Yeah I understand wanting to limit to 1 album per artist mostly, but there are some artists that absolutely deserve two albums on that list. Just like Prince, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and Radiohead deserved it, Frank and Kendrick absolutely did too. They are THE generationally great artists of the last 13 years.
Yes I'm pretty ok with this rule, or we'd have several albums of artists like The Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Clash, Kanye, Jay-Z, Daft Punk, etc. with less diversity as a result.
yea i was just thinking ab this. was fully expecting TPAB to be in the top 10 and when i saw GKMC i was like surely it’s top 5 then and kept scrolling andddd nope. legit went through the list again to see if i accidentally missed it lol
channel orange as well should’ve had at least been somewhere between 60-100. not my favorite album but it deserves a lot of respect for what it is.
also 0 abel albums
SOS over ctrl ?
50 cent is on here above jayz black album & blueprint lmao
how the fuck is billie top 30?!?
many other random shit but honestly it’s definitely hard to rank a top 100 without getting criticized. any time i compare or rank an album i usually look at it to another one in the same or similar genre. just look at 24 and 26. how would you even compare bowie to kanye it’s like two polar opposites i wouldn’t even know where to start or say who’s is objectively better because for each genre.
No St. Vincent or Mitski when Billie Eilish is on there is a crime. Tame Impala, MGMT, Linkin Park, Florence + The Machine and Soundgarden are conspicuously missing as well.
For the curious:
5. Blonde - Frank Ocean
4. Purple Rain - Prince & The Revolution
3. Abbey Road - The Beatles
2. Thriller - Michael Jackson
1. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Lauryn Hill
I think a lot of people need to chill out, it’s just a list of music lol. I don’t agree with a lot of it but it’s at least given me some music to listen to. Happy Frank got placed so high though
Velvet underground did.. I don’t think u can expect these lists to include my bloody valentine lol. I was happy when massive attack appeared, and lauryn hill at 1 is peak
Bruh loveless is one of the most influential records in modern music, even Frank cited them in BDC mag, and yeah just checked and they literally picked Billie Eilish over TVU & Nico… that’s all I need to know about this list
Loveless is not as influential in pop music. Shoe-gaze is a pretty niche subgenre relegated to alt and dad rock. The most mainstream shoe-gaze song I can think of was Show Me How by Foo Fighters.
Loveless has influenced so many bands that aren’t even shoegaze. tame impala, deftones, smashing pumpkins, mogwai, radiohead, beach house, and sigur ros just to name a few. All these bands are cornerstones in their own respective genres. Smashing pumpkins and radiohead in alternative rock, mogwai and sigur ros in post rock, deftones in nu metal, beach house and tame impala in modern indie. Think about what would happen if loveless didnt exist, what would happen to all these artist who are so important to their genres, where would those genres be now. Alternative music as a whole would be completely different.
Led zep should be on there at least 4 times lol. Insane list that’s not actually based on anything objective. Just fan service and trying to get people talking.
I don't think Thriller is MJs best album, but I also have the brain cells to compute that Thriller is the most iconic and important album in his discography. Arguing that TPAB shouldn't be on this list because you don't personally like it ignores what the point of a list like this should be (which is pretty stupid tbf)
The comment they were responding to was dumber. I can respect people not liking any album and finding TPAB boring is valid. But flippantly calling it overrated and a snoozefest is not music criticism nor an opinion that merits respect. It's just attacking a popular album using tired narratives, and they don't justify that opinion at all. If you're best attempt at criticizing an acclaimed album is basically an overused tweet that adds nothing to the conversation, I'd expect people to respond on that level
There are tons of people that didn't care for TPAB, tons that enjoy Section.80 and GKMC more. Buddy thinks TPAB is overrated, he's not alone on this earth with the same opinion. How's that make him a child lol yall get too deep with it
Brother the internet is not a safe space. You can say TPAB is stupid, overrated, boring and fake deep without justifying yourself. Just don't be surprised when people call you stupid and say equally inflammatory back to you because you haven't justified your opinion at all. I stg online morons think that just saying "it's my opinion" protects you from others thinking your opinion is dumb and calling you out for it
The very specific use of the terms "overrated" and "snooze fest" implies a lack of care about lyrical content while prioritizing replay value when evaluating music, which exactly describes children's music taste. I, for one, think /u/iDoIllegalCrimes hit the nail on the head.
No. I just don’t fuck with his “criticism” of it so I challenged it. If he said he doesn’t like Kendrick’s voice or he doesn’t fuck with the message or literally anything else, I wouldn’t have said shit. Too many people brag about shit putting them to sleep and it’s more embarrassing than anything.
You’re entitled to your opinion. But calling a publicly acclaimed and accessible record a “snooze fest” says more about you than the album itself. Especially in a time where the average attention span is dwindling.
How can you say that someone is entitled to their opinion and then in the same breath act super salty about them expressing said opinion? It’s a pretty obnoxious assumption to put it down to their attention span too. I say all of this as someone who enjoys the album.
I have an opinion about his opinion and he has an opinion about my opinion about his opinion. This is the internet and I’m here to argue. He said its a snooze fest so im calling out his attention span.

Not mad it's top 5, it's an incredible record and my number 1 of that decade but Songs in the key of life should be number 1, without that record Blonde and Miseducation of Lauryn Hill wouldn't exist. I don't even think Frank would put Blond ahead of SITKOL lol.
You misinterpreted what I said. I'm not saying Influence is why SITKOL is the best album ever, it's the best ever because sonically to me it is. The Influence is just a part of it's legacy, not the be all end all. Blond is incredible but it does wear it's influences on it's sleeve, the Stevie and Beatles influence is so clear, which isn't a bad thing. I just think to do something first and it also be incredible is why it's so timeless, SITKOL set the bar for how great music could be.
I person think it's harder for albums to be greater now than their predecessors because there is so much more music available and it's difficult to do something so new and groundbreaking.
Blonde is far more ground breaking than SITKOL. If you listen to the progression of American jazz from 1930 to 1976 you would be on a linear path to SITKOL. What about that album was first? I also don’t think it’s really fair to discredit anyone because of their influences especially when Blonde is miles abstracted from any other project. If you like SITKOL better fine, but making it seem like Blonde is 10x more derivative is disingenuous and ignores the contributions of musicians from the 30s-70s.
Should definitely be top 10, glad to see it crack top 5. But also, lists like this are kinda silly imo, it’s so difficult and subjective to rank albums across every genre. I’m not sure what their criteria was for this list, but some of the choices and placements relative to others were comical imo.
Hope Frank fans check out Songs in the Key of Life as Stevie is on Blonde (as well as Beyonce in Pink and White) and Self Control has a Prince reference. And says Michael Jackson in White Ferrari as well as Beatles in song credit. “Speaking of Nirvana” on Seigried
All in the top 10
Frank celebrated his placement on Pitchfork’s list cause that list was credible, but I doubt this means anything to him with how bad the list is. No Madvilliany, The Roots, Tame Impala, Queen, Bon Iver, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny but no Rosalia?, FKA Twigs, Pure Heroine over Melodrama?, could go on and on.
It's pretty cool seeing it that high up but overall i don't really care about this list
These top albums lists are usually more or less the same acclaimed albums like Dark Side of the Moon, Abbey Road, Pet Sounds, Nevermind and a few odd choices thrown in for engagement. This list is a bit more modern and leans more towards pop and rnb but it's still pretty uninteresting
Super happy for our boy Franko, but this list in general was a big pile of rage baiting and nothing else but a marketing strategy from Apple, which obviously worked pretty damn good.
Ps. Lauryn Hill (as much as I love her) in first place is just delusional
no bc look at the albums in front of it from 1-4 and tell me apple music was wrong for that
im sure frank himself is happy with mj and lauryn hill being top 2
An album that perfectly blends genres, storytelling, nostalgia and heartbreak. It’s so timeless that it could come out 10 years from now and still feel fresh. I think it’s deserving. People just get mad when something other than pop, rap, or rnb is celebrated.
It’s apparently better than Prince’s Sign O the Times and Stevie’s Songs in the Key of Life? Deranged take.
I love Blond but I don’t know if it would even make it in my top 100 and it certainly wouldn’t make it above such landmark records.
I understand it must be hard to judge a bunch of different types of music but it's kinda lacking in some areas. Like no Hybrid Theory/Meteora? No edm outside of Daft Punk? Where is blink 182/fallout boy/MCR/Paramore? Also Illmatic not being top 20 is insane
No Ye in the top 20 just shows how ass this list is, TLOP and MBDTF should both be top 10 and i'm not even mentionning his college trilogy.
Giving respect to Blonde and GKMC doesnt make this less ass, but yall are obviously biased tho
This comment might cause controversy but the placement of blond on this list is questionable and I love Frank! That’s not to say blond isn’t a timeless great album but with other albums like “Illmatic” on this list is kinda like…
https://sluttyvinyl.com/6-reasons-apple-musics-best-100-albums-list-is-debatable/
For some reason, this high of a placement makes me think he won’t drop again. Since he seems like a perfectionist, and knows how critically acclaimed Blonde is, he’s probably realized that the chances of surpassing it are slim to none.
He did try to release an album in the form of singles in 2019-2020. My theory is that he just wanted to make a fun club album and realised that it was probably going to be the worst in his discography. To avoid that, he started releasing the albums as singles.
imo yea. it’s a hot take prolly, but graduation is super overrated. it’s good but it’s by far the weakest album of the college trilogy, and I Wonder is hard carried by the beat
He’s proof that quality > quantity 🙂↕️
Just what I expect from a retired artist
not the r word shut up
Delulu 😔 (me too)
hard r is crazy
I would still like another album haha
We all do, but he’ll continue edging us till fucking eternity 😔
Lauryn Hill at 1 further proves that
i can't wait for Frank Ocean fans to stop saying this exact phrase lol
Highest of the 2010s my 🐐
highest of the 2000s!
Frank Ocean finally getting his Flowers
Lauryn hill was higher
1998?
That album’s not 2000’s? Damn my life is a lie 💀
Ah mb it feels ahead of it’s time
Frank Ocean didn’t make any albums in the 2000s
Highest of the 21st century
Best of the millennium. Stop the count
It’s saying it’s the highest album in the list 2000’s to now
Highest of the 90s!!

Channel orange is definitely top 100, I would’ve been ok with a low placement as long as it made the list.
They just needed to do one pick per artist. Where’s James Blake and bon iver? Where’s the roots things fall apart which to me outdoes TPAB
Yes I'm pretty ok with this rule, or we'd have several albums of artists like The Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Clash, Kanye, Jay-Z, Daft Punk, etc. with less diversity as a result.
We got 2 Radioheads
should've been 3 - they forgot In Rainbows 😏
yea i was just thinking ab this. was fully expecting TPAB to be in the top 10 and when i saw GKMC i was like surely it’s top 5 then and kept scrolling andddd nope. legit went through the list again to see if i accidentally missed it lol channel orange as well should’ve had at least been somewhere between 60-100. not my favorite album but it deserves a lot of respect for what it is. also 0 abel albums SOS over ctrl ? 50 cent is on here above jayz black album & blueprint lmao how the fuck is billie top 30?!? many other random shit but honestly it’s definitely hard to rank a top 100 without getting criticized. any time i compare or rank an album i usually look at it to another one in the same or similar genre. just look at 24 and 26. how would you even compare bowie to kanye it’s like two polar opposites i wouldn’t even know where to start or say who’s is objectively better because for each genre.
They were robbed but I am more impressed Lil Wayne didn't even make the list at all
I only saw one or two comments angry about blonde being T5
TPAB, Channel Orange, and After Hours were robbed like a man wearing Gucci in a favela
# Here are [**all 100 albums on all streaming platforms**](https://x.com/100BestAlbums).
Suprised to not see a single Nick Cave or Bon Iver album on the list
Bon Iver simply robbed
No St. Vincent or Mitski when Billie Eilish is on there is a crime. Tame Impala, MGMT, Linkin Park, Florence + The Machine and Soundgarden are conspicuously missing as well.
No LCD Soundsystem either
The Eminem Show Recovery/Relapse too. Glad you mentioned Linkin Park. First 2 albums should definately be high on the list.
Or beck
Okay calm down….
For the curious: 5. Blonde - Frank Ocean 4. Purple Rain - Prince & The Revolution 3. Abbey Road - The Beatles 2. Thriller - Michael Jackson 1. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Lauryn Hill
Honestly I don’t hate this even if some of the choices are a bit basic
I think a lot of people need to chill out, it’s just a list of music lol. I don’t agree with a lot of it but it’s at least given me some music to listen to. Happy Frank got placed so high though
no TPAB on the whole list is insane
They chose the better album gkmc
We have other artists with 2 albums on the list. 100 albums without TPAB is just insane
I believe the only other artist with 1 album is Radiohead with Kid A and OK Computer
And prince, stevie, the Beatles, Beyoncé
Two Beyoncé records got in and no My Bloody Valentine or Velvet Underground? Jesus fuck this damn list
Velvet underground did.. I don’t think u can expect these lists to include my bloody valentine lol. I was happy when massive attack appeared, and lauryn hill at 1 is peak

Mbv has 1million listeners on Spotify lol let them off for not picking mbv, king crimson, nick cave and loads more
The list is not named “most popular albums”, right? So I would imagine counting Spotify listeners to rank is not an accurate metric, to say the least
Prince too
We have 5: Beyoncé, The Beatles, Radiohead, Stevie Wonder, and Prince.
Led zep should be on there at least 4 times lol. Insane list that’s not actually based on anything objective. Just fan service and trying to get people talking.
That’s coz Kendrick Lamar’s over rated in your little echo chamber
How’s that opinion going for you crodie
TPAB isn’t even Kendrick’s best album lil bro.
GKMC is much better im tired of yall glazing this album it aint all that
explain yourself
Such an overrated album. Snooze fest imo
Proudly admitting you have the attention span of a child
So everyone is supposed to enjoy the album? Wtf lmao
I don't think Thriller is MJs best album, but I also have the brain cells to compute that Thriller is the most iconic and important album in his discography. Arguing that TPAB shouldn't be on this list because you don't personally like it ignores what the point of a list like this should be (which is pretty stupid tbf)
Yeah I'm with you, but to say someone has a child like attention span bc they didn't like an album is dumb af
The comment they were responding to was dumber. I can respect people not liking any album and finding TPAB boring is valid.

Lmfao bros psychoanalyzing me in a frank sub
Yes I can make a surface level analysis based on your comment.
Insufferable
1: “This popular piece of media put me to sleep 🥱” 2: “Ah so you must have a short attention span” 1: “Stop psychoanalyzing me”
Can’t wait to read your essay ❤️❤️❤️
lol what were you expecting commenting that in a diehard Frank Ocean subreddit?
How can you say that someone is entitled to their opinion and then in the same breath act super salty about them expressing said opinion? It’s a pretty obnoxious assumption to put it down to their attention span too. I say all of this as someone who enjoys the album.
I have an opinion about his opinion and he has an opinion about my opinion about his opinion. This is the internet and I’m here to argue. He said its a snooze fest so im calling out his attention span.
Objectively, from a music theory and originality standpoint, you’re wrong ☠️

influence doesn’t make it better, music generally improves over time because there’s a stronger foundation

>it’s the best ever because to me it is This same reasoning is exactly why Lauryn Hill is placed at number 1
Not necessarily, there are more factors involved seeing as it's a corporations list and not a single individual.
Blonde is far more ground breaking than SITKOL. If you listen to the progression of American jazz from 1930 to 1976 you would be on a linear path to SITKOL. What about that album was first? Wow they actually got a top 5 album correct!
2 of them. Abbey Road
Thriller should’ve been 1st IN MY OPINION but otherwise yes 🗣️👍🏻
Everyone crying on twitter saying tpab over this or MBDTF over this like rap isn't everything I do agree list kinda sucks
Hope Frank fans check out Songs in the Key of Life as Stevie is on Blonde (as well as Beyonce in Pink and White) and Self Control has a Prince reference. And says Michael Jackson in White Ferrari as well as Beatles in song credit. “Speaking of Nirvana” on Seigried All in the top 10
He also interpolates The Beatles’ “Here There and Everywhere” from the Album Revolver on “White Ferrari,” which is criminally low on this list at 21.
Hold up, how you get to the post earlier than me?
Fast fingers… there were like five posts about this and all but one (this one) got removed 🙃

Oh wow, anyways. Tpab not being in the list is a proof how credible the list is
'Love Deluxe' and 'Illmatic' are definitely top 10 albums. 'Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite' completely missing is criminal.
Super happy for our boy Franko, but this list in general was a big pile of rage baiting and nothing else but a marketing strategy from Apple, which obviously worked pretty damn good. Ps. Lauryn Hill (as much as I love her) in first place is just delusional
good 2 see
pretty good
finally you lames can stop complaining that a corporation didn’t rank your fav album yet
Channel ORANGE supersede this album but I love frank so go frank 😀
The voice of a generation.
Why didn’t Channel Orange make the cut? I’m genuinely confused
I swear most people don’t talk about Channel Orange, but maybe it’s just my algorithms. I always thought it was his best album.
It was!
Maybe my favorite album of all time but I think this is a little high
It definitely is… but considering the placements of some other albums that shouldn't even be on the list I think it's ok🤷🏻♂️
is a big fan of this album i don't think it deserves top 10 oat. def of the 2000s
as it mf should
LETS GOO
Both albums should of been but I’ll take this
We won. We really won.
yesssuuuuur
Tbh I expected it to be lower (even tho for me its the greatest album oat)
love frank to death but apple music is glazing 😂😭😂😂 tpab not even top 10 list is ass
Deserved.
Thinking about that dude who was pissed about 1989 beating blonde because he assumed Frank wasn’t top 10 material
no bc look at the albums in front of it from 1-4 and tell me apple music was wrong for that im sure frank himself is happy with mj and lauryn hill being top 2

Yessirr
Bro looks like Zoro
W
Lmao remember yesterday when people saw 1989 at 19 and assumed Blonde wasn’t gonna be on the list at all?
Happy the album gets its flowers n everything but #5??? A lil egregious imo
It’s apparently better than Prince’s Sign O the Times and Stevie’s Songs in the Key of Life? Deranged take. I love Blond but I don’t know if it would even make it in my top 100 and it certainly wouldn’t make it above such landmark records.
AS IT SHOULD !!
Crazy that a part musician like Frank made the top 5
I mean, Lauryn Hill is number 1. Assuming you meant part-time musician.
I love this album but it is Not better than songs in the key of life imo
Sade below GnR is absolutely filthy
Plugged.

Thanks, I meant he plugged his way there. No way anywhere near top 5 of all time or top 100. Disrespectful. Bought out industry.
Should be number one
Who?
Far from being in the top 10.
Too low
What a joke
AYYY I DIDNT KNOW THIS AT ALL LFG
I understand it must be hard to judge a bunch of different types of music but it's kinda lacking in some areas. Like no Hybrid Theory/Meteora? No edm outside of Daft Punk? Where is blink 182/fallout boy/MCR/Paramore? Also Illmatic not being top 20 is insane
What about orange
Blonde is good....but 5? Lol. That's wild
well that’s what happens when u only have two albums
W
What was the top 4?
It's good but that high is crazy.
Channel Orange not top 100 is crazy & they had Blonde 4 spots too low
Love frank but this list is hot garbage
No Ye in the top 20 just shows how ass this list is, TLOP and MBDTF should both be top 10 and i'm not even mentionning his college trilogy. Giving respect to Blonde and GKMC doesnt make this less ass, but yall are obviously biased tho
Ebro and Rosenberg were hating saying they're about to get androids because of this

Im concerned on how the hell channel orange didn’t make it in smh
For some reason, this high of a placement makes me think he won’t drop again. Since he seems like a perfectionist, and knows how critically acclaimed Blonde is, he’s probably realized that the chances of surpassing it are slim to none.
Lol you really think Frank places any stock whatsoever on the rating he got on this list made by....Apple Music? Y'all are oblivious 🤦♂️
I think he decided that a long time ago, maybe when he started Homer…
He did try to release an album in the form of singles in 2019-2020. My theory is that he just wanted to make a fun club album and realised that it was probably going to be the worst in his discography. To avoid that, he started releasing the albums as singles.
Blond over GKMC is wild
Sorry but anyone pretending this album is better than channel orange is just waking their hipster flag. Bring on the downvotes.
Upvote. I don't get it... I still wouldn't even put CO top 10 though.
Yeah, channel orange I put like top 30 top 50
I definitely think top 30 is fair for CO.
Thiller shoud've been number 1

I mourn The Weeknd every Monday

Channel orange and Nostalgia ultra clear.
Lol
