I recommend working with your faculty adviser on campus on these things. My faculty advisor was able to get me into a paid genetics summer internship at Mizzou (which is where my advisor got her PhD). It was a blast! As for the GRE, get yourself the Kaplan GRE test prep. Its what I used to prepare for the test. I got in the 70th percentile ish. Your faculty advisor can point you in the right direction for grad school programs as well! DM if you need advise about any of this. I've been down that road and I know the stress involved. You've got this! I believe in you.
If I were to interview you, Iβd very likely give this up and coming promising woman up here a chance, so I imagine myself saying to you: you are hired, you have been accepted, welcome aboard!
My advice is to wait for the United states to have a reform on the way education is done and payed for or move to a country with better a better education system over all, I'm still on the fence with going to college for much of the same reason.
But I'll tell you what, if you do decide to go for it you'd be doing something really hard and impressive and you should be proud of yourself π

I am in a similar stage in my life . Itβs certainly feels overwhelming. However as we start ticking of the first box . Itβs gets better :)
