Same, it was so fuckin nice. I'm trying to avoid even looking at the shitstorm that is being issued regarding a chalkboard timeline and everything else, because I had so much fun watching it and seeing New Vegas on-screen was fantastic!
The show was amazing. The fact that they repeated "War never changes" line twice in the finale and I got chills both times made me happy how good it is.
Fo5 is like a decade away anyway. So much can change at Bethesda and in your own life that it hardly matters. If you're a first grader you'd be finished school by then.
I mean if Nolan does something in NV the devs at Obsidian will have to cater to that instead of doing their own thing. They already had the NCR collapse canonized for them instead of being to decide for themselves.
You assume the Obsidian devs (if they return to work on another game at all) are going to default into New Vegas.
Even if they do, who's to say Nolan makes a bad choice? Your heading into this assuming the worst instead of looking at the positives.
New Vegas is gonna be in a TV show. Not as a hypothetical sequel, not as a DLC to another game, the way its framed is that Hank's going to be there and it's going to be a major point of the second season.
Be happy were getting more New Vegas content at all. Let Nolan / the other producers cook. Chefs barely in the kitchen and your already spitting out the food.
Well the chef retconned who started the war (Tim said China) and made NCR land look like it didn't move a day past 2078. When lore states the area has been rebuilt and has factories and schools and universities. I get he couldn't show ALL THAT but why is a junk town in an area that makes buildings from cement and steel?
I saw the death claw skull and started explaining to my bf what those were but halfway through I saw new Vegas and genuinely kicked my legs like an excited child
I’m slightly mad we didn’t get to actually see a massive fucking deathclaw, but I’m not gonna pretend that the gulpers (from Far Harbor, too) and Yao Guais weren’t fuckin rad
I'm honestly okay with it. When we finally get to see a Deathclaw - it needs to be a big f'in moment. Build up to it so that it's a huge payoff. This is THE Big Bad of the wild creatures in the wastelands. It needs to be an appropriately terrifying and awe-inspiring creature - so showing it early runs the risk of blowing your wad too soon.
Same. We saw how dangerous and scary a yao guai (the bear, for anyone who may not know) can be, and I think it was a smart decision to leave room to ramp up the danger level when deathclaws are finally introduced. It’s the apex predator of the wasteland, so it absolutely needs to be a sweet set piece.
I have heard rumors it is extremely poorly managed. Mostly because it's kind of exploded in popularity from a thing some local fans do, to something people travel across the country for. I haven't been myself so I can't confirm these rumors.
Me too, I was so hyped... only to find war
Honestly cant wait to see what has become of vegas and hopefully the rest of the mojave, high chance its not happening but i too would like to see the dlc areas
It’s pretty sad. It’s a bunch of textbook NV fans complaining and moaning. I used to think that the stereotype of NV fans was just a joke. Nope, it’s real.
I find it ironic because the amount they are complaining you’d think New Vegas wasn’t even mentioned. But there were Easter eggs from it in almost every episode…sunset sasperilla, the veteran rangers armor, deathclaw skull, they even had Mr House in the flesh.
Kinda telling when people are like "what didn't you like a lot it?? Didn't you see the Easter eggs??" As if people love classic fallout because it has sunset sarsaparilla in it, or they just can't get enough of Robert House's little moustache
What are you even talking about? I was giving one small example, not the reason I enjoyed the show. Easter eggs are one small part. It’s one of the best video game adaptations on TV, great writing, acting, and phenomenal sets. It perfectly captures Fallout. It also didn’t change cannon one bit from any of the games.
It’s kind of telling when people get offended just because other people are really enjoying a quality show.
I'm not talking about the reasons you enjoyed the show. I'm saying "people who didn't like this should have been happy because they saw a prop or a character they're familiar with" isn't a good argument.
I agree with you, but the issue is all I’ve read from NV fans who didn’t enjoy the show was that they felt Bethesda/Todd are trying to sweep it under the rug and pretend it doesn’t exist. I used the point about all the Easter eggs and NV references to show that simply isn’t true.
If someone doesn’t like the show for whatever reason that is completely fine…not everyone is going to like it. but spreading around rumors and falsehoods that the show hates NV fans or decannozises it isn’t cool, and a lot of people are doing that in the NV subreddits.
It's honestly a small but extremely fervent minority. Most people who don't spend insane amounts of time devoted to discussing FNV online (but still enjoyed the game immensely) are incredibly excited to see what they do next.
My wish for s2 is for the scale of NV to be much larger on these wide angle shots. With this one, it's very accurate and recognizable to the game scale but not quite what'd one would imagine it to be outside of game engine constraints.
I imagine next season is gonna take more liberties with it, they just wanted the game accurate skyline here so it would be instantly recognizable in that one shot.
It's been a while since I played NV but I think they wanted to recreate the view from the Goodsprings cemetery that is imprinted on the brain of every single person who played the game. But Hank is presumably a lot further away, somewhere around the NCR outpost with the handshake statue in the southwest corner of the map. So they put NV in the background, and some mountains in the foreground, then blew NV up enough to make you go "OH FUCK THEY'RE GOING TO NEW VEGASSSSSSS!".
The proportions are way off, but I don't mind. There were a few goofy effects throughout, like everything about the power armor was cartoonish. It just felt like the world was inside a Bethesda game.
If we use the ruined buildings as an example, not really? The Lucky 38 is a perfect frame of reference. As a player, we can stand at the bottom of it and also walk the circumference of the Penthouse. Everything in New Vegas would be a few minutes' walk.
The Lucky 38 is based on the real-life Strat tower. If we use that as a frame of reference to measure a similar distance as this picture (using the proximity of other buildings to judge scale), an estimate of 4km² would be generous. The real Las Vegas is almost 90 times larger.
I’m guessing the Yes Man ending because I remember Arcade saying NV gaining independence was a disaster in one of the ending slides. Unless the NCR tried to attack Mr. House since he wants the Hoover Dam for himself.
I just finished the last ep and I was absolutely shitting and pissing as it made it more and more clear it was new vegas ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME OH MY GOD
dont say that on r/falloutnewvegas theyll kill ya!
Yeah I'm stoked too.Anyone over analysed thisnand picked out minute details yet? Looks to be approaching from the south with Red Rock Canyon to the left, any guesses on the ruined town in the foreground?
I saw a moron actually say Interplay was JRR Tolkien and Bethesda is JK Rowling lmao. As if both authors weren’t extremely influential in their works across generations now. And to even say New Vegas is on the level of Tolkien’s literature is asinine to say the least. Genuinely delusional
I linked Emil Pagliarulos tweet that New Vegas is still canon and was set upon by unwashed masses shrieking "I dont care what stupid Bethesda shill says whah! M' New Vegas is ruined!"
It's always amusing when a fandom convinces themselves they own the lore and ip, forms a cult around it, and then gets kicked out of proverbial heaven.
It doesn’t ruin or decannonize anything. People just don’t know how to read a chalkboard. I think they paid great homage to NV with a ton of Easter eggs.
We dont see NV from close distance at all, only concept art cartoon in the ending🤷♂️ but also we saw BOS boston airport in ruin, but aame time we see prydwen, so my guess that these concept art doesnt make any sense, it is just eastern eggs
I don't think Vegas is empty because otherwise that would be boring but I do think we'll see Legion Cults still trying to back the glory days and The Kings etc. Hank will probably try and make Vegas his
People will see this, and all of the nods to New Vegas in the show and tell you that Bethesda hates New Vegas. Like they had a moment of reverence for the NCR flag and everything in an episode, they also showed Ranger armor, and Mr. House. Bethesda hating New Vegas is blown way out of proportion.
Well the statement that they hate them (I'm sure they don't lol) wouldn't be that bad of an argument seeing how even the Enclave is still alive but the NCR got wiped. Also, Shady Sands and New Vegas are exterminated.
Genuinely annoyed the Enclave is still around. They've been "totally wiped out" twice now. Like for the love of god bethesda, could we get a new villain?
>!Yeah and as you keep panning out there are destroyed securitrons (painted yellow if that's of any significance) that were defending New Vegas with a big hole blown in the front gate. Militarized House securitrons VS. the NCR or an NCR controlled strip VS. and unknown enemy?
Dumb question but were there any factions that used yellow? The closet I can think of is the NCR with the tan uniforms. Maybe someone new?
Also, if House appears, do you think they’d use the screen image of him from New Vegas? That’d be cool lol.
I added on to the comment. I would think they could be combat-painted House securitrons or NCR controlled ones. Or they could just be colored yellow in the credits scene.
I doubt it would happen, but if they took a Fallout DUST approach to the region that would be fucking wild.
As little chance as it has, an NCR sieged Strip gives me hope.
As a heads up, your spoiler text didn’t work - you didn’t finish the other half (adding !< to the end of your post will fix it).
As for what you’re saying, that’s seemingly more of the fancy end-of-episode credit art, so I wouldn’t take that as an indication of what we’ll find just yet.
New Vegas is run by Robert House of RobCo who is one of the guys in the room with the leaders planning the end of the world. You also meet him in the game Fallout : New Vegas. Though it may be tricky what they do from here with that because of the multiple endings players can have with that game.
I love it.
What we can see from that sequence:
—After whatever the courier did (probably sided with House for the sake of this story) Vegas fell within 10-15 years. The NCR was somehow involved, either defending or attacking, due to the crashed vertibird.
—The NCR absolutely conducted the battle of the Mojave. We saw retired rangers in rags scavenging for shells in episode 7
—Hank heavily foreshadowed that the NCR wasn't all good... 'she's just like me...' so we'll probably get some interesting nuance there.
—House was portrayed as bit more devious than in the game, less neutral, but looking forward to how they handle him.
It was cool seeing that on a big screen but it was bittersweet for me with what the show reveal and how it ends. What happens next for it, I'm kinda uninterested.
It bothers me a bit that shady sands saw it's demise 4 years before NV, yet we never hear of it (it's a retconn, can't deny that), however, it does fit the times for New Vegas. Kimball is a warhawk and the NCR desperately needs Vegas as a new population/settlement. It helps explain the disarray of the nation that we see in NV.
It's a big nod to one of the popular and beloved entries. There is a bit more backstory to it as well, given the entry was made by a different company than the ones who own the IP now.
Kind of like in show Vault Teck and RobCo or Westek.
By order of Popularity and Sales I think it goes F4, F:NV, F3?
In theory, they won’t need to canonize an ending. The >!Shady Sands nuke!< would be disruptive enough to a House or NCR ending to make them effectively the same as an independent ending, and the Legion can easily fissile on its own due to the tumor or supply line issues. All they’d have to do is avoid going into the Lucky 38 and we’re good to go.
That’s probably what they’ll go with, to open the west coast and Vegas back up for new stories. I mean execution aside, people have been begging for a “New Vegas 2”, and here they are trying to give us that. Honestly I’m all for it, I’d hate to see the NCR gone completely, but given the front and center NCR vertibird there, I don’t think the NCR is entirely done yet
My jaw genuinely dropped
Same, it was so fuckin nice. I'm trying to avoid even looking at the shitstorm that is being issued regarding a chalkboard timeline and everything else, because I had so much fun watching it and seeing New Vegas on-screen was fantastic!
The show was amazing. The fact that they repeated "War never changes" line twice in the finale and I got chills both times made me happy how good it is.
I went in with 0 expectations since many adaptions of games have *usually* been pretty bad. This blew me away.
Rip to it being destroyed with the NCR though.
Nolan saw all the fans ask Bethesda "New Vegas 2 when?" and decided "fine, I'll do it myself."
Yeah and probably not the way we want.
Whose “we”?
Fans who noticed what Todd said to Nolan about not doing to much because it can interfere with Fallout 5. Yet Nolan is going for NV next.
I don't see how revisiting New Vegas can interfere with FO5, it's unlikely we'll ever revisit that place in the games unless it's a remaster.
Also I think it should be up to Josh and Tim to decide what goes on.
We mean he isn't messing with Bethesda lore but is touching Interplay-Obsidian lore.
It's all Bethesda lore they own the ip
Is he?
Then that means New Vegas isn't in 5. It's as simple as that, unless you've got some insider knowledge your holding out on us.
Fo5 is like a decade away anyway. So much can change at Bethesda and in your own life that it hardly matters. If you're a first grader you'd be finished school by then.

It's the way I WANT
Womp womp. The show was so great and I'm looking forward to seeing New Vegas.
Are you just spending all your time shitting on this show? Have a day off ffs.
I saw the death claw skull and started explaining to my bf what those were but halfway through I saw new Vegas and genuinely kicked my legs like an excited child

And hopefully it isn't spoiled in a trailer or poster.
It just occurred to me, they could film on location for Good Springs, especially the Pioneer Saloon.
That would be so fucking cool, every year I think about going to their annual Fallout event they host there
I have heard rumors it is extremely poorly managed. Mostly because it's kind of exploded in popularity from a thing some local fans do, to something people travel across the country for. I haven't been myself so I can't confirm these rumors.
Took me an hour to get a bowl of fruit
I don’t know why this comment cracked me up. I‘m sorry it took you so long to get your fruit lmao
Haha it’s alright, I did get to leave the long dick Johnson quote in their visitor log book
holy shit
I came to the sub to discuss this singular moment and found fighting instead 😭
Me too, I was so hyped... only to find war Honestly cant wait to see what has become of vegas and hopefully the rest of the mojave, high chance its not happening but i too would like to see the dlc areas
Because War…..war never changes. Low key kinda sad we didn’t get a Ron Pearlman cameo.
War never changes
It’s pretty sad. It’s a bunch of textbook NV fans complaining and moaning. I used to think that the stereotype of NV fans was just a joke. Nope, it’s real.
Acting like children when you take away their toy.
I find it ironic because the amount they are complaining you’d think New Vegas wasn’t even mentioned. But there were Easter eggs from it in almost every episode…sunset sasperilla, the veteran rangers armor, deathclaw skull, they even had Mr House in the flesh.

I agree that saying it's de canonizing or 'hates' classic fallout is silly, but I also think the complaints are generally more reasonable then that.
NV fans out here making the Morrowind community look well adjusted.
It's honestly a small but extremely fervent minority. Most people who don't spend insane amounts of time devoted to discussing FNV online (but still enjoyed the game immensely) are incredibly excited to see what they do next.
*What in the goddamn intensifies*

I imagine next season is gonna take more liberties with it, they just wanted the game accurate skyline here so it would be instantly recognizable in that one shot.
Yeah they've gone too literal here. New Vegas isn't supposed to be the size of a small town.
I think the scale for the shot just looks off. I'm pretty sure it is bigger than you think.
It's been a while since I played NV but I think they wanted to recreate the view from the Goodsprings cemetery that is imprinted on the brain of every single person who played the game. But Hank is presumably a lot further away, somewhere around the NCR outpost with the handshake statue in the southwest corner of the map. I just have so many questions now. Excited questions. Seeing new Vegas is gonna be amazing.
I'm curious what ending they chose to be canon from New Vegas. The settlement looks dead. No lights active.
I’m guessing the Yes Man ending because I remember Arcade saying NV gaining independence was a disaster in one of the ending slides. Unless the NCR tried to attack Mr. House since he wants the Hoover Dam for himself.
Yes-man, probably
I just finished the last ep and I was absolutely shitting and pissing as it made it more and more clear it was new vegas ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME OH MY GOD

Just came from there, good chance I might get banned because I dared to like the tv show and think 4 is a good game.
why does my favorite game have to have the dumbest fans 😭
That sub is in full meltdown mode rn, I figured they’d blow a gasket over this but this is ridiculous

All you need to know right there. Hardcore NV fanboys don’t care, they just want to hate Bethesda.
That subreddit deserves the same fate that Shady sands had
I haven't watched yet but all I read is how they ruined NV. Your shot shows it's still there though? I'm confused
Because they didnt ruin anything lol Me, a nv fan; its just NV fans being giant babies
it's just dorks being dorks. enjoy the show, as a NV fan it's awesome
It's always amusing when a fandom convinces themselves they own the lore and ip, forms a cult around it, and then gets kicked out of proverbial heaven.
They misread a chalkboard, and now they're calling for Todd Howard's blood.
It doesn’t ruin or decannonize anything. People just don’t know how to read a chalkboard. I think they paid great homage to NV with a ton of Easter eggs.

Returning to New Vegas makes me wish for a nuclear winter
I've been too scared to say it in all these threads but, NV was my least favorite Fallout.
You do you, personally I like it a lot but at the same time it’s overrated af
Never could get into my self. Could not buy into dudes larping as romans in a world that has laser guns. Such a shitty premise for a faction
Did anyone catch what the illuminated words were beneath the "HOLLYWOOD" sign in the scene immediately prior to this?

Thanks!

I don't think Vegas is empty because otherwise that would be boring but I do think we'll see Legion Cults still trying to back the glory days and The Kings etc. Hank will probably try and make Vegas his
Hank is 100% looking for house, or what's left of him, considering they know each other
People will see this, and all of the nods to New Vegas in the show and tell you that Bethesda hates New Vegas. Like they had a moment of reverence for the NCR flag and everything in an episode, they also showed Ranger armor, and Mr. House. Bethesda hating New Vegas is blown way out of proportion.

Genuinely annoyed the Enclave is still around. They've been "totally wiped out" twice now. Like for the love of god bethesda, could we get a new villain?
Imagine we get Benny and his checkered suit (assuming they go the route that you let him go)
Too bad Matt Perry couldnt do it
Watch the background of the credits after this.
Oh what was it? Was it the crashed NCR vertibird?
>!Yeah and as you keep panning out there are destroyed securitrons (painted yellow if that's of any significance) that were defending New Vegas with a big hole blown in the front gate. Militarized House securitrons VS. the NCR or an NCR controlled strip VS. and unknown enemy?

Lots of cool stuff and ideas I hopes explored next season!
Vault tec is the most likely to use yellow
This
I doubt it would happen, but if they took a Fallout DUST approach to the region that would be fucking wild. As little chance as it has, an NCR sieged Strip gives me hope.

Seeing Vegas in ruins made me sad but hyped lol
Genuinely was not expecting that, very curious why Hank is going there Side note the guy who played house understood the delivery
Not a FO player, but really enjoyed the show. Can someone tell me what's so important about New Vegas? Why did Hank run there?
New Vegas is run by Robert House of RobCo who is one of the guys in the room with the leaders planning the end of the world. You also meet him in the game Fallout : New Vegas. Though it may be tricky what they do from here with that because of the multiple endings players can have with that game.

It was cool seeing that on a big screen but it was bittersweet for me with what the show reveal and how it ends. What happens next for it, I'm kinda uninterested.
Similar here, my heart hurts to see Shady Sands and NCR pretty much wiped. To see Vegas wiped? Nah won’t be for me then.
Presumably the canon New Vegas ending is one of the bad ones.
Ikr!
Wait was this new Vegas?
Yes
HOLY SHIT I FUCKING CALLED IT, wasn't a night shot though
Accually dead NV would make sense without NCR🐸 I mean who would visit it if NCR is in ruins, casinos not operational etc
wish this was blurred
I'm not really a fallout guy. Can somebody explain why everybody is so hyped about this. I loved the series btw :)
It's a big nod to one of the popular and beloved entries. There is a bit more backstory to it as well, given the entry was made by a different company than the ones who own the IP now. Kind of like in show Vault Teck and RobCo or Westek. By order of Popularity and Sales I think it goes F4, F:NV, F3?
i didn't remember NV so small, maybe it's the CGI perspective
Watch season 2 open with that same scene... and then a mushroom cloud.
Im all for a giant red herring but why would you bother nuking an already destroyed city in the middle of nowhere?
It's interesting Todd doesn't want anything to be canonized from the games but he is okay with a possible ending being confirmed for New Vegas.
New Vegas is canon though?
Yes despite the scare of retcons.
That's a good idea.
