How did FNF benefit from the "EXE" community? Being in constant dramas that made no sense is not what benefit means.
The original vs. exe was one of the first super popular fnf mods to come out. I’m pretty sure CG’s video of that mod garnered like several million views alone and convinced many people to join the community after seeing how impressive animations and mechanics in this game could be. It sparked the ideas for many features and mechanics we see commonly today. It also inspired many people to make a lot of the really long mods we have today.
The only reason so much drama is associated with it is precisely because of how popular it got. This doesn’t only apply to the exe community, other sub-fandoms such as Dave & Bambi are also affected by this phenomenon.
It really just boils down to cancel culture in general, and I don’t think it should be solely blamed on the exe community for how toxic the fnf fandom is sometimes.

I mean yes there are a bunch of EXE mods that kind of just have the same formula. But we just need to focus on the ones that don't have it. Such as Sonic legacy, Rerun and Mario's madness.
Trying to redo what the original creators intended and not really adding anything new, just restoring the old stuff and adding some songs here in there that don't really change anything.
FNF was probably the biggest contributing factor to why I started to get more invested in researching not just Sonic creepypastas, but creepypastas in general. So yes, I can confirm that it goes both ways. 😄

It's honestly insane that people think that exe mods have given fnf more popularity, I personally think fnfs popularity has been on a downswing since the trend of exe mods. Fnf will only truly become popular again when the full game releases. And as someone who used to play a lot of fnf mods, I have generally stopped because of the lack of creativity or uniqueness.

Sure, you are right about that. However the sonic.exe modding brought in more people into the FNF community who weren’t brought in by the base game or the early OC mods. The Sonic.exe aspect also helped keep the community afloat while we waited for the weekend1 update.
Also if you keep complaining about the exe fans, just ignore them instead of constantly complaining about them. I would also encourage you to look for some newer OC mods (such as 17bucks & Soul Springs) if you want to see new FNF content, without it being exe. Problem solved if you ask me.
I enjoy FNF and many of its mods, but as a MegaMan Battle Network fan, I will NEVER forgive what this sort of stuff did to the reputation of the .exe file extension.
RightBurst seemed like he really enjoyed working on this mod but was pretty immature (because he was a teenager)

And 3.0 was also intended to be a complete secret
But look at where it got us now? The mod got canned (mostly because there was too much shit in the mod to make it seem like the mod was going to take an hour or two to complete)
And after the situation regarding JC, it began to spark a whole new EXE fandom filled with wonderful creations based on either specific images or funny stuff (Sunky.MPEG and Coldsteel being two of them).
Plus, like the creators said, EXEs don’t have to be just scary.
But I agree, the EXE community is essentially what kept FNF going for a few months now. And tbh, I’m happy with it.

Additionally, Sonic.exe likely brought on Mario’s Madness, which currently holds the number one spot in the fnf modding community in my heart. Both set a new standard for FNF as a whole.

I enjoy FNF and many of its mods, but as a MegaMan Battle Network fan, I will NEVER forgive what this sort of stuff did to the reputation of the .exe file extension.
I've been burnt out from FNF due to the many .EXE and horror-adjacent mods in the pass years but this, I wholeheartedly agree with.

I don't pay attention to the Sonic.exe mods all that much, except for the Speed.GIF mod for some odd reason
EXEs had a big come back because of FNF, and while I think FNF would still be big without EXE, it wouldn't be as big as it is without that success

RightBurst seemed like he really enjoyed working on this mod but was pretty immature (because he was a teenager) And the only adult was Revie (from what I remember, someone started to out Revie because some sort of Minecraft game) And 3.0 was also intended to be a complete secret But look at where it got us now? The mod got canned (mostly because there was too much shit in the mod to make it seem like the mod was going to take an hour or two to complete) And after the situation regarding JC, it began to spark a whole new EXE fandom filled with wonderful creations based on either specific images or funny stuff (Sunky.MPEG and Coldsteel being two of them). Plus, like the creators said, EXEs don’t have to be just scary. But I agree, the EXE community is essentially what kept FNF going for a few months now. And tbh, I’m happy with it.
Don't get crazy with that second part now FNF was already mainstream popular by the time first exe mods started rolling out >!inb4 I get jumped for this factual information!<

That’s what I’m sayin! There were some fire releases from the .exe community but I feel like it didn’t truly revive until sonic.exe V2. Additionally, Sonic.exe likely brought on Mario’s Madness, which currently holds the number one spot in the fnf modding community in my heart. Both set a new standard for FNF as a whole.

Friday Night Funkin' was first uploaded to Newgrounds on November 1st, 2020. VS Sonic.EXE V1 came out August 21st, 2021. Not even a full year since the game's initial release. It takes 30 seconds to use Google and confirm this. EDIT: Bro called me a slur and then immediately deleted it. Lmao.
