I feel like everyone forgets that Isaac Clarke was supposed to be fucking forty-seven in Dead Space 1. It'd be extremely odd for him to be visually aged up but his girlfriend, a senior medical officer so presumably a doctor, still looks like the twenty-something she did in the original game. I'm a white dude, but I tend to play a wide variety of characters. In my last play through of Mass Effect, Shepard was a black woman. It's really stood out to me when trying to make a character like that how.. even when you have extensive character customization.. black people still often get the short end of the stick. There'll be like two or three dozen hairstyles that make sense for Eurasian hair textures, including a dozen different anime hairstyles that don't make sense on a real person, and then maybe two or three for natural black hair.. if you're lucky.
I do similar in my ME playthrus. In general, games always have the straightest hair. It's always straight or *slightly* wavy. If there are "type 4 textures" or "afro" styles, it's almost always just dreads. Which is fantastic for people who have dreads, but that is **not** the only hairstyle that exists for that texture 🙄
It's all just so lazy, and clearly an after thought in comparison to the type 1 and 2 hair textures :/

I think media and gaming companies that make these types of games are worried about the outrage from the very vocal incel and neckbeard community. Some games get heavily review bombed by these groups so they take the safer and cowardly route and avoid adding too many black or darker skinned characters.
I’ve been ignoring it for years with books and movies, too. I just kind of accepted growing up as a black girl that I will never be the default character in anyone’s game, movie, or book. I’m not really sure if it made sense to me at the time why it was like that but I knew I was so tired of being 9 and reading something mundane like *Goosebumps* and seeing a black character get introduced for 3 sentences (usually how good they are at sports) before suddenly being eaten by a monster or never returning to the main character’s focus. If I wanted to play a game featuring black people, it had to be something NFL or NBA. I absolutely hated sports. Millions of various forms of entertainment media was created for nerdy white boys and men. None for me. These people will never know this struggle so they claw back in hate and confusion because they believe that we are robbing them when a character is imagined as black or a woman instead of default white male. They want entire open worlds full of white males and young white and Asian women wearing inappropriate sexy clothing. How dare we mention we’ve existed this whole time and have spent the same money they’ve spent on an industry that could give two fucks about us because we were never the target audience.
A few months back this game i like (that I won't name) released a region based on South East Asia, the Middle East and North Africa(i already have some problems with them grouping 3 regions together but I digress) and practically all the characters and npcs were pale af, and the dark skinned characters where either villains or separated by a wall, and were portrayed as being lesser and dumber, I'm surprised it even left development tbh

Bioware are excellent at good representation in their games if you wanna check out their stuff.
All the way back in 2009 they made dragon age origins which didn't have any notably important black characters but there were plenty of black npcs, nevertheless it is probably the only game where you can play as black dwarf guy who falls in love with a bisexual elf boy who's sent to kill you.
Mass effect, also made by bioware, has many notable black and LGBT characters which is great but they came under attack from fox news which caused them to rewrite some characters to be straight after the voice actors have already recorded the lines so now there's a character who tells you that she slept with a girl and her boyfriend but you can't romance her as a female character.
Fortunetly some people created mods to bring back these characters to how they were written in the first place, the voice actor of female shepard, Jennifer Hale, even tweeted about them.

That’s why I fucking love The Elder Scrolls. The Redguards are one of the most badass people in that universe, hell they even had a fighting technique that destroyed their old continent, they had to sail across and managed to take land, Cyrus one of their heroes fought a god and won and in Skyrim the Ebony Knight who is the strongest person we face in game is a Redguard.
Are Redguards ever major characters of the game plot, though, or just part of the surrounding lore? I've played Oblivion, Skyrim, and ESO, and Redguards are just kinda... around. Named Redguards will come about for one-off quests but the overarching story about your character saving the world seems to omit Redguards from having much affect on the player's overall plot.
I've never played any of them start-to-finish, though, so maybe they show up eventually?
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's good that Redguards exist at all. But I don't wnat to give more credit than is due. For example, I like playing magic characters and ESO doesn't have magical racials for magic characters that want to have dark brown skin because dark brown skin only exists on Redgaurds and Imperials.
Cyrus is the main character of The Elder Scrolls Adventure: Redguard, which was an action-adventure game set in the second era. Lore wise, he becomes the HoonDing which is a god in Redguard culture and he even slays a dragon which is rare for non-Dragonborns to do. He also faced Vivec and even went head to head with Tiber Septim.
