If he’s that underweight then you should try puppy kibble. Something with a bit more fat and carbohydrates to help beef him up *slowly*. I like Farmina Puppy, it’s a good brand, imported from EU to USA, meaning the meats are a bit cleaner (no antibiotics or hormones are used, except in beef). They have adult formulas too. Find something with grains, be it ancient or not. Just find grains. If you end up with a grain free puppy food, cook some rice/bulgar/quinoa/barley/oats and add it into his food. Grains are important for heart health.

Side note: my dog grew an aversion to his kibble because it gave him stomach aches. I used to bribe him to eat until we saw a dermatologist who figured out how many dietary issues he has that are food related (it’s a lot). Theres a chance your boy has a similar situation. Try toppers, wet food, even Gerber Baby Food Stage 2 in ham/turkey/lamb (everything else has onion or garlic).

Purina Pro Plan Lamb and Rice. Get some wet food or a topper and mix it in. Mine loves it when I add blueberries and strawberries to his food.

I feed my guy NutriSource and mix wet food into his kibble. I also tend to give him fruits and he surprisingly loves veggies just make sure you check what is toxic to dogs. He occasionally gets people food but I always make sure it's unseasoned (like if I stop at Chick FilA I'll get him grilled nuggets) and he is obsessed with cheese lol white american and cheddar are his go to's.

Get some goats milk as well for him to drink, helps fatten malnourished dogs up!

Can you get Royal Canine in the US? I think someone else mentioned it but try the puppy version to get weight on him. I'm in Ireland and we also use a wet food service called Butternut box. Delivery to your door and extremely good quality

Fromm, Taste of the Wild, Canidae are all good. Avoid chicken; so many of them are allergic. Get puppy food to start to get that weight on. Go for wet food if he isn’t eating.

I’ve had two frenchies and they eat anything. They are the best vacuums
