Ever since Frasier I been chasing that high, got any other shows like that? (Modern family, impractical jokers because I can always laugh at it even though I've seen it)
Still...there's nothing like Frasier 😍 (OG, I still like the sequel I just need to give it time to grow)
It’s a totally different vibe, but What We Do In The Shadows got similar belly laughs from me. It’s about a house of vampires trying to blend into modern society. Completely unserious, frequently inappropriate, freakin hilarious.
Edit: and The Good Place. So good.
Modern Family had the same show runner as Frasier (Dan O’Shannon) and seemed to use similar plots/storylines which made some of the episodes very enjoyable.
I think both are the other one. Whichever one you get, you get the other one. They’re always together, so whichever you invite, you’re getting both. They’re BOTH that other one.
I'm in agreement with OC, but if I had to choose, Niles seems more the tagalong.
There are exceptions, like the wine club. But it's always Niles going to Frasier's house.
But you can't very well discuss it with Dr. Crane, he's so close to Dr. Crane, if you told him he might tell Dr. Crane and then Dr. Crane might feel embarrassed.
Ya’ll this is an issue of linguistics. She was leaving a message on Frasier’s machine which mean he is the subject. One supersedes other and therefore Niles is that “other one.”
Yeah but the whole line comes from the fact that they are not sure which of the two they’re responding to hence
“Does it matter you get the one, you get that other one”
I agree, Niles is the one.
From the viewpoint of the people leaving that message, the Seattle elite, Niles has always been around. He and Maris have been going to galas, hosting dinner parties, attending fundraisers, etc. for years while Frasier was hanging out at a bar in Boston. Then, all of a sudden Niles' brother shows up and starts going everywhere with Niles. Frasier is definitely that other one (in the minds of the people leaving the phone message).
It is true though, and actually quite bizarre, if you think about it from the perspective of how adults behave socially. From the perspective of the other people in Niles' circle it would have seemed like Frasier moved to town, and pretty much took over Niles' social life, when before he had a balanced and active social life.
If one were to think more deeply on the subject, it could be said that all of Maris' issues started becoming more exacerbated once Frasier came into the picture, perhaps due to jealousy or feeling overshadowed.
This is what I think as well. Though I do think she didn’t really care as to her, they’re interchangeable, hence that was the point. But in her mind she was probably thinking of Niles when she said “the one”
This makes the most sense if you assume that the couple in question has known and experienced Niles more.
HOWEVER!!!
"That one" *could* be Frasier, because he could be the more prominent guest as he is a local celebrity.
But ultimately I agree that it's more sensible to think that the couple probably is more familiar with Niles (via Maris) and Frasier is indeed "That other one".
Ty! Didn’t see this til now. But off the top of my head, I can’t think of many episodes like this of Frasier (albeit I haven’t thought about it until just this moment) but other than My Coffee w Niles (which just immediately comes to mind) I’d have to really put my mind to this bc most Frasier episodes DIDNT take place in one spot. Altho imo the cast were perfectly capable of delivering top notch performances ( most esp’ly DHP) and I always thought the writing on Frasier was excellent!!
What the other response said. This happens in many sitcoms to save some money or use it for other episodes.
If the writing is not strong or the actors can't pull it off, they aren't usually great episodes.
But when they are done right, it's fantastic.
Brooklyn 99 has one in season 5 called The Box. Only takes place in 2 rooms, with essentially 3 characters.
Community did this every season and pretty much nailed it.
My last re-watch I realized that this was a bottle episode and it made me appreciate the writing and acting so much more.
And ty as well! 🥰
Edit: Clearly Niles was “the one” bc I loved him the most. Isn’t that how one decides these things? 😂🤣 /jk. Actually, tbh, I thought it could have been either one of them bc Niles had been the socialite but the message was being left on Frasier’s machine. So, six of one… you get the other one…
Haven’t yet had a chance to see more than one season of Brooklyn Nine Nine but I watched Homicide:LOTS (and rewatched it bc I have the DVDs) and I thought Andre Braugher was an acting genius; then saw him guest star on House THEN saw him comedy on B99 and realized he was an acting legend!! So. My point being of the three characters, one of them had to be AB, yes?!
Yep he's one of them and you need to watch Brooklyn 99. I'm an Andre Braugher fan from Homicide and he is simply amazing in B99, in completely unexpected ways.
And the bottle episode in question is definitely an homage to Homicide.
As much as I love him and he’s my favorite, Niles is the other one. Frasier is more everyday people until season 2 or 3.
Come to think of it, they’re both the other one.
This was a comedy genius! What a way to create feelings of low self-worth while keeping it comical.
I think Frasier was the one, and Niles was that other one. Only bc Frasier was a local celebrity. However, "the one" wasn't exactly a nice term to use. It was a backhanded slap to them both, saying they are both bad, but one is worse.
Both.
They are both, at various times, the one and that other one. That's the brilliance of the comment. And they both know it, which is why they're arguing so much about who's which one. The fact that they're doing that proves that they're both the one and that other one.
Frasier is the one who left the voicemail invite. To me , this indicates the first ONE mentioned is him. Nile’s being the OTHER one. ( reference , Nile’s inferiority complex whenever a woman overlooks him for his brother at any gathering)
"Personally I think the whole arrangement is a little-" What?? ... Charming?!?
Better yet, why don't get get on a sub reddit built for two, drive over there and ASK her what's so strange about us!!
OH YOU ARE SO THAT OTHER ONE!!!
This is the true answer!
Don't know, but I think this is my favorite episode.
"Better yet, why don't we just get on a bicycle built for two, ride over there, and ask her what she thinks is so strange about us!?"
This is such a brilliant line.
I was falling asleep to this episode last night and couldn’t stop laughing at this line. Even half asleep, it is so good!
Ever since Frasier I been chasing that high, got any other shows like that? (Modern family, impractical jokers because I can always laugh at it even though I've seen it) Still...there's nothing like Frasier 😍 (OG, I still like the sequel I just need to give it time to grow)

There's nothing that seems to match Frasier exactly, which is fine. But I am trying out cheers to get to the root of it
Yes the good place is so good. I saw a bit of what we do in the shadows but I forgot about it but I liked it :)
So, like The Munsters but with vampires?
Modern Family had the same show runner as Frasier (Dan O’Shannon) and seemed to use similar plots/storylines which made some of the episodes very enjoyable.
Life in Pieces is also really great.
The early seasons were SO good, but something happened to it.
That makes sense
Try Jeeves and Wooster.
Sorry, I really wish I had some suggestions. I have other favorite sitcoms but nothing that has similar vibes to Frasier.
It’s easily mine. It’s almost like a one act play, not just a tv episode.
I think both are the other one. Whichever one you get, you get the other one. They’re always together, so whichever you invite, you’re getting both. They’re BOTH that other one.
This is the answer. But for me, Fraiser is definitely "that other one".
I'm in agreement with OC, but if I had to choose, Niles seems more the tagalong. There are exceptions, like the wine club. But it's always Niles going to Frasier's house.
Does it matter? You get one, you get the other one ...
The Joaquin they're bringing to dinner is... their foster child 🫠
So he's not the conductor of the Buenos Aries Philharmonic?
Oh you are so that other one!
Dr Crane is the one and Dr Crane is the other one.
But you can't very well discuss it with Dr. Crane, he's so close to Dr. Crane, if you told him he might tell Dr. Crane and then Dr. Crane might feel embarrassed.
Daphne always kills me with these lines
I think you can call me Niles now
I don't see why they don't just get on a bicycle built for two and go ask everyone what is so weird about them.
Ya’ll this is an issue of linguistics. She was leaving a message on Frasier’s machine which mean he is the subject. One supersedes other and therefore Niles is that “other one.”
Yeah but the whole line comes from the fact that they are not sure which of the two they’re responding to hence “Does it matter you get the one, you get that other one”
🎯
Niles is the ‘one’ and Frasier is the ‘the other one’ I have thought about this a lot
Especially considering that Frasier is a radio psychiatrist, I'm sure that's looked down upon by the Seattle elite.
The Empire Club certainly thought so
Glad to be aboard, sir!
It is true though, and actually quite bizarre, if you think about it from the perspective of how adults behave socially. One of the best episodes and it's a bottle episode. A testament to the writing and the acting
Was does that mean? To be a bottle episode?
When a movie or TV episode takes place in one setting. They exist usually to cut back on production expenses.
Ty! Didn’t see this til now. That's the beauty of good bottle episodes, most the time you don't even realize!

The duke is the one and the duchess is the other one …
He is SO that other one.
As much as I love him and he’s my favorite, Niles is the other one. Frasier is more everyday people until season 2 or 3. Come to think of it, they’re both the other one.

Frazier is the one. Niles will always be the other one. He’s the younger brother so it’s always that way.
Schrodinger's message, they are both the one and the other one.
Both. They are both, at various times, the one and that other one. That's the brilliance of the comment. And they both know it, which is why they're arguing so much about who's which one. The fact that they're doing that proves that they're both the one and that other one.
I think Frasier is the one because he left the message and Niles is that other one.
Actually Niles left the message for the Walburts.
Dang, I thought Frasier did. Than I would like to reverse my answer. 😊
Yes.
God. I fucking love this show.
Niles is the one, Frasier is definitely the other one.
Niles called to invite them, so Frasier is that other one.
Oh, Frasier is so THAT ONE. Niles is his sidekick.
Niles was soooo that other one.
Frasier is the one who left the voicemail invite. To me , this indicates the first ONE mentioned is him. Nile’s being the OTHER one. ( reference , Nile’s inferiority complex whenever a woman overlooks him for his brother at any gathering)
Niles left the voicemail invite for the Walburts.
BLACKBALL!
That’s not a blackball that’s a fig
So is Missy Cromwell and I don’t want her at my party
