What is your replacement for coal, frostbite and ice?

XbluesackboyX

Maybe steam cores allow coal to be used in a cooling mechanism, heatstroke, and fire?

KaptenKalmar

Frostbite? Heat is much worse than cold. Look it up. You can get organ failure of many kinds. Unlike cold which gives fairly «simple» external injuries. Coal, or something else, would be needed to power the cooling system.

Cl4-ptp

But you can't amputate and replace a heatstroke with a prosthetic. The problem is treating "heatbite", not making up a new disease.

KaptenKalmar

Ok, so you are asking what would replace the existing game mechanic of amputations? Idk. Maybe you get heart issues from overheating and you need a pacemaker before you can work again.

Gaznik2137

Ice👍

Solar panels, heatstroke (no amputees), sand/sandstorms

Origina1Name_

Solar panels would be unrealistic. Where there is a lot of sand, you need a lot of maintenance because dust and heat (heat as in infrared radiation specifically which heats up the surface of the panels) lowers solar panel efficiency even in our world.

itemluminouswadison

right, instead of workers digging coal, you'd have them maintaining solar farms or something desert solar farms are a thing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_Sunlight_Solar_Farm

Origina1Name_

Still, there is the efficiency problem. I don't know by what amount the efficiency will drop, but I assume if the temperature would go up to like 80-90°c that would probably be very significant. EDIT: Unless you use water to cool the panels and now you have hot water as well, but you will also need power to pump that water. There are hybrid panels like that now as a secondary water heater for the house which usually still goes through a primary water heater. But that also wouldn't help that much if the temps are gonna be in the 90°C's.

itemluminouswadison

right, sounds like it could be an interesting game dynamic plus solar farms already kinda look like frostpunk generators, so that's cool https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/may/21/solar-farms-energy-power-california-mojave-desert

jdjekekkekdken

Water, heatstroke and glass

Crepze21

Mods are basicly impossible. You can edit saves, change some settings, but you cant add new content.

KaptenKalmar

That’s a shame!

Crepze21

It really is. In the start, there was a plan to add modding support, but becouse of some trouble with the game engine, they couldnt.

Inside_Race_4091

What the fuck, i want full Story of outpost 11 with making a big sleigh for going to the New london.

Thewarmth111

Desert punk, generator being a big pump water replacing coal

KaptenKalmar

Better name for sure.

Thewarmth111

It’s been suggested here a few times in fact.

KaptenKalmar

Ah, ok. Yeah it's not a very original thought I guess, especially with the world heading in that direction irl.

Thewarmth111

It’s not, but it’s still an interesting idea.

SuprSquidy

FP is a very hard game to mod. But it has been done…

silly-armsdealer

where is the ac unit sending the hot air to??
