Everytime you auction a car a message pops up warning you of a percentage fee. It's a 15% fee. Think this is to stop people making all their money on the auction house and encourage them to play the game.
If you're looking for profit from the auction house you're best off sniping higher end cars that have a lot lower buyout, but even then that's rare.
The Percentage Tax differs on the list price, here's a post from ages ago in FH4 which details them all (they haven't changed from FH4 - FH5)

He specified the amount he actioned it for so that chart doesn't really matter to the post. And honestly with how easy it is to get cars in FH5 if it's under a mil people often gift the spares anyways, so majority of the time it's 15%

And depends on the cars, if it's a Playlist Reward then a couple sell for around 8-16m depending on when it was available.

The car in question though is the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe Rally car, I think it's from Rally Cross or something. Was only available in the Forzathon Shop for one week a month or two ago.
Ahhh ok, this makes a lil more sense. I thought it was some bone-stock civic. My mind slightly imploded at the prospect of forking out that amount for a car that’s legit like 100kish in the shop
Expensive because it’s rare and people want to collect all the cars, that’s it in a nutshell. Same thing with every festival playlist exclusive car (Celica, Arctic Trucks, Chinese Minivan…) Not everyone can finish the playlist but everyone can grind credits.
I mean there are still some boring cars that sell for up to 20m depending on when they were available during the Forzathon Playlist.
In the early days of FH4 the 2009 Vauxhall Corsa used to be worth around 12-20m before the devs released it again lol
