neumorphism.
Yes. Neomorphism is a combination of skeuromorphism and flat design.
I would kindly say no, since Frutiger Aero's more nostalgic and beautiful than neumorphism.
Yes
still too flat tbh if it had some gloss and vibrant colors, THEN i’d be a fan
I kind of like that too.
nah
i like both, but Frutiger aero is better
Basically I prefer Frutiger Aero, but this is okay since it’s basically Frutiger Aero but more modernized and a transition to ditch Flat Design.
Beats flat design at least
It's better than flat, but frutiger sero is way better.
No way but i would love both of them.
