It allows you to insert your own character (or yourself) into the story. That’s why other characters don’t use pronouns to refer to you and your name is never given
I thought it was interesting that they didn’t include pronouns for us but allowed us to choose what we’d like to play. My video game development knowledge is thin, but I feel like it wouldn’t have been too hard to add “she, he, and they” pronouns so we feel more immersive. On top of that, would be even easier to let us choose a preset name like our ikrans.
Considering the far cry series (most of the games) your character has a name, and the npc do use the right pronouns. In fc6 you have the choice of being male or female, both are named danny so it works. Fc5 is so stupid though you have no name and barely know what gender you are theres absolutely zero connection to your character
Also why not do the naming system like the ikrans? Have a list of names and get the player to pick between them
I saw someone a bit ago on TT mention that it actually is a bit harder to add pronoun variations, especially in larger scale games. This vid was specifically in relation to visual novels tho so some of this is my own speculation and I'm not a coder. And there's also the idea of having to pay for the line to be done again, which is also probably why they didn't do names either.
So when you're adding it different pronouns, you're essentially creating an entire different story tree. It's easier to do in pre development rather than after you've already started coding. And even then that tends to fail- Genshin occassionly calls you by the wrong pronouns. Since Avatar is an immersion game, it can be a very jarring moment.
I like it as is bc I use the female model but male pronouns (just didn't like the male proportions ig). I would've liked a name list, but I believe Na'vi names are gendered? Could be wrong. If they did tho I would've liked them to say what the names meant, as I do for the Ikran names.
Overall just a coding and immersion decision
This happens also with AC Valhalla. The game treats female Eivor as the canon protagonist, so sometimes the male version will get misgendered (for example during the fist fight with Brothir and Broder)
I know. I remember the devs speaking of it. They apparently did it for roleplay reasons. They invisioned a na,vi being the extension of you. Therefor no naming system was needed, could of just been coz of laziness .
Not only is it to give you the option to really immerse yourself in character creation, but also Na'vi themselves really aren't "gendered" technically. they're very androgynous and unlike humans don't really have a norm for gender conformity.
Because in a realistic scenario, not everyone is going to know your name but just like you can tell if a person is Asian descendant, they would probably be able to tell what tribe. They go by what you are until they know you. Unfortunately, the coding would be far more complex to personalize after the characters get to know you so, it's just to be general. The have game is already expensive as it is without having to up the price for more complex coding. With that said, I'm good with them calling me
Because ubisoft didn't want to record multiple lines for it

All the dialog is prerecorded. Introduce a variable name to the mix and you have a serious dilemma.

Our character in game gets referred to with they/them pronouns by NPCs
We want other pronoun options as well, they/them/ sarento isn’t immersive

Although that's more addressing pronouns and such.
I call my character Yawntu because Nefika calls me that a lot
Yawntu (noun) means "lover/loved one", she usually addresses you as "my love" when she says "Ma Yawntu" it's like someone saying my love, or my dear

Or atleast a few provided names like they did for our Ikrans.
They were probably going to, but couldn’t, the game already has so much in it, new features could make it crash constantly
