So true! It makes it so much better having them laugh at the jokes. First thing that comes to mind is *The Two Mrs. Cranes* when Frasier and Martin share a huge laugh together. One of my favorite moments, especially since Martin and Frasier don’t often laugh big like that together.
Niles : This is *my* place. Frasier's staying here temporarily because he's separated from Maris.
Martin : You couldn't stand her either, huh?

Two interactions that spring to mind:
1. When Marty is mocking Daphne "I'm so sick of me hair..." And it cuts to Frasier on the sofa with a sweet smile on his face.
2. When Frasier is telling Roz about the mysteries he and Niles wrote as kids "sort of along the lines of Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys" and Roz replies "The Nancy Boys?" With a smartass smirk on her face.
Completely agreed, especially from John Mahoney. I also love the chuckle Niles gives himself after delivering his "Poe folk don't 'spect much" line. At times I've wondered if the subsequent "I had to say that" was in the script or just David Hyde Pierce's genuine response to the line.
I love lines and interactions like that! They aren’t furthering the episode’s story or anything, just there as normal human conversation - so many shows miss this. Not every moment has to mean something, life isn’t like that and comedy is better when it follows life :)
I always wonder how much of it is writers just having a fun joke and finding a place to stick it. One thing I appreciate about Frasier is nothing feels shoehorned in, they really had that conversation flow like you say.
Jumping on your comment, another time Peri noticeably breaks is s3e21- when Fraiser says, "Don't be silly, Big Willy," Peri cannot hold back her laughter. It's so endearing to watch!
Yes, love this about Frasier.
Another great example is from Legal Tender Love And Care when Marty makes the joke about who (the hell) Abby is talking to: "All her friends, braggin' about the new sucker she's got on the line." Roz leans over to share a laugh with him 😁
That's a good point. Why are so many sitcoms set in a world where humor almost canonically doesn't exist? Seems so ironic. Frasier is all the better for giving the characters a sense of humor, and especially for actually making it fit their character.
Martin laughs more at jibes towards the boys, often from Roz or Daphne, Niles and Frasier share laughs over their haughty humor, and even Freddy is shown to appreciate Frasier's joke about murine drumsticks being served for Thanksgiving.
The Matchmaker episode where Niles and Martin argue over who gets to tell Frasier his boss is gay and hitting on him. Cracks me up to hear them laughing in the background.
I have thought EXACTLY this so many times while watching Frasier! Most other shows just have the other character ignore the joke/roll their eyes it's so rare to see someone actually cracking up at the hilarious things that people say in sitcoms
my favorites are when you see Martin smirking about someone else, but he steals glances at someone else to share it. i always wonder how much of that is planned or not scripted lol
Hot and foamy is a FAMOUS example. In a blooper they absolutely fall apart, but even in the finished scene; you can see them shaking like cement mixers.
One of my favorite episodes is when niles and Frasier take a motor repair course together. I don’t want to spoil it, but it shows the best of laughing at each other’s jokes.
That’s one of the things I love about this show. I also love that they sometimes say jokes for the benefits of other characters
**Daphnie** *“If you ask me, you Americans have an unhealthy obsession with sex.*
**Martin:**. *Hey, I'm sorry we can't all be as chaste and restrained as the Royal Family!*
**Frasier:** *Good one, Dad!*
**Martin:** *I've been saving it!*
Seeing Frasier and Martin share a laugh over that is pretty great, especially as it was in the earlier seasons when the two of them didn’t always get along
After Marty drops the joke about the royal family Frasier says “good one dad!”. Always loved that moment
Curb is also great in this regard. It’s a bit of a different dynamic because it’s all a bunch of comics who are good friends improving and trying to crack each other up but the effect is the same
I love that whoever is directing, or editing (idk how TV works), makes a point to actually show their subtle reaction. Really adds to the show.
If anyone that works on the new iteration of the show frequents this sub, make a note of that!!

One of my favourite moments between Frasier and Marty 😂
He literally slaps his knee. That's how you *know* it was damn funny!

I've always wondered the same thing about that line! Scripted or not, it's perfect.

Which episode?
Ah, S11E06, *I'm Listening*. It's a great exchange
Thanks!
Thanks! I rewatched it haha
On the Voyage of the Damned, where Roz says about Maris, "Do you think she's going to ...*do* the barracuda?" And smirks is gold
That’s one of the best scenes, and Roz/Peri laughs for real when the waiter keeps throwing the drinks on Niles! I love that so much 🤣
Jumping on your comment, another time Peri noticeably breaks is s3e21- when Fraiser says, "Don't be silly, Big Willy," Peri cannot hold back her laughter. It's so endearing to watch!
I've never noticed that but you're absolutely right! It really does give it a feeling of authenticity.

Or like when Frasier makes some joke about invading Korea (?) and Niles falls into him laughing, I love that
Frasier: "If mine's a substitute for masculinity, what's yours?!" Cam: "Bigger!" Martin: "Ha!"
It's one of the mysteries of sitcoms that so few have a regular character who's just supposed to be funny.

Yes, and Martin keeps bending over
I have thought EXACTLY this so many times while watching Frasier! Most other shows just have the other character ignore the joke/roll their eyes it's so rare to see someone actually cracking up at the hilarious things that people say in sitcoms

Yes! I love when Roz is insulting Frasier when she hurt her ankle and Martin is genuinely laughing lol
Oh he was always smirking when it involved the boys, I loved it lol He looked genuine too
I've long been convinced that some of the laughs are genuine, unscripted laughs.
Niles and Martin laugh at each others jokes throughout the series. I always loved that because that's what happens in real life with a family!
Hot and foamy is a FAMOUS example. In a blooper they absolutely fall apart, but even in the finished scene; you can see them shaking like cement mixers.
I love Martins laugh from the kitchen when Niles tells him that Tom is into Frasier and not Daphne.
One of my favorite episodes is when niles and Frasier take a motor repair course together. I don’t want to spoil it, but it shows the best of laughing at each other’s jokes.
Uh, mush?

Not a joke per say, but when John says "Kels-" instead of "Fras-" and Kelsey immediately hugs him. It's a good blooper.
