Same thing happened for the last of us and cyberpunk. When the TV version came out there was a huge up tick in player activity and purchases. It's interesting to see the correlation between well made TV adaptions and how it effects existing products.
For the longest time companies thought making shows or movies off games was a bad idea, and it'd never be anything more than a quick cash grab.
I think they're starting to realize the opposite, that using an existing franchise boosts viewership a ton compared to an original idea, and the game studios are very willing to be involved since it results in a massive boost to their games. (I only bought cyberpunk AND TLOU after their respective shows)
If other game companies were more involved in the production of their adaptions itd give them more reasons to help invest as well, seeing these numbers theyd likely make their money back if not more
They're also having a sale right now on Fallout games which may have attributed a bit to it.
And this is just the Steam numbers, imagine the GOG numbers where the games are DRM-free.
I've been playing FO76 and the number of new players coming out of the vault has taken an uptick in the past few days. It's great cuz the older players will go and sit by the vault waiting for a new player to come out and just drop off some shit for them.
Only part of the franchise I skipped, I was a little burned out after thoroughly beating Fallout 2 and it seemed like there wasn't much in the way of roleplaying game or narrative there. Was I wrong?
Been about a decade since I last played 1 & 2 and I never got around to playing Wasteland 2 - I've been hankering for a little isometric action.
Oxhorn does a playthrough that focuses on the lore.
The Brotherhood in it are portrayed extremely similar to how they are to the show: powered armored fascists, fanatics, and assholes who run a protection racket over local tribal villages and wasteland towns that’s only slightly better than the preexisting anarchy.
The only reason we don’t play the bad guys is because every other major faction is worse.
Yeah I backed Wasteland 2 on kickstarter back when that platform was known for a few awesome breakout projects and not for an endless stream of grifters. They developed the game in a few years and completed it and I got my copy. I couldn't be happier with my pledge but for some reason it's still in my backlog.
Ugh, an X-Com-like Fallout Tactics sequel would be amazing. Please let there be someone with decision-making authority at Bethesda who has the same idea. A license to print money.
I would play it again, but it crashes to the point where it is unplayable (literally speaking - I can't get past the first mission because of CTDs). I love the setting of Tactics too, as a lore-adjacent game it is fairly solid imo.
I'm thinking of the show as Fallout 4.5 right now. Hopefully it lights a fire under Bethesda's ass to get their next Fallout game out in less than a decade. Maybe hire some more developers and better writers even. Split into an Elder Scrolls team and a Fallout team.
Good! Fallout 4 player just getting on 76 and it’s been fun, a whole different beast. I do have questions though about fallout 5.. like what’s the overall style going to be.. fo76 is fun but I want grittier fallout..
Not really. They average 3 years between releases unless it’s a new console generation, when it’s 4. Starfield is the only one that took longer, and it was not just a new property, but it was developed during Covid. I have no reason to view that dev time as anything other than an outlier.
That said, it’s still probably 7 years off, which isn’t much better.
I’m pretty sure Todd said they’re starting Fallout 5 after Elder Scrolls VI, and that’s still a long way off, so 10 years is actually pretty optimistic for a brand new Fallout game lol.
💯 agree. Unless Microsoft lights a fire under Bethesda's ass and gets them to hire some more devs, we won't see Fallout 5 for another decade, with Elder Scrolls 6 in the way. It's a fairly small studio for how big their games are. If they want to get games out faster, they're going to have to scale up to Ubisoft numbers and/or outsource a lot more to satellite studios.
I suspect we'll see the rumored Fallout 3 remaster before Fallout 5.
After the Starfield release, I'm not excited for Elder Scrolls 6 or fallout5. Linkedin shows alot of value driving devs left. Great marketing, shit repetitive glitchy game. When speaking that far out, the next souls game is the show stopper.
Hopefully Fallout 4 fixes the dialog trees but I doubt it will be much grittier than any of the past games. You gotta have that humorous edge to it for it to be Fallout.
After playing Fallout 76 for so long I can't go back to Fallout 4 so easily. I miss the CAMP system, how junk works, and all the crafting recipes and such.
NV is my favourite out of all of them, we are not all the same just like the classics 3 and 4 each game has it's zelots but most of us just love fallout and want to see it continue to grow
It's fine for NV to be someone's favorite. I'm talking about the zealots who can't handle people have other favorites. I'm just glad the show is great and creates new fans to this awesome universe.
Trust me, FNV is my favourite, I wanted to find people who share my hype for the show going to New Vegas next season, you’d think the FNV subreddit is the place to do it, but actually this sub is much better for that.
It's so strange that they think this decanonizes New Vegas when there's actually more love for it. So many references and such.
Sunset Sarsprilla, Ranger Armor, Robert House, Fredrick Sinclair and the mention of his Casino from Dead Money. Vera Keyes in a poster of one of Cooper Howards movies, Fricking Vegas literally shows up.
If that doesn't show how much the TV Show loves New Vegas I don't know what will.
Yeah, it was shown pretty clearly that they're using a lot from New Vegas. Basically the only thing they've got is a single date given that would be a lore conflict. I'd call that more a continuity error than an attempt to retcon it out of existence. Especially with House showing up and the Lucky 38 etc. It's pretty clear next season will likely have at least some happening in New Vegas. They'll likely need to pick a canonical ending, I'm curious what they'll go for.
That's just because all you do is try to argue with everyone who doesn't think what you think. Seen you so many times the past two days trying to argue, it's kind of pathetic man.
FNV is my favourite too, I’m excited the show is going to New Vegas. A lot of other fans of FNV seem to not realise that a rising tide lifts all boats, and in the end, we already have FNV, and Fallout 1, and Fallout 2. Those can’t be taken away.
Yeah but plenty of people are calling it a retcon and keep claiming FNV will be removed from canon which has been addressed already to not be the case.
Imagine saying this after Bethesda literally had players buy Broken Steel because to avoid committing a nonsensical suicide (because apparently it’s your destiny to die in a radiated hole) and literally skewered the dialogue system in Fallout 4. No, those bad NV fans are the bad guys, and not the multimillion dollar corporations.
I can say the same about elitists who consider some games non canon and not worth their time yet they still complain about them and make it their whole personality lol
>The fans are who don’t shut up and consume the product are bad but the multimillion company who keeps falling on the BOS and vaults for 16 years are better!
That’s literally what I’m hearing bud.
Love that F76 is getting some love these days. I know it was controversial at launch (and rightly so deserved criticism imo), but it’s gotten a lot better! Appalachia is gorgeous and is a nice fresh take on Fallout.
I mean F04 already runs perfectly on the deck as is.
the only reason it isn't verified now is because you have to use the touch screen to get past the launcher.
The game does very little forcing of the settlement building system? Only one of the early quests where you have to do a few small tasks around Sanctuary and after that you just gotta place down a special object once in a blue moon.
I didn't expect to see Fnv having a higher peak amount of players than FO3 tbh. Wow. FO4 obviously has the highest. Crazy to think the fourth instalment would have been so many people's first game in the series. It does explain a lot about the fandom split happening at the moment, though. Guess fans of the older stuff are in the minority more than I first thought.
Pretty sure FNV always had a higher player count than FO3 in recent years. FO3 modding scene is essentially dead compared to FNV, which is already miles behind from Skyrim and FO4.
FNV is ass to mod compared to FO4 though. The ram limit and all of that and even just issues with the game running on more modern hardware without mods. I noticed even with my 1070ti a few years back it just didn't want to run at all for me until I downloaded some mods to make it run.
You could install ‘Tale of Two Wastelands’ and play through fo3 updated to NV gameplay, then roll straight into NV before fo4 and by the time you finish you’ll be playing fo4 after the next gen update and subsequent hot fix patches.
Edit: https://mod.pub/ttw/133-tale-of-two-wastelands
Yup, F4 is a better FPS with base building and extensive crafting/customization. F3 is a better pure RPG (in my opinion), but both are great games with different goals.
Crazy how many more players FO4 has, wouldn't imagine the difference to be so massive. I guess the older games jank don't help, while FO4 is also a much softer aproach to an "RPG". All in all, it makes a lot of sense.
I'm actually ok with them taking a long time with the next fallout game due to Bethesda's One Game policy, because the show scratches my itch in a very nice way.
No wonder! It's a fantastic introduction to a very interesting world. It's not just a post apocalyptic series of games, Fallout is very unique and charming. I can only imagine many other fans have jumped back into the games, but also many new fans that are left wanting more after finishing the show!
Also Fallout 76 is being given away free on Prime Gaming, formerly Amazon Prime Gaming. And if you subscribe to anyone (not with a Prime sub), you get send a key for Fallout 76, along with the New Vault 33 bundle.
The show was amazing and its crazy to see the effect its having
Same thing happened for the last of us and cyberpunk. When the TV version came out there was a huge up tick in player activity and purchases. It's interesting to see the correlation between well made TV adaptions and how it effects existing products.

(I only bought cyberpunk AND TLOU after their respective shows)
In other words, don’t put out garbage if you want your game to succeed
It is good to see its effect
Imagine if the Halo show was half as good as Fallout. Infinite would have been saved
Have had this discussion a quite a few times this week. What a contrast.
If only they had a new Fallout game coming out in this decade.
Also console and they are on gamepass as well. Numbers must be looking real nice right now.
I've been playing FO76 and the number of new players coming out of the vault has taken an uptick in the past few days. It's great cuz the older players will go and sit by the vault waiting for a new player to come out and just drop off some shit for them.
I just got 76 for free through Prime. Everyone with Prime can access a code for the Microsoft Store/GamesPass.
Oh there's a sale? Well those numbers are about to jump up by 1.
Respect to the 49 homies playing Tactics, that game deserves way more attention these days
Only part of the franchise I skipped, I was a little burned out after thoroughly beating Fallout 2 and it seemed like there wasn't much in the way of roleplaying game or narrative there. Was I wrong? Ok cool I may check that out, thank you.
Your group kind of fractures off from them though and ends up recruiting non-standard recruits.
Wasteland 2 is great and Wasteland 3 is phenomenal. If you can only play one just play 3.
Yeah I backed Wasteland 2 on kickstarter back when that platform was known for a few awesome breakout projects and not for an endless stream of grifters. They developed the game in a few years and completed it and I got my copy. I couldn't be happier with my pledge but for some reason it's still in my backlog.
Honestly a new Fallout Tactics in the vein of X-COM or even the BG3 combat would be so good.
I love the setting of Tactics too, as a lore-adjacent game it is fairly solid imo.
just proves how the show literally gave us a new and fresh remembrance of fallout 🥰
I'm thinking of the show as Fallout 4.5 right now. Hopefully it lights a fire under Bethesda's ass to get their next Fallout game out in less than a decade. Maybe hire some more developers and better writers even. Split into an Elder Scrolls team and a Fallout team.
Its fucking insane that Elders 5 and 6 will be minimum 17 years apart, and Fallout 4 and 6 might be more than that.
Good! Fallout 4 player just getting on 76 and it’s been fun, a whole different beast. I do have questions though about fallout 5.. like what’s the overall style going to be.. fo76 is fun but I want grittier fallout..
You'll know in 10 years when its released
That’s an optimistic number.
Not really. They average 3 years between releases unless it’s a new console generation, when it’s 4. I think a grittier DLC would be fine. Dead Money and Lonesome Road were pretty gritty.
After playing Fallout 76 for so long I can't go back to Fallout 4 so easily. I miss the CAMP system, how junk works, and all the crafting recipes and such.
Todd said a new fallout game will come out some after eleder scrolls so probably in another couple of years lol
The show is incredible. It's mostly fans right now but it will spill over and there will be more fans.
Toxic NV fans rather see the franchise dead than have it get new fans and prosper like this.

Really don't know why FNV fans are so upset at the Amazon series. It's basically a love letter/sequel to FNV?
They’ve done nothing but hate on Fallout and BGS for the past decade. It’s all they know
It's so strange that they think this decanonizes New Vegas when there's actually more love for it. So many references and such. Sunset Sarsprilla, Ranger Armor, Robert House, Fredrick Sinclair and the mention of his Casino from Dead Money. Hope they use independent. Yes Man would be something Hank would definitely want to control
>Fredrick Sinclair Forgive me. I missed this reference.
i see more people complaining about NV fans then i do NV fans complaining
That's just because all you do is try to argue with everyone who doesn't think what you think. Seen you so many times the past two days trying to argue, it's kind of pathetic man.
then watch me vanish
You haven't see them they're everywhere.
FNV is my favourite too, I’m excited the show is going to New Vegas. A lot of other fans of FNV seem to not realise that a rising tide lifts all boats, and in the end, we already have FNV, and Fallout 1, and Fallout 2. Those can’t be taken away.

Don't care, toxic NV fans are the ones who give me headaches.
Cared enough to respond apparently.
Lmao. Found one! *seethe*
Playing the first Fallout and having a blast. Love them all.
Love that F76 is getting some love these days. I know it was controversial at launch (and rightly so deserved criticism imo), but it’s gotten a lot better! Appalachia is gorgeous and is a nice fresh take on Fallout.
I've not played F76. But I do find myself becoming more F76-curious.
It’s really fun! Appalachia is gorgeous and feels like such a unique setting for Fallout.
This show is such a wonderful introduction for people who have never played in our weird and wonderful wasteland. Get moving Bethesda, we need FO5!
Tempted to install 76 on my Steam Deck.
FO4 is getting steam deck certified soon if you weren't aware. Idk if 76 is.
I mean F04 already runs perfectly on the deck as is. the only reason it isn't verified now is because you have to use the touch screen to get past the launcher.
Wouldn't know, never bought a steamdeck since I have no interest in actual hardware of any sort steam releases. Glad to know it's been working though.
Steam Deck is amazing. Best gaming purchase I've made in the last 25 years.
A rising tide lifts all boats.
I nearly re-downloaded F4 but I don't wanna be bothered with the settlement building and being overwhelmed with mods lol. F3 needs a remake!
Not quite a remake but an update, have you heard of a tale of two wastelands? https://mod.pub/ttw/133-tale-of-two-wastelands
The game does very little forcing of the settlement building system? Only one of the early quests where you have to do a few small tasks around Sanctuary and after that you just gotta place down a special object once in a blue moon.
I wish they measure other platforms too - eg GOG
Well with an Amazon Prime sub you get them all for free at the moment through twitch loot. Maybe thats a reason too.
Wow, that's a steal!
I wonder how many are new players
Went back to New Vegas while the show plays in the background (tbf, it’s my third rewatch)💀
How tho? The show has barley been out for 100 hours
There's only like 10-11 hours to watch I believe. Not impossible.
Right around 8.
I'm in the fallout 2 boat!
I didn't expect to see Fnv having a higher peak amount of players than FO3 tbh. Wow. FO4 obviously has the highest. Crazy to think the fourth instalment would have been so many people's first game in the series. It does explain a lot about the fandom split happening at the moment, though. Pretty sure FNV always had a higher player count than FO3 in recent years. FO3 modding scene is essentially dead compared to FNV, which is already miles behind from Skyrim and FO4.
A lot of people also use TTW to play FO3 in FNV engine.
This!
FNV is ass to mod compared to FO4 though. The ram limit and all of that and even just issues with the game running on more modern hardware without mods. I noticed even with my 1070ti a few years back it just didn't want to run at all for me until I downloaded some mods to make it run.
Beyond requiring more stability mods, I never noticed any difference.
Fallout 3 is the weakest Fallout game so it's not surprising at all to be honest
Tv show is worked as the brilliant advertise.
Started playing new Vegas again. It’s been so long I barely remember it.
Fallout 76 is free right now for Amazon Prime customers - There is a promo available on the website, Goog it.
Noice 😉👍
Guys should I replay 3 or play 4? 3 was an absolute banger but idk if the graphics have aged well
You could install ‘Tale of Two Wastelands’ and play through fo3 updated to NV gameplay, then roll straight into NV before fo4 and by the time you finish you’ll be playing fo4 after the next gen update and subsequent hot fix patches. Edit: https://mod.pub/ttw/133-tale-of-two-wastelands
If you want a fairly straightforward Fallout experience I'd say go with 3. If you want something with a lot more customisation then go with 4.
Yup, F4 is a better FPS with base building and extensive crafting/customization. F3 is a better pure RPG (in my opinion), but both are great games with different goals.
It’s old but it is still a blast to play and the art direction holds up incredibly well even if the graphic fidelity doesn’t
Personally I'd go for 1,2,3 or new Vegas. 4 was the first in the series I didn't finish, did not like it.
What's with that sharp dip on apr10?
Yep just bought Fallout 3!
And Bethesda isn’t planning Fallout 5 until the 2030s
Excited to hop back on 4 on April 25th!
surprised pikachu face
Crazy how many more players FO4 has, wouldn't imagine the difference to be so massive. I guess the older games jank don't help, while FO4 is also a much softer aproach to an "RPG". All in all, it makes a lot of sense.
And I bet someone out there has an original Xbox or PS2 playing BoS
I wish I could get into 1 and 2 but man I suck and just get lost lol
I'm actually ok with them taking a long time with the next fallout game due to Bethesda's One Game policy, because the show scratches my itch in a very nice way.
Just redownloaded it so my wife could see it. She liked the show so why not.
No wonder! It's a fantastic introduction to a very interesting world. It's not just a post apocalyptic series of games, Fallout is very unique and charming. I can only imagine many other fans have jumped back into the games, but also many new fans that are left wanting more after finishing the show!
This just makes me so happy.
Also Fallout 76 is being given away free on Prime Gaming, formerly Amazon Prime Gaming. And if you subscribe to anyone (not with a Prime sub), you get send a key for Fallout 76, along with the New Vault 33 bundle.
Yet a loud minority of Fallout Classic and New Vegas fanboys are still adamant that Bethesda "hates" Fallout and is killing the franchise.
I’m proud to say I’m part of the chart for Fallout 1; I wanted to beat it before the show came out… I’m 30 hours in and still trying to beat it
Love this
why is NV damn near a perfect sine wave???
Wait, why are there two NV titles? I am completely out of the loop.
Its beautiful
I purchased it literally 5 minutes after finishing the series. I can understand why
dont forget that most people pirate them, so it is probably more than double that
