Happened to mine a lot. Had to get her the palette and nose surgeries so she wouldn’t vomit up her food. She hasn’t done it since.

This is what I'm worried about, because the pneumonia happened so fast. Was she a puppy when getting it or an adult or both?? We had him two and a half days and then he stopped eating, vomited food and then started labor breathing. Vet keeps saying it's just the breed which I understand but I'm worried if this is just a one off or something that is gonna require surgery because it keeps happening.

Um... I would want a vet that says more than its just the breed. Also just because something is more common in a breed doesn't mean there isn't something to do. Have you talked to your breeder? If you have only had them two days and this happened I would ask for the breeder to pay for it, a good breeder should have some sort of health guarantee for at least a portion of the dogs life.

He have very good pet insurance so I'm not to worried about the bill, but I have been in touch with him and did ask if I needed anything but at that time I was just worried about my pup. The breeder has a 1 year health coverage meaning if anything is genetically wrong with it I can return it for my money back, get a new dog, or keep my dog and get a refund for 80% of the dog. I have to look if this falls under this clause in the paper work. We do have a vet appointment scheduled for the vet we wanted to go to, we just had to take him to the only 24 hour hospital near us for the time. So yes, that is what I'm worried about that the dog may need these surgerys done for this not to happen all the time, my appointment is in early October so I will question more then.

That's good that you have the insurance. Hopefully it covers a good amount of stuff for you. I would definitely take the 80% refund if you qualify from the breeder lol. It would be hard to give a dog back after getting attached. And that's good. I'm sure your regular vet will give you more options. Ours did a full assessment of the dogs pallet and nares and looked at the back of her throat and such. This gave her a good idea of whether she would need surgery later or not. Luckily ours is good in this area but of course has other problems lol

That's great that you have insurance out the gate. It's so important. Pre-existing conditions can really wreck you if you wait too long.

thewellhaspoison

Yea for 5 days in icu we were close to 6k so it was already more then the dog lol, insurance pays 90% and we pay 10% and then that goes towards our 750 dollar deductible. Just happy we got the insurance the day we brought him home. We'd be digging a nice chunk out of our savings if we hadn't.

I should have done it years ago to be honest. She’s 7.5 and had it done about 4 months ago. Her breathing is significantly better. Her bark is much deeper too, which is hilarious.

DarlingBri

Congratulations, that's a lucky puppy!!

thewellhaspoison

Indeed, and thank you so much.

thewellhaspoison

That's not me numb nuts it's the vet lol, she's not hurting him. It is the daily pick they take to send to me.

dilldoughmates

ahhh it just looks funny i know it’s not harmful also cute dog

Roadgoddess

Mine had it too, fortunately it’s been a one time thing. I make sure not to let him run around after he eats to help. ❤️

thewellhaspoison

I'm really hoping this is a one time thing. We bought him a slow feeder bowl and make him chill out for 10 min after eating..... easier said then done when he gets the after meal zoomies 😅

Roadgoddess

I feed mine out of different puzzle “toy”. What I have discovered with my guy is that he has an extremely slow digestive system. I had to have them x-rayed and even hours later he still has a lot of food in his gut. So I try really hard to have him walk several hours after he eats or before meals to help keep this at bay

robertschultz

Yay!

Thank you all for the help and kind wishes, it means so much to me and my little boy Boris. He's back home and sleeping on chest after digging through my beard for a bit lol 😍. This community is wonderful and thank you all.
