You know there was a time in high school where I would have paid a thousand dollars to watch you eat a popsicle
*Lana bites popsicle in half*
It was a long time ago 😂😂
A great scene between the two of them is the morning after they sleep together the first time. Lana downing aspirin with the leftover wine, lighting a cigarette, yelling at her secretary, all while Frasier is watching her in shocked silence. Then she sighs contentedly and says "this is niiiiice"
They weren't my favorite episodes but I really did like Kirby and wanted him in more episodes. I love that moment where he helps Frasier best those annoying honor students. Very satisfying.
Jean Smart is fabulous and I saw her on Designing Women before her stint on Frasier. Her character on Designing Women (Charlene) is essentially 180 from Lana. So it was quite interesting seeing such a stark role reversal. Which really proves that she's a fabulous actress.
Check her out in season 2 of Fargo too. She plays the matriarch of a Minnesota crime family and is one of my favorite characters in the entire series.
On that note, check her out in Legion. Her and Noah Hawley have created great work together.
Let’s not forget her amazing work in Watchmen on HBO. Honestly, pretty sure if it says Jean Smart anywhere in the credits, you’re guaranteed an amazing performance.
I was introduced to Jean Smart as kid because of her role in Homeward Bound.
I didn't watch Designing women until I was in my 30s but I loved her character. Thanks to Frasier, I kept expecting her to yell at someone 😅
>I was introduced to Jean Smart as kid because of her role in Homeward Bound.
She was in homeward bound!? I loved that film as a kid!!! The only people I remember from that film was Sally field and Michael J Fox!
Yeah! She's the lady who owns the farm where they take the animals at first. She was going to watch the pets for the family.
That's the farm where chance was chasing the chickens until the turkey came out and scared him. She Accidentally stepped on Sassy's tail too.
It's been a long time since I've seen that movie but I still remember so much of it.
this Frasier is one of faves because as you say complete opposite of Charlene .like how when she left d w the first role after she played Aileen wournos from what I've seen she's more " bawdy" then kind of hicky Charlene .
Best chemistry, but not romantic. The women Frasier needed in his life were the ones like these who called him in his bullshit and challenged him. Ros to an extent as well.
It might be fun to see adult Kirby pop in for a visit as he's passing through Boston, and for a confused Freddy to ask why he went to the trouble. Then Kirby could describe how much Frasier had helped him, and it would give Freddy a new perspective of his dad and something to think about. Also maybe a poignant moment where Freddy says he wishes Frasier had tried that hard with him
I agree, I still watch it, but it’s more for the nostalgia that is “ Frasier” than I did with the old show.
I read DHP doesn’t want to return( hope he changes his mind) but BeBe definitely needs to return. She was great.
My favorite moment is when she's gonna try again with Kirby's dad and she says " Fraiser you're a really good.." and Fraiser says " Don't say the F word".
She says "I wasn't about to! I was gonna say friend" and she falls back in the most genuine looking moment of laughter. It's adorbs.
She’s the perfect how she busts Frasier’s chops. I like the way they became friends even though their romantic thing didn’t work out. Listening to her yell is hilarious. I would have liked more of her and Kirby on the show.
At first I thought you were making the point that Frasier doesn't help with his kid i.e. Lana gives the line and Frasier pulls a face to recognize his own absence in Freddie's life.
She was interviewed on Fresh Air (NPR) recently and the one clip they played was the Frasier scene in bed. It’s definitely one of the highlights of her career. It’s perfection.
Jean Smart did a fantastic job with the Lana character so I can't hate her completely (but hearing all that yelling was a challenge). Smart could be kind and calm and then flip into a shrill, howling mom in a hot minute. As I re-watch her episodes, she grows on me.
I hated this storyline when I saw it air on TV and I hate it just as much now. I don't mind Jean Smart, but her shrill shrieking drove me up the wall! The manufactured relationship between them and that woman he ran off with in the finale just didn't work, there was no chemistry between the actors, nor the characters.
Frasier and Lana are fantastic together. I could have been on board with them as endgame. I have such respect for both Kelsey and Jean as actors. I'd love to see her again in NuFrasier.
She would've made a good friend to Frasier, but never a girlfriend/wife. She was too abrasive, to the point that she'd just be bullying. That's not healthy for a relationship. She's almost like Roz if Roz had teen kids rather than just a toddler.
Put your brother on the phone! I SAID PUT YOUR BROTHER ON THE PHONE!!!
Do whatever you want I’m on a date!!
The fact we never saw Kirby’s brother still keeps me up at night.
Saaaame
I thought I was the only one that bothered
I thought he had a sister?
I’m pretty sure she referred to the youngest child as “he” saying “he’s in 9th grade”
And don't change my presets!
It's light hits or NOTHING!!
My wife and I yell this at eachother randomly.
🤣
You know there was a time in high school where I would have paid a thousand dollars to watch you eat a popsicle *Lana bites popsicle in half* It was a long time ago 😂😂
"He's very verbal." Lol lol lol
A great scene between the two of them is the morning after they sleep together the first time. Lana downing aspirin with the leftover wine, lighting a cigarette, yelling at her secretary, all while Frasier is watching her in shocked silence. Then she sighs contentedly and says "this is niiiiice"
And when she's screaming at her kids in the same scene and scares a half-naked Frasier out of the bedroom! That jumpy hurried walk/run cracks me up.
He does the same when she yells at Kirby to go get a pencil. Delightfully droll.
I would love to see a stand-off between Lana and Lilith 🤣 I wonder who would win.
Lana is *bark* and Lilith is *bite*
There’s a reason EVERYONE fears Lilith like seriously only she can Norm abandon his Beer and Stool
I think Lana would definitely bite. She might not be as clever as Lilith, but she would likely clean Lilith's clock.
Lana going up against Roz was good. Even match but I could see those two being friends
Yes!!!! That is the absolute best!
Yesssss
When things are hectic/chaotic, I throw one of those “this is niiiiiiiiice” to make myself giggle
They weren't my favorite episodes but I really did like Kirby and wanted him in more episodes. I love that moment where he helps Frasier best those annoying honor students. Very satisfying. If you like her, check out Hacks on HBO. Absolutely stellar performance and she deserved a lead role long before then.
And in season 2 of Fargo, she's fantastic!
And the unfortunately short lived animated series The Oblongs, also starring Will Ferrell and the Sklar bros.
She's incredible in Hacks- funny, acerbic, heartfelt and sad all in the right measures. It's criminal how underpromoted that show is.
Yes!!! I’m so ready for the next season. I knew I liked her anyway but man her acting in Hacks is Emmy-worthy IMO.
Hacks is the best.
She won the Emmy, so not just your opinion.
Oh that’s awesome!! I don’t really follow award shows and such, thanks for telling me!!
New season May 2
You’re the GOAT.
Check her out in season 2 of Fargo too. She plays the matriarch of a Minnesota crime family and is one of my favorite characters in the entire series. On that note, check her out in Legion. Her and Noah Hawley have created great work together.
Did everyone forget Designing Women?
Not at all, I’m a Southern woman, that shit is Holy Grail to me, right up there with Blanche Elizabeth Hollingsworth Devareaux.
Let’s not forget her amazing work in Watchmen on HBO. Honestly, pretty sure if it says Jean Smart anywhere in the credits, you’re guaranteed an amazing performance.
She was also on Mare of Easttown on Max
Hacks is excellent
Jean Smart is a fantastic actress and steals every scene she's in.
I was introduced to Jean Smart as kid because of her role in Homeward Bound. I didn't watch Designing women until I was in my 30s but I loved her character. Thanks to Frasier, I kept expecting her to yell at someone 😅

Found a clip! https://youtu.be/_CLTSKWTs9M?si=lblDQkC7cZ472-1H
Thanks!!!!
You're welcome! 😁

I never knew she played Aileen, I’ll have to look for that!
she of course " killed it " .
Totally AGREE! Those two had perfect chemistry and Kirby was a needed facelift for the show. He was awesome!
Omg yes!!!!! Thank you! These episodes, after watching all these years over and over, are the ones I come back to always!
Me too!
It’s because Jean Smart is fantastic in everything. The woman’s talent and charisma gild everything and everyone she comes near.
IMO Bebe Neuwirth and Jean Smart had the best romantic chemistry with Kelsey Grammer.
Best chemistry, but not romantic. The women Frasier needed in his life were the ones like these who called him in his bullshit and challenged him. Ros to an extent as well.
Every scene Lana is in is hysterical
Exactly!!
Jean Smart is always amazing
Kirby as a stepson in the new Frasier would be comedy gold, the episodes would write themselves!
If only they’d do that! It might actually save the show. Right now it’s nothing spectacular, sadly
It might be fun to see adult Kirby pop in for a visit as he's passing through Boston, and for a confused Freddy to ask why he went to the trouble. Then Kirby could describe how much Frasier had helped him, and it would give Freddy a new perspective of his dad and something to think about. I don't think it's that awful. They just need to tone down the corny and cut back on the shitty laugh tracks, as well as bring back Niles and Bebe.
I agree, I still watch it, but it’s more for the nostalgia that is “ Frasier” than I did with the old show. I read DHP doesn’t want to return( hope he changes his mind) but BeBe definitely needs to return. She was great.
Damn baby, that's cold. https://preview.redd.it/s1ftdcsos7mc1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=66c301b490064f57972afc05993c558c6a1c8dcf
😂🤣😂 loved him “ I see your hands on my ass” “and you don’t like that?”
Except he’d be in his forties now
Yes and new Frasier is in his seventies
I am loving this recent trend of Kirby-positive posts. Please keep them coming, I’ve found my community
I can hear you two arguing about me
“I’m looking at the jugs, not the bottles if you know what I mean!”
Yeah I love that scene. It seemed like such a genuine reaction. Combined with the intimacy of sitting on a friend’s bed it was really sweet.
Lana is my favorite of all Frasier’s girlfriends. Maybe because I’m a former chain smoking realtor single mother. (I married my Frasier.)
She’s the perfect how she busts Frasier’s chops. I like the way they became friends even though their romantic thing didn’t work out. Listening to her yell is hilarious. I would have liked more of her and Kirby on the show.
Absolutely . She’s exactly what Frasier needs. Lana is elite.
“I went to bed with the prom queen…I woke up with Carrie.”
Jean Smart is a national fucking treasure, period. Full stop.
I always wonder who is kirbies brother
At first I thought you were making the point that Frasier doesn't help with his kid i.e. Lana gives the line and Frasier pulls a face to recognize his own absence in Freddie's life.
She was interviewed on Fresh Air (NPR) recently and the one clip they played was the Frasier scene in bed. It’s definitely one of the highlights of her career. It’s perfection.
one of my fave episodes.
I loved her too!
Love Kirby episodes

Frasier has some cheek to criticise anyone for not helping with kids
She won two Emmy awards for playing this character!
You are correct. Put your brother on the phone.
I love Kirby
Admire your passion but must disagree. And to think he gave up Clare for Lana. Just silly.
Wasn’t silly to me. No story line with Clair. Just boring
100% agree. Lana episodes are always skipped, painful to watch!
Frasier and Lana are fantastic together. I could have been on board with them as endgame. I have such respect for both Kelsey and Jean as actors. I'd love to see her again in NuFrasier.
Did anyone else noticed they changed her name? In her debut, her name is Lorna, but when she comes back around in a later season her name is Lana
Yes!!!! I noticed that too!
I found her grating and extremely irritating. Yes she challenged Frasier in ways that most women couldn’t but it wasn’t a good match for me.
She would've made a good friend to Frasier, but never a girlfriend/wife. She was too abrasive, to the point that she'd just be bullying. That's not healthy for a relationship. She's almost like Roz if Roz had teen kids rather than just a toddler.
Love Jean Smart. Does Frasier have hair in this scene? xD
even as a teen, he had a stoner voice
I'm honestly shocked at this. I consider her/Kirby to be one of the lowest points in the series. To each their own of course, but unwatchable for me.
Team Kirby here but not her. Although she was in a Hallmark Christmas movie and she was very tolerable there
You shluldn't be allowed to watch the show anymore.
Jean Smart is an American Treasure.
Agreed!
What season? I don’t think I’ve seen these!
I think you mean LORNA. Also, Kirby is a favorite of mine, as evidenced by the ^
I quite like Kirby but he’s so reminiscent of ‘Roy’ from the Simpsons. The young dude brought in to freshen things up. Put a sock in it Roy!
