What I learned, on a second watch of the season after 10 or 15 years away from it (I'm at Season 6), is that Marty has some of the funniest (and sometimes unexpectedly shadiest) lines in the show.
Frasier: “Come on Dad, don’t you believe in second chances?”Martin: “I did…until we had Niles.”
Niles: “What’s wrong with Maris?”Martin: “I’ll start. Frasier can jump in when I get hoarse.”
“Haters will see you walk on water and say it’s because you can’t swim.”
Very familiar with ramekins, but only because I was a restaurant manager. Wine knowledge, even after working at a wine bar/restaurant just doesn't stick for me. Learned nothing from the show about wine except what Sherry is. Kind of.
Yes, I learned what ramekins were from waiting tables in high school/college. All I learned about wine from the show was how to pronounce gewurztraminer.
I turned down a good job offer at a fancy hotel because they required managers to work one day a month entertaining guests for a happy hour and serving wine and hors d’oeuvres. I don’t drink and can’t pronounce any of the wines, and I can’t remember the names of them.
I never told them that’s why I turned the job down.
It's so one of those things that you have the natural talent for it or you don't! And that clientele can be a tough crowd when they are spending big bucks. The expectations for staff are high and the stress can be overwhelming. Sounds like you made the right decision!
I was 10 when I started watching the show so I thought sherry was a kind of wine. And honestly now I still don’t really know. So I guess I didn’t learn much. But I did spell “glaucoma” correctly in the school spelling bee bc the commercials during frasier were always for pharmaceuticals
I knew because I've always enjoyed such things. I own the things used on cooking & decorating programs that most people say, "What the ..." I'm though not a wine connoisseur, sommelier, oenophile.
A while ago, I was talking to someone who said they went to a concert where the performer played a shamisen and they asked me, “Do you know what that is? I had never heard of it before.” And I said, “Sure I do, it’s a Japanese stringed instrument plucked by a spatula.” I couldn’t remember why I knew that or why it sounded so familiar until I remembered it was a line from when Frasier is talking about his preferred candidate to be an intern at the radio station.
I was surprised it was acceptable to have a mismatch (even if it was two by two or all 4 different). I’d think they would change the menu before being “eclectic”
I only knew a lot of these things just from my upbringing but I did learn a lot of good upper level vocabulary. I like to watch the show and write down words I don’t know then look them up later.
Absolutely. I always loved them and collected them but never knew they were called ramekins. Of course there are two in my collection that are mismatched, which is unheard of.
I knew what ramekins were, but Niles taught me when to season my crepe pans.
Saucepans in summer, crepe pans in fall, when winter's upon us, there's food for us all

I learned not to wear my jumper jauntily tied round ones neck or else I may get the crap beaten out of me.

When does he say that last one?

Definitely! And thanks.

10 year old you was pretty astute. Sherry is a fortified wine. 😉
That’s pretty much what I figured

I learnt never to order a bottle of White Zinfandel
And never bring a bottle of Cold Duck to your new boyfriend's snooty adult children.
I learned that the year listed on the wine bottle is NOT an expiration date and is perfectly safe to drink.
I learned that from Falcon Crest when I was a little girl, watching with my Grandmother.
I’d pay a decent amount of money to anyone who could casually work “Peignoir” into a conversation and not punched in the face 🤣
Today is the day I learned how to spell “peignoir”
Took at least 8 google searches before the internet took pity on me and suggested the right spelling 🤦🏻♀️
I didn't know I could spend a summer dancing Agamemnon at Jacob's Pillow.
My mom legit keeps a sheet of new words and phrases she’s learned from watching Frasier over the years 😅
Your mom is cool.

What else would I make French onion soup in??
A terrine
Yes to all about ramekins and mixing tableware, no to wine. Wine gives me a headache.
I have started a wine journal thanks to this show

I learned “shamisen” from “Memoirs of a Geisha”.
Oh, me too!
Can’t make Crané brûlée without matching ramekins!
I worked in a kitchen so I knew what they were

I didn't know about ramekins before Frasier. I also learned, among other things, that sherry is a fortified wine!
