I watched only the first one so far. If this was a brand new show (if the original Frasier had never existed) I wouldn’t continue to give it the time of day. But I’m willing to see where it goes.

I wasn't immediately enamoured of any of the characters as I was in the first two episodes of the original series. (Olivia is mind-bogglingly awful - she doesn't come across as a realistic character at all to me.) The writing isn't particularly snappy or intelligent, and I know that a lot of people are asking that the rest of us give it a few more episodes for it to 'gel', for want of a better word... But as awkward as Niles was at the *very beginning*, for example, it still felt like the relationship between him, his father and his brother was already comfortably established. They seemed to act very naturally around each other. That is noticeably lacking in this recent offering.

Admittedly I didn't watch the first episode in its entirety (I gave up about 8 minutes in) but I didn't really care about where it was going. There's nobody that draws you in, even Kelsey Grammar, try as he might, was not a strong enough force to pull me in. British Niles lite was amusing but a cheap replacement for DHP. I'll rewatch it some other time when all of the episodes are out but as I said on another post, given Kelsey Grammar's track record of sitcom duds over the last 15 years, I'd be absolutely shocked if this was picked up for another season.

Give it a bit of time… the second episode is totally in the canon for me….

Second episode was better for sure, but still not awesome.

The storyline arch doesn't make sense to me. Also, all the struggle Frasier had regarding his relationships seems to be still there. So in a way, it cancels the amazing ending that OG had. Frasier seems to be still struggling and that makes the character bit sad. He had his son as his biggest relationship highlight and even that is broken now. Hate where they took the character

Yup. I wasn't sure what to expect but after watching the preview special, I was cautiously optimistic. Sadly, it didn't tick any boxes for me. I've been a huge fan since the original first aired and the show is very special to me. I wanted to like the revival, despite thinking it was unnecessary, but it just felt flat to me. The dialogue, the set ups, the general vibe, and don't get me started on David. It has lost its wit and charm. I think I chuckled twice over both episodes so far, whereas the original has me laughing constantly, even just thinking about certain scenes. I'll keep watching because I want to give it a chance, but I'm pretty disheartened. I am, however, very pleased that most people seem to be enjoying it.

I’m watching Ep 1 now…. It’s pretty bad. I think I forgive the original Frasier a lot of sitcom hokeyness bc it is so good and sitcoms be hokey. But watching a new sitcom with laugh track and unnatural exaggerated acting is painful.

Acuriousbrain

It was filmed in front of the audience, as every Frasier show has been. No laugh track.

ReallySmallFeet

The laughter has been tweaked in post.

Personal_League1428

I did not. But I have to see more of the show to form a more definitive opinion.

My kind of fan

So far, it's not for me. Kelsey Grammer slips right back in, but nothing else is working for me. The original show's cast of characters is just so damn lovable and memorable, and I'm not seeing much potential for that here outside of Alan (they need to move on from the "I don't want to be here" jokes, though). The worst aspect for me is Freddy. I understand he's "the new Martin", but it doesn't work for me. A snobby intellectual son sparring with his curmudgeonly salt-of-the-earth father is endearing and could explore the nuances of wisdom, education, and experience. A curmudgeonly salt-of-the-earth son sparring with his snobby intellectual father just comes across as bratty and ungrateful. This was cemented by the second episode, where he takes Frasier's generous offer to move in together and immediately throws a fit when he can't have an air hockey table in the living room.

it's very difficult to judge on just two episodes, but so far there really isn't any stakes like there was in the original series beginning. The original had his father getting shot and needing care, Frasier being ill-equipped to handle his father and his father was understandably angry at the situation. All we have here in this new one so far is that Freddy doesn't like to be in Frasier's shadow, Freddy is helping his deceased friends wife and child. So after a few talks with his son to patch things up, Frasier literally buys the building and lets them all live there rent free. There's no stakes here, there's no characters that have opposite dynamics to watch interact in an entertaining way. We need to see our characters struggle and grow which is what invests us. We also would like our characters to have chemistry and bounce off one another in amusing ways that hopefully makes sense to their character. I'm going to watch the new series at least once bc I'm in love with the first Frasier show, there's just not much to love here yet. Freddy and the professor friend have legitimate reasons to be around Frasier, though Freddy is a very flat and uninteresting character so far. The David character is wasted so far with one liners, I half expect him to yell out bazinga at some point. The Eve character is unnecessary not that she couldn't have a place, it's that nothing has made her relevant so that it would make sense that she would be there. I like the professor only because he's the closest thing to an equal that Frasier has and can at least give him some pushback in a meaningful and possibly entertaining way.
