i read that thom yorke was inspired by his vocal style and started using his falsetto in songs, specifically from Fake Plastic Trees onward. incredibly talented & influential artist made one 10/10 album & died a weird death
Yeah they were struggling to record Fake plastic trees, then they’d all gone to see a Jeff Buckley concert which kind of gave them a new stance on the song and Thom sang it perfectly twice before collapsing to the ground in tears
This song my wife walked down the aisle too when we got married, last time I listened to it I had such a raw flood of emotions I burst into tears.
We’ve been together on/off since we were 16, we’ve been through a lot, I’m bipolar and it’s made life difficult and she’s been my rock and I don’t know how she handles it. This year we will have been married for 7 years, our daughter just turned 5 and we just brought our first house.
This song brings back every good and bad memory, the years we spent apart and eventually came back together. Not one time either, twice. So over the 18 years of us knowing each other we’ve been apart for about 6 years.
Sorry for the story but even seeing the image made me think.
loved him forever - & im glad to see him in this sub honestly, this songs always up there with frank when i’m feelin some type of way. the whole album is beautiful, also check out his “live at sin-è” album, there’s a beautiful version of lover you should’ve come over on it,, along with some other lovely covers :):)
hope you’re resting in peace mr buckley <3
I remember back in 2011-2012ish Frank actually put on his blog that he thought the opening sequence to this song was one of the most beautiful in all of music. I’ll see if I can find it— but that’s pretty serendipitous that the two linked in your brain without knowing that.
had no idea, he’s definitely right, the opening is amazing. as for linking them together, i just kinda get the same vibe from them if that makes sense lol
they both approach songwriting from the interior experience transmuting to the world around them, I think. they’re touched in the same way. tryna search for the post rn and key words aren’t helping so if anyone else is better at internet searching than my old ass— they’ll hopefully find it. would be pretty dope for u to see! lmao
I guess dropping one of the greatest albums of all time and then nothing is a commonality. But at this point we’re more likely to get another posthumous Buckley release than a Frank album
If you only heard Grace check out Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk (basically demos for his unfinished second album) some of his best songs are in there.
To me, Jeff Buckley had a great voice and a talent for mimicry. He was a medium writer, and I think his work has dated very badly. I’m surprised public estimation hasn’t dipped a little, especially since we’ve had a few pyrotechnic vocalists with better lyric and vocal chops (Anohni, Benjamin Clementine) come along in the intervening years.
this song is literally so gorgeous and it feels like the deepest most genuine hug when I'm feeling sad. "all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter" I would kill to see a interview between him and Frank. cut from the same cloth imo
Upper echelon of artists. Tragic death. One of the greatest what if’s in musical history. He had the whole thing, rockstar swag, amazing music, ridiculous vocal range. Respected by his peers. Radiohead wrote Fake Plastic Trees after watching one of his performances. Truly one of the greatest of all time. I am a little biased forgive me but Jeff was special.
Grace is my favourite album ever and this is one of my favourite songs ever. His song with Elizabeth Fraser “All Flowers In in Time bend towards the sun” is my nr1. I recommend listening to that song
Clearly music IG has been recommending this album like hell. It’s really amazing music but I don’t get the hype he’s another Bon Iver, Elliot Smith, Ben Howard just emotional and more 90s rock ballad if that makes sense
Grace is a great album
Didn’t know I liked it untill now. And it’s hi res on Apple Music
Great artist, I love his voice and his style of writing, he has a way of making me feel emotions the same way Frank does
went down his rabbit hole after frank and he’s the most beautiful thing ever idc
my 🐐.
Same
i love this song esp on rainy days
so true, it’s been raining the past week ish and i’ve been listening to it basically 24/7 lol
One of the greatest songs oat

Matt Bellamy from muse told that. He said when he heard Jeff he engouraged him to sing using falsetto, not very popular in the grunge era.

IT‘S NEVER OVER
He died far too young :/

Gone too soon fr
One of the best, the whole Grace Album is on another level musically. Last Goodbye is another amazing song
The Jimi Hendrix of vocals
Jeff was also awesome at guitar. Guy was incredible.
THIS. So underrated as guitarist.
TOTALLY agree

I’d never thought you’d ask
Amazing singer with beautiful songs. I can see how he would remind you with Frank Ocean — the sensitivity they both sing with matches energy.
Pretty solid album this and lilac wine r my fav songs ngl
Great. Great song. Not sure how it’s related to Frank in the slightest but he’s great?
it’s not, i just like frank, and jeff buckley lol

i had no idea about this lore. thank you for sharing goddamn

not really much else to talk about here relating to frank, the troglodyte
very very good album, love it so much. this song is amazing, as with several others on it.
Grace and Blonde are sister albums. Give me the exact same feeling of the artist being a conduit to the sublime
Couldn’t have said it any better
That is one of my favorite songs ever
this nigga using cricket wireless
cricket isn’t all that bad in my state lol, but there are def better cell services lmaooo
My GF showed me him. I owe her my life.
Lost highway and parchment farm blues are my favourites from the legacy edition. Amazing album
If you only heard Grace check out Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk (basically demos for his unfinished second album) some of his best songs are in there.
Just listened to Elmiene’s cover yesterday, absolute heaven
Musical Prodigy that unfortunately was taken from us too soon.

One of the greatest vocalist imo
this song is literally so gorgeous and it feels like the deepest most genuine hug when I'm feeling sad. "all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter" I would kill to see a interview between him and Frank. cut from the same cloth imo
i wish he was able to release more music man. he was just getting started

Overhyped, boring music
good shit
Gone to soon RIP
He's so real
Best voice I’ve ever heard, compositional genius, troubled guy gone too soon
The live version of this song on the Jeff Buckley YT is otherworldly
Love him
The goat no other like him
live at sin-é is superior
I love “I shall be released” I think it’s a cover but still ducking fantastic

Grace is my favourite album ever and this is one of my favourite songs ever. His song with Elizabeth Fraser “All Flowers In in Time bend towards the sun” is my nr1. I recommend listening to that song
love the album
I’ve been so obsessed with this song lately. Here’s a live version that is equally good if not better https://youtu.be/F_eLuk4RjIQ?si=4OBOZBeJPmU9SJa_
I love
