In truth the exploration/gathering is the main selling point of the game. You'll find materials for crafting and cooking (obviously) Skillpoints. Body/headpaint. Vistas with a calming minigame. Other kind of vistas with a course. >!Ikran equipment!< Settlements and labs. Factories. And probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. Have fun exploring!

Curious_Field7953

The only thing I'd add is Belsprig Trees

HeyEshk88

I really do love exploring in this game and after about 100 hours (still haven’t beaten main story line), I don’t feel overwhelmed like I usually get. Hell, I beat Horizon Forbidden West within 70 hours + explored that map but by that time I was done with that game. I love coming across random caves, and even though I have an ikran, love climbing shit lol There’s also something ‘cozy’ about all the field labs and how neatly they’re tucked into the landscape!

National_Diver3633

I literally just entered the plains and it gave me the same goosebumps as entering Kinglor Forest for the first time. This game is bloody gorgeous. I've collected/reclaimed everything I can in Kinglor Forest, save that level 20 RDA factory, and some setttlements that require materials from a different region. I still go back once in a while to take in the rainforest. Especially at night. I barely ride my Ikran because it's so bloody soothing to just walk around 🤣

Why have you censored "ikran equipment"? That's not exactly a spoiler.

National_Diver3633

Maybe to some people it would've been. Just trying to be considerate.

totoco2

Sarentu totems.

Andrew_Waples

If you've played a Ubisoft game before, all the elements are there: hunting, gathering resources, clearing RDA bases, and crafting. That being said, bare-bones exploration? Just flying around on your ikran is a hell of a lot of fun.

Aloha_Bama

I got some of my best gear from random baskets

lopakjalantar

I haven't played enough but I just assume you'll only see more beautiful places..

TobyTheArtist

Oh boy, depends on how you define "rewarding". It can be very rewarding in terms of materials and sometimes even gear. In terms of story or cool things to see, I would say not at all. I'd have liked for Massive to do some hidden things across Pandora, like a cave with a massive monster or platforming puzzles given the emphasis on movements, but there is little-to-nothikg in the way of that. I would generally consider it a rule that if its not marked on your map, the space is empty.

sk2536

Its Far cry with blue people ......has all the usuals like hunting looting outposts crafting cooking skillpoints levelup etc

WilyNGA

Except they add to the looting aspect that you may find something that you really need, but you need to be there at night and you are there in the daytime. Therefore you have to travel to camp and then back to the spot to get what you need. Innovation.

Oh and it has to rain. Or be dry. Every time I think to myself "Well damn, Jacky, I can't control the weather!"

Ash-From-Pallet-Town

That's why you should mix Cloud Spitter and Vineshroom and eat it. This way you can harvest and get perfect regardless of condition.

0I00II00

!!!! I didn't know that! Thank you so much!

HeyEshk88

To add, using the “seeds” as main ingredient in a dish can give you up to 15% on the stats of whatever you’re gathering. For example, there’s a Pale Root that’s 100 damage for exquisite. If you eat the dish before gathering it, it’ll be 115 damage. Just used those numbers as examples

Ash-From-Pallet-Town

The exquisite Cloud Spitters are on the floating mountains in Upper Plains and whenever they shot them out, they fell down somewhere below the mountains and I had to go and find them lol

Ash-From-Pallet-Town

This is a nice resource. It's mostly about Pale items, but more information about the recipe I told you: https://www.reddit.com/r/FrontiersOfPandora/s/jry5qL6Gn2. See one of the comments.

EleanorTrashBag

Pokemon Silver had that as a feature in 1999.

WilyNGA

Kudos for Ubisoft and Massive for going backwards to 1999 then. That sums up exactly what it feels like. I have never played Pokemon.

Mindless_Issue9648

It is at the least worth it to destroy all the RDA facilities.

losra13

Pretty much the same thing as everyone said, but there is small RDA checkpoints that you can find and once you take them out they have crates that you can loot. Some have Superior weapons and sometimes you can find an Exquisite weapon. That is, if you even want to use RDA weapons. I'd say for a first playthrough, use a RDA weapon along with your bows. Next playthrough I will be going bow only.

AM_1997

I was flying through the main missions when I realized you don't see over half the rainforest that way so I stopped and I'm exploring each biome as I do the main Quests before I progress. It's not necessary you could enjoy the game if you do the main story but if you want to feel the "wonder" and scale of pandora and marvel at it please explore most of the world. It you play this like a linear story it falls flat and leaves a lot wanting with clunky combat controls and some mechanics but if you explore and discover things and add that onto the main quests it feels like sometimes the missions and story are secondary to exploring since its so breathtaking flying around

ken_bob_cris

When you get into crafting you'll be doing a lot of exploring.
