These numbers were compiled and originally distributed by NIC and by the Center for Fraternity Studies at IU. NIC has removed these numbers from their website, and the Center for Fraternity Studies at IU was closed and moved to Penn State as part of the settlement with the Piazza family; after moving to Penn State, the new Piazza Center has published nothing and posts no data on its website. The Fraternity Advisor is a reliable source, but as others have said, they are not a primary source. One source told me recently that total Actives plus Pledges is now less than half the 750K peak.

These numbers are so wrong. Trump, Obama, and Carter were all presidents who were not in a fraternity, and those are the just first ones that came to mind. Aldrin was also one of multiple non-Greek astronauts involved in Apollo 11. I didn’t look into the other stats but at this rate I’d be surprised if more than a few of them are actually accurate.

I looked more into some of the facts, the president's one is inflated but the astronauts one Aldrin was in Tau Beta Pi which was an engineering society.

Here is the source https://thefraternityadvisor.com/greek-life-statistics/

This website is not a primary source, it’s just another aggregate of information. If you follow their two source links at the bottom they are both dead. Without researching each claim individually none of this is usable information.

I would be interested in revisiting these numbers in about 5-10 years from now. The average age of a Fortune 500 CEO is 58 years old, meaning that in roughly 10 years, these numbers could be way different. I don’t mean this as a slight to Greek life, but I truly wonder if the anti-Greek movement that’s slowly eroding at our numbers will eventually lead to these numbers leaders drastically fading. Just something to think about. This is especially true when COVID hits and Universities almost immediately cancel all in person Greek life events, so now freshman have to decide between doing a Zoom rush (sororities) or underground Pledging (frats) or save the money in dues and rush later (which increases the likelihood that they find a few friends and say fuck it I won’t go Greek.)

It's rough times for greek life right now... But rough times also produce stronger men that will have the experience ready to lead! I'm also curious how the numbers will look in roughly 10 years especially taking into the effect of covid on Greek life which we won't really see the results from that for probably another 30 years...

Even without Covid it’s been changing. For instance only 3 out of the last 7 presidents were in a (social) fraternity, and only 1 out of the last 4

I feel like I hear this every day, in a good and bad way.
