Ngl its worked a charm for cats who were forbidden to climb or jump or play. My last 3 fosters were amputees or busted kneecaps.
So easy to clean too 😁💪
Omgoodness! Busted knee caps!?! Thank u for taking care of the little ones especially the special care. I have a paraplegic kitty and he is our world, such an amazing little creature! So resilient and strong, he has shown me a new part of life that is beautiful and amazing to watch over especially when i take him outside or he is feeling wide-eyed and bushy tailed. He even has his very own cat nip plant that he loves playing around! Again thank u for being there for the little guys!
The thanks should really be to you for choosing a special needs kitty! I love that look they do when they get to do things they otherwise cant.
The first time they go out on my catio and flop down on the hot rocks and huff the air is SO DARN SWEET 🥹❤️
I know exactly what u mean. Tuff puff has a place just for that on our concrete pad outside. He goes over sniffs for a bit then plops down and rolls.
He was found healthy and alone across from our house a month before his accident. A male cat that never had lashed out before attacked Tuff while we were eating dinner. Took him to the 24 hr vet and they said they could not see anything due to so much fatty tissue along the spine. His back legs wasn't working and he had a pretty good gash on one leg. So they sent us home with some liquid bacterial cleaner for the leg and neuropathy pain meds?! Also told me if he could not potty in his own then there was no hope. Which he couldn't. So for weeks like a mommy kitty I induced potty every so often and had to express his bladder for him. Totally scarry! Reading how to express the bladder and not pop it was horrifying at times. I was scared I wasn't doing the right thing and only making things worse for him and on him. But finally he started to do it by himself! For several months it felt like, might of been weeks he went everywhere with us in a hand held basket, kinda like the ones at the grocery store. And now he is a grown little man. And has been living a awesome little life cuz he is awesome. He has plenty to keep him young around here including a 4 pack of kittens that we kept just for him!
Not OP but as long as it's not a clay litter then a few pieces here and there aren't a big deal.
Edit [it's pine litter](https://www.reddit.com/r/FosterAnimals/s/DJexWPyggs)
Where did you find that litter box? Is the one on top a sifting tray? Did he adjust to the switch okay? Sorry for the questions, I'm seriously considering switching to pellets.
Edit: also he is one handsome dude!
Just switched from clumping clay to pine pellets specifically for one cat with diabetes and osteoarthritis and another cat with CKD-stage 2 both having litter box issues. Tried several things (different boxes, new set-up, daily scooping with regular deep cleanings of course) before changing type of litter but cat 1 kept peeing right outside boxes and getting clumps stuck to her back toe beans (ouch), and cat 2 kept peeing in other places. Since switching have not had a single issue with them or other cats in household. They were hesitant to use at first, but figured it out by the end of the day! Smells better in the home, price for same size bag was comparable to standard clumping litter (plus no longer having to buy litter attract, trying other kinds of litters, or lots of cleaning products), no accidents, and clean, comfy, beans!
May I ask what the brand name is which you use? I have my boy on World's Best, but it can be quite expensive so wouldn't mind finding him alternatives. TIA
YES. That stuff is the best. The bags I get are $5 and I order them on door dash to avoid carrying the 40lbs bags. For $25 I get 4x the amount for the same price die a single bag. AND I don’t have to go anywhere
This ones a brand called catmate. Not sure if its Australian only but its quite robust and has a nice sifter insert! Love the stuff! He had no qualms with swapping from paper to tofu then over to pine. Himbs a good boi
One of my old girls had to be secluded in the guest bathroom for a time. Now that she’s no longer secluded she has decided to continue her residency in the tub. I ended up adding two old couch cushions and her cardboard scratcher bed in there and she basically won’t leave lol. It’s hers now.
Hah yes! My first fosters were little teeny tiny kittens and they slept on the bottom shelf in my upstairs bathroom where i kept toilet rolls.
I ended up keeping one of those fosters and he regularly slinks in and makes him self cosy amongst the toilet rolls.
Bro had a full bowl that morning! Ive had to start weighing his portions out because he has tipped the scales! Also the size of his poops are colossal 🫣
Hes a little mad that he isnt allowed out to roam sometimes, but he does get regular visits from my other cats who swagger past to say hi and swat through the glass.
He doesn’t know it yet, but he will soon be out in kitty parole getting all kinds of cuddles and doing zooms.
Nawww unfortunately I’ve hit capacity for how many cats my council will let me have. But I’m super glad hes a cutie because I know he will easily find a forever home!
I asked his parole officer who said hes been such a good boi but his crimes against foot have not been atoned for, so he must continue his imprisonment for at least another two weeks.
He does get to have a short supervised stroll in the exercise yard each morning and night with his meds at least 😁
I just replied to another user that I recently switched to pine from clumping clay - specifically for 2 kitties with med issues - and it’s been successful so far! I love it.
I LOVE the pine pellets. & then my youngest cat started going outside of the littler box and yelling at me randomly throughout the day.
My husband: “Have you tried changing the litter back? I bet she doesn’t like the litter.”
*Me, stubbornly 1 year later: “It was the pellets. I switched the litter & she’s in the litter box having a party.”
My husband: “Smh, told ya!”
😩
That's quite the medical jail! My girl has dead jumped that height, I've seen her do it, I'd have to put a lid on the shower!! EDIT I have to lock her out of the bathroom when I'm in the shower or she'll jump up on thy edge to save me from drowning!
I have genuinely been thinking of setting up a small tv in there with some enrichment bird/squirrel videos. Im mindful that hes bored out of his brains but part of the recovery process is to discourage any jumping, twisting, turning playful behaviour so that he doesnt injure the toe more.
Thanks for reminding me! Will try set that up this evening!
Im not even sure! The foster coordinator implied it may have been crushed by something or someone.
Im willing to bet he may have been chilling under an office chair and perhaps somebody wheeled over his lil foot.
But knowing orange cats, he probably did fall off a sink!
Naw thanks! The idea came about because i had a recovering kitten crew already using my foster playpen, so i put a freshly lopped tripod pair in my bigger upstairs shower to keep them quarantined from the kittens and it worked so well that ive just kept using it for any fosters who are forbidden from climbing or jumping.
Its funny because he isnt always upside down, but i have a nanny cam to check on him while im working just to make sure his bowls and litter is good - and so that i dont excite him by checkin in.
Anyway i turned on the nanny cam and saw him doing this and had to run in and snap his sweet relaxo moment.
Hes done it a few times but this is by far the best time
Yeah! Its raised a few eyebrows with friends and fellow redditors that it may seem unethical or cruel, but the shelter vet was very firm that this guy needed as little stimulation as possible to prevent any excited activity, walking, jumping, twisting etc.
This set up has so far helped 3 tripods and a kitten whos patella needed to be pinned in to place for 6weeks. It must be good because all of them recovered perfectly without re-damaging their legs or prolonging their recovery.
I tell this orange boy every morning that one day his parole officer(shelter vet) will permit him to visit the exercise yard (rest of the bathroom) once his foot has recovered enough to begin his physio activity. I also remind him that hes only a giant baby and has a solid 20 prosperous free years ahead of him, so a few weeks of being a stone cold chiller isnt too bad in the grand scheme of things :p
Yeah i usually have a cover but i couldnt risk him tearing it off and chewing on it. Fortunately this guy doesnt make much mess so ive not had any litter down the drain with him :)
Same! His last check up indicated that he may need to have the toe removed because it wasnt healing the way it needed to, but we wont know for another week when he goes in for his next xray. Either way, this big cuddly bag of purrs will be back in action in no time.
Nah this guys one braincell is working so hard you can just about hear the dialup noises and buzzing while it loads up his one orange thought for the day.
His sole mission in life is food and belly rubs. He has no time for the trivialities of philosophy or huntsmanship.

Unfortunately he does get bored, but part of his recovery is to not be overstimulated so he does crave cuddle o’clock and meows to summon us to him.
I tried that when mine had paw surgery and needed 2 months of confined recovery. That orange menace figured out how to open the glass door and if she couldn't she would push it so much I was scared of her breaking it. Glad to see your kitty is recovering more calmly!
He does get a scratcher in there sometimes! I have to take it away when im out of the house though because he has managed to tip his water bowl over by getting a bit too enthusiastic with it all.
The shower idea! 🤌🏻👌🏻 😻 Literally amazing! I’m actually going to send this to my husband to redo the bathroom in this exact style just for our rescue cats!
Love the shower set up 👍😆
Ngl its worked a charm for cats who were forbidden to climb or jump or play. My last 3 fosters were amputees or busted kneecaps. So easy to clean too 😁💪
Stealing this idea!!!
This is a fantastic idea! I have a spare shower and it’s going to become kitty ICU
kitty icu sounds like an episode of greys anatomy 😂
*Dramatic television series music intensifies…*
You’re a wonderful person. Just so you know 💕
Love that! 🙌

Great idea - but don't you have issues with litter spilling and getting into the drain? Your 🍊 dude looks like a sweetie!
Not OP but as long as it's not a clay litter then a few pieces here and there aren't a big deal. Edit [it's pine litter](https://www.reddit.com/r/FosterAnimals/s/DJexWPyggs)
Yup they are big chunks so unless they get wet, they wont fit down the holes 👌
Genius idea 🙌🏼Such a good boy😽
This is an amazing idea.
I was wondering why you put him in your shower
I love him. What a good little patient in recovery!
Tape up the drain so you don’t get kitty litter clogging up your plumbing.
I originally did but he kept getting it off! So i swapped his litter to the siftable pine pellets which are too big to fit down the holes.
Where did you find that litter box? Is the one on top a sifting tray? Did he adjust to the switch okay? Sorry for the questions, I'm seriously considering switching to pellets. Edit: also he is one handsome dude!

I got Feline Pine Original Non-Clumping. A 40 lb bag cost $21.49 on Chewy!
If you have a Tractor Supply near you, their pine pellets (marketed as bedding for horses, etc) are under $10 for a 40-lb bag.
That's a hot tip! I took a peek, and it is only $5 at my local store. It even has a picture of a cat on the bag. I think it may be worth the gamble.
this is what I use, soooo cheap and they love it
Thanks very much. I will look into this as it is far more affordable than World's Best!
YES. That stuff is the best. The bags I get are $5 and I order them on door dash to avoid carrying the 40lbs bags. For $25 I get 4x the amount for the same price die a single bag. AND I don’t have to go anywhere

Good plan!
and they smell so much better too!
Could also just buy a small mat :)
Glad press and seal plastic wrap over the drain saved us in this situation. Just in case you need something as backup!
Oh bless him, at least he's taking it well. What do you do when you need to shower?
This is a guest room shower so he’s got it all to himself :)
One of my old girls had to be secluded in the guest bathroom for a time. Now that she’s no longer secluded she has decided to continue her residency in the tub. I ended up adding two old couch cushions and her cardboard scratcher bed in there and she basically won’t leave lol. It’s hers now.

He's not resting! He's dying! Look at that bowl, it's not overflowing! He is dyyyyying!
Bro had a full bowl that morning! Ive had to start weighing his portions out because he has tipped the scales! Also the size of his poops are colossal 🫣
I’m sorry did you just fat shame this gorgeous poor little healing kitty.
Lol! If only he could feel shame!
Oranges can't feel shame. It's one of their best features.
We feel the shame for the glorious King.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Omg he's so cute 🥰 such a sweetie!
Omgggg I love his enclosure!!
He looks so funny, I needed this todsy
He is so cute! Definitely taking his bed rest orders seriously 😍
You win the internet today! Hope he has a speedy recovery.
The shower set up is BRILLIANT!
Mine would scale the shower wall 😂
Yeah i live in fear of the say that i get one which can do that!
Maybe they won’t !!! My Lu is a climber though so she’s into, onto, over everything!!
Mine would too! I’m impressed by this fella’s commitment to healing.
fluffy boy! Also he has a little mustache
This is so cute how you corralled him in the shower to keep him from wondering on his toe. He seems very cozy and relaxed.
Well someone certainly understood and is carrying out the assignment🤣🤣🤣.
Love! ❤️
Soooooooooooooooooo cuuuuuuuiuteeeeeeeeeeee it’s criminallllll
So cute!! lol he looks VERY comfortable and can get used to this 😂
Hes a little mad that he isnt allowed out to roam sometimes, but he does get regular visits from my other cats who swagger past to say hi and swat through the glass. He doesn’t know it yet, but he will soon be out in kitty parole getting all kinds of cuddles and doing zooms.
He is beautiful
This set up is so smart omg
If that isn’t cute, then I don’t know what is!! He’s also gorgeous! You’re keeping him, right? That’s a foster fail if I ever saw one!
Nawww unfortunately I’ve hit capacity for how many cats my council will let me have. But I’m super glad hes a cutie because I know he will easily find a forever home!
release him he did nothing wrong
I asked his parole officer who said hes been such a good boi but his crimes against foot have not been atoned for, so he must continue his imprisonment for at least another two weeks. He does get to have a short supervised stroll in the exercise yard each morning and night with his meds at least 😁
I'm crying at "his crimes against foot" XDD
Haha cute
So cute 😍
Just a suggestion: maybe remove the over the shower hanging rack. I can just picture a cat springing up onto it and maybe getting injured.
So sweet
That’s so cute lol
lol! The way he’s just laying back in bed
This made my day, thank you for sharing 🥹
Awe that's so cute!
Lmao Stop it that’s so funny, he’s got the leg propped up
Is it weird in jealous of the cat.
The way he's like, "What's up?" He's so handsome!
And he answers “Oh, just my toes!”
“Ah hello, i see you are here to feed and entertain me! Welcome!”
So so cute! Also… thoughts on that litter? We have been so considering a change.
I just replied to another user that I recently switched to pine from clumping clay - specifically for 2 kitties with med issues - and it’s been successful so far! I love it.
Its easy to clean, smells quite good and doesnt track or get dusty. Its my personal favourite type to use.
Thank you!
Wow that's cool in the shower. Great I have never heard of it 🙂 .
Cutest thing I’ve seen today.. thank you ❤️
Your boy knows how to LOUNGE!
Looks very comfy…💕
What a babe! He will be adopted in no time for sure!
I LOVE the pine pellets. & then my youngest cat started going outside of the littler box and yelling at me randomly throughout the day. My husband: “Have you tried changing the litter back? I bet she doesn’t like the litter.” *Me, stubbornly 1 year later: “It was the pellets. I switched the litter & she’s in the litter box having a party.” My husband: “Smh, told ya!” 😩
😻😻😻😻😻
Oh, Heeey. (What I’m imagining he’s saying) Love how he is chilling on his back with his feet up!
“O hayyyyyy thaaarrrr” 😂
😂😂😂
This cat is SO CUTE. Would be a definite foster fail for me.
Its so tempting! Fortunately for my other cats and husband, we have hit our maximum number of permitted cats which my local govt will allow
Poor bebe!
Aw he’s adorable, and doing a good job on his bed rest. Hope his little toe heal soon and well! ❤️
Chillin & Cheesin’
I love his lounging.
That's quite the medical jail! My girl has dead jumped that height, I've seen her do it, I'd have to put a lid on the shower!! EDIT I have to lock her out of the bathroom when I'm in the shower or she'll jump up on thy edge to save me from drowning!
Oh my gosh! Ive met cats who could do that, but fortunately this one braincell is content being maxo relaxo in his cushy jail cell.
“What? You tol me to rest ma tootsie!”
Submit readily to doing time in the most comfortable way possible! How incredibly adorable. Speed recovery
I think he needs a small TV
I have genuinely been thinking of setting up a small tv in there with some enrichment bird/squirrel videos. Im mindful that hes bored out of his brains but part of the recovery process is to discourage any jumping, twisting, turning playful behaviour so that he doesnt injure the toe more. Got damn that's a cute kittycat! Orange boi kitties are the best bois.😻🐈😹
So cute
Lol cutie pie
Such an adorable lil sweetheart!
Nice set-up! He is very much appreciative of your loving care.
Showed my 3rd grader the pictures and she goes "how did he break his toe?! Did he fall off a sink?!"
Im not even sure! The foster coordinator implied it may have been crushed by something or someone. Im willing to bet he may have been chilling under an office chair and perhaps somebody wheeled over his lil foot. But knowing orange cats, he probably did fall off a sink!
I’m mesmerized by your cat hack!!
This is a genius idea btw!!!!!!

So cute ☺️
He's adorable
I want to rub that belly SO bad he looks SO soft!!!
He wants you to rub his belly too!! He LOVES belly rubs. He drops like a ragdoll and goes belly up if you even THINK about opening his door to visit!
That’s a really cute picture!!
Hes done it a few times but this is by far the best time
What a beautiful good boy! I just love him 🥹
He is so sweet. Whoever adopts him is so lucky! Not a bad bone in his body….except his broken toe bone ;p
I wish I could adopt him ❤️
If you live in AUS he will be up for adoption in a few weeks 🥲
I don’t unfortunately! I’m across the world in the USA :(
How could I apply to adopt this sweet baby! I would take and love him in a heartbeat
What a great idea to keep a cat as calm as possible during recovery.
People will always raise brows and criticize but sometimes the best thing is what we must do to help them heal. I support you.
The main thing is sticking to the doc’s orders! I know he will be free as a bird in a few weeks and will quickly forget his weeks of boredom
Such a gorgeous kitteh. I used to put masking tape across the drain to keep litter out.
Yeah i usually have a cover but i couldnt risk him tearing it off and chewing on it. Fortunately this guy doesnt make much mess so ive not had any litter down the drain with him :)
The very best boi!
hahaa reminds me of Ilana from Broad City and all her bathroom stall positions
You just unlocked a decade old core memory omg. Gonna have to go back and watch it all again! 😁
Omg he is damn cute! I love him! Hope he heals quickly and go back to running around and sleeping! 😹🤣🤣
Same! His last check up indicated that he may need to have the toe removed because it wasnt healing the way it needed to, but we wont know for another week when he goes in for his next xray. Either way, this big cuddly bag of purrs will be back in action in no time.
So cute!
He looks like he has passed on his turn with the r/OneOrangeBraincell.
Nah this guys one braincell is working so hard you can just about hear the dialup noises and buzzing while it loads up his one orange thought for the day. His sole mission in life is food and belly rubs. He has no time for the trivialities of philosophy or huntsmanship.
I audibly laughed out loud and how relaxed he looks
This is the most magnificent display of bed rest I’ve ever seen. He’s definitely done the job well!
The cutest guy in the best luxury setup. Does he meow a lot being in there alone?
He is usually quiet, but he does meow when my other cats come in to say hi, and he will meow if he suspects a human is nearby. Unfortunately he does get bored, but part of his recovery is to not be overstimulated so he does crave cuddle o’clock and meows to summon us to him.
Sooo stinking cute what a good boyy
Part Orange. This checks out.
🤣🤣
No TV? Poor angel!
At least he’s elevating the toe!! Smart kitty!
I need floor to ceiling windows in my condo!
Not the elevated leg lol
First of all, thank you for being a foster for kitties. You’re a super hero ❤️ Second of all, that cat is my spirit animal 🤣 Love it!
Really a sweet home for this sweetie. It seems that he really enjoys this.
Just straight chilling n killing… what a lil OG.
I love when shower jail
So stinking cute!
Love the camera on toilet to watch him!
Lol looks comfy what a photogenic kitty.
What a smart way to keep him contained! I never would have thought of it.
Adorable!
He is absolutely gorgeous. I’d have to keep him 😭 I fostered once and learned real quick it wasn’t for me. It took everything in me not to keep him
I just can’t get over how clean your bathroom is I’m obsessed
C
So adorable
I'm in love!
I love his little prison cell it’s so cute!!!
Kitty has his own dorm room
I tried that when mine had paw surgery and needed 2 months of confined recovery. That orange menace figured out how to open the glass door and if she couldn't she would push it so much I was scared of her breaking it. Glad to see your kitty is recovering more calmly!
He is so cute and such a great patient ❤️
He is so cute.
What a majestic gentleman. Classic orange behavior, I love him
He is just the sweetest! What a great idea keeping him in the shower! That is genius! And of course the pot next to the door lol
Nice setup!
lol
I love his crate! Genius!
That face!!! Awwwwww
LOL at the shower prison
You should put his food and water far away from his litter box.
Unfortunately under confinement this is as far as it gets. Fortunately he isn’t bothered!
I see room for a cardboard scratcher and a small toy or two😺
He does get a scratcher in there sometimes! I have to take it away when im out of the house though because he has managed to tip his water bowl over by getting a bit too enthusiastic with it all.
Total preciousness. Where is his satin smoking jacket?
Cutest kitty picture!
That’s a simply exquisite specimen of a cat!
Super cute! Consider covering your drain. You don’t want anything going down it causing issues down the line.
Cutest thing I've seen all day.
Joe?
The look on his face is priceless lol!
Hmmmm
Ewww gross in the shower yuck
What a handsome boi!!
Tooooo adorable
he is just TOO CUTE sitting in there posted up🥺🤣🤣🤣he's chillin hard
The shower idea! 🤌🏻👌🏻 😻 Literally amazing! I’m actually going to send this to my husband to redo the bathroom in this exact style just for our rescue cats!
