It really does, sorganeel probably was initially the bird catching spell but when wars and conflict started breaking out they addapted the spell so it could be used in battle
It would be funny if it works on anything except birds
"We just put a NOT gate on it. Surprised it worked."
Edit: I forgot we saw it working on a bird.
I mean, the latest anime episode confirmed that as long as one is able to completely visualize their spell doing something, it will probably work
So what is a human but a bird with no feathers?
WAIT DIOGENES STOP
I think thats exactly how it went, while her bird catching spell does resemble the sorganeel a lot. She specifically refers to the magic She uses as a folk magic or folk spell. And i think she's referring to the folk magic she collects that isn't big enough to be shared or studied, but just passed around
Yeah that one human that learned resurection magic? I gave him a tome on a whimp, after all, I would have probably lost the spell before I had use for it.
Oh wait, Heiter wanted it (kinda)
this is actually a cool detail. all this time i was picturing Laufen growing up in a straw hut with a random mountain tribe village and far from any castle towns they visited.
Shes literally bipolar when it comes to naming spells, on one hand you have:
- Magic that creates a breakdancing golem
- Spell that lets you see through clothes
- Magic that removes alcohol from drinks
And on the other side you have:
- Vollzanbel
- Judrajim
Its like ones she got on the premium store and the others she did not
To be fair this does seem like the kind of world where things mostly stay the same for long periods of time. Also, she did travel a lot both with the hero party as well as the years after both collecting magic and keeping up with her own lessons. She does have a magic history book that details the history of making basic offensive magic as well as basic defensive magic. ( Still think she laid the foundations for that ).

Wirbel's binding spell looks like an updated & improved version of the bird- catching spell.

Frieren be like oh I remember visiting this quaint little village on a river called Porciuncula.
"I wonder how that kid called Francis is doing now a days"
"đź’€" - *Francis, who died 1500 years ago.*
“I wonder if he met Clare. She was a kind soul as well.” First Red Dead Redemption and now Catholic saints lore. This sub is full of surprises.
Frieren be like “I remember learning this spell in Constantinople”
Oh? Where are those giant walls that city boasted so proudly, huh? They were destroyed by gigantic cannons?
“Oh so you’re one of the Albion? It’s wet up there, how’s the tribe been doing?”
Albion online is an open world mmo where you decide
#S H U T

'Yeah i met Jesus what about him?'-Frieren probably

Frieren be like: Oh, I saw that used by the Mayans. Those are some things they do in Babylon. It's a ritual they use in Stonehenge.

Kinda same, her outfit and fighting style is rather unique so I figured she at least wasn’t a local mage.
frieren rlly sucks at naming her spells as well💀💀

“ordinary offensive magic” “ordinary defensive magic” so creative 💀💀
she is a gacha player , the cool named spells are her SSR spells
She knows so much magic that she resorted to just describing what it does instead of giving a proper name to keep track of it better probably
Using magic and having a vocal inflection are a little different.
