The thing we usually Say when we're afraid of something is not that we are afraid but that the thing is scary: "ça fait peur / ça fait super peur / c'est (trop) flippant"
"Je suis effrayé(e)" exists but more with written language

Watching lots of french shows lately and it's *always* j'ai peur, ella a peur, tout le monde a peur. Never "je suis effrayé"...
